Chapter 3

Author: Bright
Seeing that I was silent, Gina naturally presumed that I was cowed by Josh's name. She swiped the glass and documents on my desk, sending everything crashing down to the floor.

Then, sitting on my leather chair, she kicked her shoes off and placed her pudgy legs on the desk. "What are you looking at?! This place is my backyard—I can do whatever I want! Timmy can sleep here from now on, since he always takes naps in the afternoon, and it's noisy outside!"

I stared at the mess on the floor, holding back the impulse to throw her and her son out of the window.

Pointing at the cameras, I growled icily, "Dream on. You are already guilty of disturbing a workplace and vandalizing personal property. The cameras would have captured it. Should damages be found to cost above $500, it's a lawsuit. Now, leave, or I'm calling security."

Gina smacked my desk as he laughed. "Security?! Go on, call them up! Everyone here knows that Josh Liston is Timmy's uncle! They won't dare to touch us even if they show up!"

Giving me a once-over, she then flashed a sleazy, contemptible smile.

"Just look at those pretty cheeks," she said with a snort. "Which rich chick did you sleep with for this job? Word of advice: keep your mouth shut and don't act like you're actually working an honest job, and I might be nice enough to talk to Josh about giving you a promotion."

I laughed despite myself, but before I could speak, Gina suddenly straightened, her eyes fixed on the blueprint on my table.

I had spent three sleepless nights fixing it.

It was going to be our main piece to bid for a $300 million project which the company's future hinged upon… And Gina promptly snatched it and passed it to Timmy. "There, baby! With this, let's see who still dares to accuse you of slacking off!"

Timmy took it, pointing at the lines and letters on it while exclaiming, "Yay! You're the best, Mommy! I'll draw Peppa Pig on this!"

My face dropped, and I bellowed, "Put it down! You have no business touching it!"

Timmy flinched for a second, but he soon yelled back, "Bad man! You yelled at me! I'll touch it even more!"

He then pulled hard, tearing a slit at the edge of the blueprint right then!

I rushed up to take it back when Gina, a mound of flesh, crashed into me.

"Are you trying to hit my son?! How dare you!" she shrieked as she shielded Timmy, not even bothered to think about what she was saying. "It's just a stupid piece of paper! How much is it worth?! Get your hands off right now! Unlike you, my baby's creative prowess is priceless! Heck, I'll pay you ten bucks for it!"

When Timmy saw me reaching for it, he hid the blueprint behind him while shrieking, "I want it! Give it to me, or I'll tell Uncle Josh! Uncle Josh will fire you!"

I withheld the rage inside me, my glare ice-cold as I growled, "That blueprint is the draft for the $300 million project in the afternoon. You can't afford it!"

Six months later, I visited the prison during a routine company charity event.Down the hallway, I bumped into Gina and Timmy, both shaven bald and wearing striped prisoner jumpsuits. In under a year, all of Gina's hair had turned white, and she looked like she had aged over ten years.Timmy wasn't hollering like an overgrown baby. His face covered in snot and tears, he flinched as soon as he saw me like I was a monster. On the other hand, Gina was gritting her teeth and glaring at me so hard that her eyes could bleed.Ultimately, all she could do was yell in impotent rage, "Carl Ludwig! You destroyed our entire family! How do you even sleep at night?"I looked at their miserable selves like they were just ants, completely unaffected. People like them would never admit their mistakes.Stopping, I took off my shades as I looked into Gina's eyes and chuckled. "How, you ask? Heck, I sleep soundly every night because there are no pests like you leeching off my company. Just so you

Six months later, Josh's corruption, corporate espionage, and sabotage were taken to the Jax Coast High Court. While I sat at the audience bench, the trio who were so pompous before were huddled at the dock, their shoulders slumped. The sentencing was naturally grim.Josh was sentenced to fifteen years in prison and seizure of all assets for embezzlement and bribery amounting over thirty million dollars, with all sentences to be served concurrently.Gina too was sentenced to eight years in prison for intentional sabotage of sensitive corporate property worth 300 million dollars, instigating civil disturbance, and resisting arrest. Naturally, she was also made to pay a fine she couldn't hope to repay over her lifetime.Timmy, despite the solemnity of the courtroom, refused to drop his act."Mr. Judge!" he cried shrilly, kicking his feet in front of the menacing judge. "I'm only three years old! I don't know anything! I want to go home! I want my cookies! Send Mommy to prison! Bad

The office was abruptly dead silent after the patrol cars left, as everyone was afraid to make a sound now that the heir to the entire company just bared his fangs.I was looking at the employees and supervisors standing at the hallway in turn, quickly finding the two burly men who had grabbed me earlier and the supervisors who had conspired with Josh while doing nothing to intervene."There's a new sheriff in town," I said, stern and determined. "Those who touched me just now, legally, will be charged as accomplices and accessories to deliberate assault."As for anyone else who has conspired with Josh Liston and didn't come to my defense just now, your contract is hence terminated with immediate effect. The legal department will also be looking into your records for corruption and suing should there be any."Even if it was just a branch office, the time for change had come. The employees who had long suffered the abuse of Josh and his cronies were naturally thrilled, as their tox

I simply laughed at Gina's outburst. They really had the IQ of pigs—everything that happened today was within my calculations, and they were tumors that I removed in passing. The police commander watched as Timmy stayed on the ground and kept kicking his feet, snapping coolly, "He's suspected of major corporate sabotage! Take him away!"Timmy panicked as he saw the officers taking out the glowing silver handcuffs, no longer keeping up the heart attack act as he rolled around and screamed, "No! I don't wanna! I don't want the dark room! There are no cartoons!"Then, realizing the tantrum was getting him nowhere, everyone gaped as he stood up, hid behind the officers, and pointed at his own mother."Bad Mommy!" he hollered. "It was her, officers! She tore the blueprint! She told me to draw Peppa Pig! I'm only 300 months old. I don't know anything! I have no money! Take her to jail!"Then, as if that was not convincing, he rushed up and kicked Gina's hefty thigh. "Bad Mommy! Go to j

Gina instantly understood what Timmy was doing, and her dull gaze suddenly lit with hope as she rushed over, cradling Timmy in his arms as he cried, "Murder! These greedy corporate types drove a disabled child over the brink! "My son was born with a heart condition, and he can't take any stress! If he dies, you are all going to die with him!"Josh, who was limp not a second ago, promptly pounced on the opportunity in desperation too."Mr. Ludwig!" He rubbed his hands eagerly, intent on coercing us into a compromise. "We're talking about human life here! If he dies, the company's reputation will end up in the dirt… So why don't we settle this out of court? I'll return all your money—just let me be free!"Father frowned ever so slightly. He was a shrewd businessman and knew that a disabled person ending up dead would end up really troublesome.Hence, a stalemate ensued. As for me, I was watching Timmy, who was supposed to be dying but peeking at me, and chuckled in disdain.Playi

The crowd parted down the middle as my father, the board chair of Ludwig Corp, strode in, looking regal in his form-fitting suit. His glare was cold, and his mere presence quickly silenced the room.A dozen black clad men, either from the legal team or bodyguards, were behind him, stern-faced as they entered. My father then saw the glass shards all over the floor, along with the bloodstains on my head, hand, and knees.Despite his reputation as a ruthless businessman and board chair who inspired fear, his eyes were red with tears as he pushed Josh out of the way and rushed to me.His hands were extended, but he was afraid to touch me as he asked in a quivering voice, "Are you hurt, son? How bad is it?"Silence ensued again, and the rubberneckers soon gasped out loud, their jaws almost dropping.Someone blurted out loud in disbelief, "S-Son?""Mr. Ludwig… is the board chair's son? The one who's never made a public appearance?"On the other hand, Josh's brain was fried when he h
