Synopsis

Reborn

Feel-Good Story

Bias

Male POV

Face Slapping

After the SAT scores were released, Sean White threw a lavish graduation party. He was the most popular guy at school and had been on financial aid. That night, I got a text saying my credit card had been maxed out. I went to confront Sean. Instead, I found him standing next to my girlfriend, Janine Slater, looking like he was about to cry. "Just because I'm on financial aid, does that mean I can't hold a graduation party?" he asked. Janine rushed to comfort him, then turned on me. "Your family has plenty of money. Spending a little on Sean isn't going to hurt you," she said. Sure, my family was wealthy, but that didn't make me a charity case. Why should I pay for him? I refused to back down and called the police to get my money back. However, Janine retaliated by sabotaging my family's company, pushing it to the brink of bankruptcy. While I was on my way to meet with investors, Janine and Sean plotted together and ran me over. When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day of Sean's graduation party.

Chapter 1
"Yes, please freeze all transactions on this card," I said. The first thing I did after opening my eyes was call my bank. As soon as I froze the credit card Sean White had taken, I could finally breathe easier.I looked around the room, lost in thought.Just then, my phone rang. Sean's name flashed across the screen. The memories of how my previous life ended kept replaying in my head.I scoffed and answered the call."Hello? Jensen, is that you?"Hearing Sean's voice again made my blood boil."Is there something you need?" I asked. He clearly wasn't expecting such an icy response from me. After all, my family had supported Sean through financial aid for years, and I had always treated him like a brother. He quickly recovered. His voice was warm and a little too eager to please."I do! I'm having my graduation party at Lawson Hotel tonight. Will you come?" Sean asked. "It's the biggest celebration I've ever had. Please, you have to show up."Janine will be there too. It's b

Chapter 2
Janine stormed forward and raised her hand to slap me.I stepped aside and grabbed her wrist."Janine, you've gotten pretty bold, haven't you?" I asked. "Do you know what would happen if you laid a finger on me today?"The consequences aren't something a second daughter of the Slater family like you could handle."Janine's expression shifted, and a hint of embarrassment flashed across her face. "How dare you?"In the past, I was attracted to Janine's looks, and I also liked that she never backed down. When we were together, I always gave in to her and tried to please her.I had never put her on the spot like this before, and she clearly wasn't taking it well.Yet there was nothing she could do. She couldn't lash out at me right now. After all, her family's company still depended on mine, so she couldn't afford to fall out with me.Her face flushed with anger as she yanked her hand free."Watch what you say, Jensen!" she hissed.I looked at her in surprise. "What did I say t

Sean knew I was intentionally putting him on the spot.Since it was my card anyway, he only thought about it for a moment before nodding."Of course, it's no trouble at all," he said. There were more than 50 classmates at the graduation party, and the total cost came to over 4 million dollars. Everyone knew that amount was nothing to me, but no one expected Sean to have earned that amount in such a short time. Some people could work their whole lives and still never make a million dollars. So even though I was the one who offered to buy everyone cars, the rest of the party became all about Sean. One classmate after another came over to toast him, showering him with praise and questions."Sean, how much did you actually make working at Janine's company?""My goodness, you're dropping 4 million dollars just like that? You've really moved up in the world, haven't you?""You've gotten this far right after the SATs? You won't have to worry about money for the rest of your life!"

Chapter 4
The graduation party was coming to an end, and our classmates gathered in small groups. Some were already looking up car prices on their phones, while others were calling their families with the good news. The whole ballroom felt like Christmas had come early.Smiling, Sean was surrounded by classmates as he walked to the front desk to pay the bill."Don't rush off, everyone," Sean said. "The night's not over yet. Let's go do some karaoke."Janine even took his coat for him like it was the most natural thing in the world. The two of them walked side by side at the front, and anyone would have thought they were a perfect match.I had eaten enough, so I stood up and followed.Just then, Janine stopped and turned around. Her gaze passed through the crowd before settling on me in the corner."Jensen, are you done eating too?"Janine was smiling. Her voice was soft, but loud enough for everyone nearby to hear. The crowd stopped and turned around.A sense of unease came over me.

Chapter 5
"What did you say?" For a moment, Sean thought he had heard wrong.Terence spoke firmly. "Your card has been frozen. The payment won't go through."The entire room fell silent. Everyone was still reeling from the shock of Sean's card being frozen.Just then, the hotel doors suddenly opened. Two uniformed police officers walked in and headed straight toward Sean at the front desk. The officer in charge showed his badge, his voice firm and cold. "Mr. White, someone has reported you for suspected fraud and unauthorized use of another person's assets," he said. "Please come with us and assist with the investigation."Sean went pale and immediately turned to me. "Jensen, you…"I walked up to him and slapped him."Sean, how dare you use my card to treat everyone?" I asked. "I might be rich, but I'm not dumb!"Did you really think you could spend it without me finding out? You've got to be kidding me!"He held his cheek, staring at me in shock. "So you blocked the card?""Obviousl

Chapter 6
Terence handed the bill to Janine. The total was 100,000 dollars. Her hand trembled as she took the bill. She knew she didn't have that much money in her accounts. The Slaters gave her at most about 20,000 dollars a month as an allowance, and she had already spent most of it over the years on Sean. How was she supposed to pay the 100,000-dollar bill?"Ms. Slater?" Terence urged.Janine reluctantly pulled out several cards. Even after trying to split the charge between them, she still couldn't cover the cost. The classmates around her started whispering. Her ears turned red as she gritted her teeth and stepped aside to make a call. However, the people she usually hung around with were clearly no better.I had already made it known that I was going after Janine. Who would dare step in and help her now?Her hand shook as she held her phone. She called her father next. "Dad, transfer me 100,000 dollars first. Don't tell Mom! I really need the money now."On the other end of the p

After seeing that scene at Janine's place, I quickly drove home. I told the butler to let me know immediately if anyone from the Slater family came. The next morning, the butler told me the Slaters had arrived.I opened the front door. Sharon's face was pale, Winona showed no emotion, and two bodyguards were holding Janine down on the ground.Janine's left eye was swollen shut, and the corner of her mouth was split open. Her clothes were covered in dirt too.She looked completely broken.Sharon nodded respectfully. "Mr. Lancaster, I brought this disgrace here. You can deal with her however you want."Janine looked up at me and glared. Her lips trembled as she spoke. "Jensen, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me just this once.""When you teamed up with six companies to bring down my family, did you ever think about the consequences?" I asked."That was Sean's idea!" she quickly said.I laughed. Cheaters were all the same. One moment, they treated you like their whole world

Sean's trial began soon after. When he was led to the defendant's seat, he looked completely out of it.He was nothing like the most popular guy at school he had once been. After the judge read the charges, Sean's lawyer actually claimed that I had willingly given Sean the credit card, so it didn't count as theft.I guess there was no limit to how ridiculous people could be.I immediately stood up to object. "Your Honor, Sean White claims I gave him the card. Then I have one question for him. When exactly did I give it to him?"Sean quickly answered, "You said I could use your credit card whenever I wanted!"I looked at the judge. "Your Honor, Sean has been receiving financial aid from the Lancaster family since his freshman year of high school."Over the years, I saw that he was struggling financially, so I did allow him to occasionally use this credit card for basic necessities."I made him tell me every time he used my card."I stared directly at Sean and continued, "After

Chapter 9
Janine disappeared for a while.I didn't look for her or have anyone keep tabs on her. After all, a piece of trash who had been kicked out of the Slater family wasn't worth my time.Yet, there were always people who liked to stir things up. After learning what happened between us, they kept coming to me and telling me how badly Janine was doing. They were hoping that if they made me happy, I might give them a chance to work with me.I was more than happy to let them try.Anyone would feel good seeing a cheating ex-girlfriend fall this far. That night, I left the company and went to the underground parking garage to get my car. It was quiet, with only the sound of my dress shoes hitting the ground.Suddenly, I heard another set of footsteps following behind me.I spun around and saw a figure I knew well.Janine was standing about ten feet away.I almost didn't recognize her. She had become extremely thin. A filthy gray coat hung loosely on her, the worn-out cuffs fraying at

Suddenly, I heard a loud crash, but I wasn't hurt at all.It was Janine. She has suddenly lost control of the car.The car had swerved violently and headed straight toward a support pillar.Janine desperately turned the steering wheel. The tires screeched across the concrete, a terrible sound that filled the parking garage. But she was going too fast and couldn't turn in time."Help!" she screamed, but there was no one who could save her.The front of the car slammed into the pillar, crushing half of the front end.Shards of glass from the shattered windshield scattered across the ground. The airbags deployed, covering Janine's face.I sat inside my car, my whole body shaking.Suddenly, my phone rang. My assistant, Cassie Lane, sounded anxious. "Mr. Lancaster, security said there was an accident in the parking garage. Are you okay?""Call an ambulance," I replied. Then I hung up and slowly got out of my car to look.Janine was slumped in the driver's seat, and the airbags
