Chapter 4

Author: Moore
I said considerately, "If there's really something urgent, you don't have to keep watching over me. I'm feeling much better now."

Vincent hung up the phone and gritted his teeth. "It's nothing. I promised to stay with you for a week and it's only been three days. Nothing is more important than my mate and pup!"

Yet as soon as he finished speaking, the phone rang again like a death knell.

I smiled. "Answer it. Maybe it's something very important."

Vincent sighed and quickly picked up the phone. "I'll be quick. Just give me five minutes."

The moment the call connected, I faintly heard a woman crying on the other end.

Vincent spoke softly to comfort the caller, his tone gentle and indulgent. "Alright, I understand. I'll be right there. Wait for me."

After hanging up, Vincent said to me apologetically, "Nina, the patrol team has something very important for me to handle. I have to go right away. It’ll be at most one hour, and I'll come back as soon as I'm done."

I looked into his eyes and nodded gently. "Go ahead. I'll wait for you."

Vincent practically ran out of the villa. After he left, I leisurely opened Serena's Instagram page. Sure enough, there was already an update.

In the new photo, the girl was holding a small suitcase, making a victory V sign with her little hand in front of the camera. The caption read: "After four days of waiting, he finally came back to me. My love said he's taking me on vacation to the northern grasslands!"

That was how I knew Vincent would not be coming back for the next few days. So when Vincent called to apologetically say he would be busy for several days, I was not surprised at all.

"Sorry, Nina. When I come back, I'll make it up to you double, I swear! And for our pup too. I'll prepare an even more lavish birth gift."

Although I was prepared, my heart still felt heavy.

Vincent, you would never have the chance to make it up anymore. I had wanted to spend one last week with you before leaving, to part on good terms, but it seemed unnecessary now.

In four days, I would permanently leave the pack and never come back. I wondered if he would regret today's choice when I was gone.

During the days Vincent was away, I packed up everything in the villa that I did not want to keep. There were eight large boxes in total.

The auction house I had scheduled also came by car on the last day.

"These and that pile over there, sell them all. Give me an estimate."

I sold everything, keeping nothing. Standing once more in this home where I had lived for five years, I felt completely disconnected from it.

I had cleaned the house thoroughly, leaving no trace of myself behind. Carrying my suitcase, I took a cab directly to the airport.

As soon as I got out of the car, I received Vincent's call. "Nina, I'm back! I'm coming home to pick you up and take you out for a nice dinner!"

I said nothing, just quietly watched the airport exit. He was indeed back, with Serena by his side. The two of them walked out of the airport intimately, pushing their luggage side by side.

Vincent pushed a luggage cart with two suitcases on it, one blue and one pink, obviously a couple's set.

I smiled and replied, "Sounds great! Are you done with work?"

"All done. From now on, I'll stay with you until the pup is born. I can't wait for the pup’s arrival! By the way, can I open the gift you gave me today? An anniversary gift must be something very meaningful, right?"

I pushed my luggage toward the boarding gate while answering, "Yes, it's very meaningful. You'll understand when you see it."

"Good, then wait for me. I'll be home in about two hours. I've missed you and the pup so much!"

In two hours, my plane should already be flying out of Shadow pack’s territory.

"Alright."

"See you soon. Love you, Nina."

It should be goodbye forever, Vincent.

I hung up, blocked Vincent from all forms of contact, and resolutely walked toward the boarding gate with my luggage.

After leaving the Shadow pack, I flew directly to the northern forest.I built a small cabin on the edge of the forest, and this became my new home. The scenery here was beautiful and my life was simple but pleasant. Every day, I set up my easel by the window, painting the beautiful snowy landscape while sipping milk or tea.I peacefully prepared for my pupbirth here. Although winter life was quiet, this pack had simple, honest folk, and the neighbors were all very excited about my pup's arrival. They often came to visit, bringing homemade cookies, fresh fruit they had grown, or fruit tea they had brewed.Today, my neighbor, Julie Hanson, came over with freshly baked cookies."Hey, Nina, is the pup being good today? You look great. Come try my new cookies. I added fresh mint leaves!"I invited her inside and poured her a steaming cup of milk. She asked carefully about my pregnancy, and when she learned I would give birth in two months, she nervously asked if I had reserved a ho

However, later, I stopped posting photos and sharing my life. Vincent greedily scrolled through my page, trying to find more traces of me.Then he clicked on my last text post, posted late last night with the brief words: "This is the end."I had not left any hints in the post, but he knew this message was meant for him. As I put a period to that sentence, I had also completely severed our years of relationship. What exactly had I discovered?Vincent desperately scrolled through all the posts until he found an account I was following.Clicking on the account I followed, Vincent's eyes immediately widened. It was Serena's Instagram account! On her account, Serena used sweet language and intimate photos to document their time together.Serena had over a thousand followers who loved her romantic daily posts and even envied their love.Vincent's expression turned ugly.He did not know that everything he had done looked completely different through Serena's eyes. A call from an unknown number came to Vincent's phone, breaking the awkwardness of the situation.Vincent quickly answered, hoping that it was me calling him. However, he was promptly disappointed. It was actually a staff member from City Hall."Alpha Vincent, your mate submitted an application to dissolve your mate bond. She asked us to deliver the agreement to you. Would it be convenient for you to come sign it?"Vincent's expression immediately turned ugly. "Where's Nina? Where is she? I'm coming right now. Please make sure you keep her there!"He hastily hung up and rushed to his car without explaining to the police, speeding toward City Hall.Even though he ran countless red lights and was cursed at by numerous pedestrians, he did not care at all.Bursting into City Hall, Vincent looked around but did not see me anywhere. "Where's Nina? She still won't see me? Please ask her to come out. I need to talk to her."The City Hall staff member shook his head. "Sorry, I can't do t

Vincent froze. He quickly noticed a lone letter on the table with my final words to him: "I know about you and Serena. I'm leaving. Please don't look for me."I had not even signed it, leaving his world so abruptly. Vincent's face filled with panic as he tried calling me again, but obviously it still would not go through. He paced back and forth in the room, panic and helplessness consuming his heart. He could not find me. Apart from my phone, he seemed to have no way to reach me.Vincent desperately called Elias. "Help me trace Nina's whereabouts! You must find out where she went!"After thinking, he added, "Also, check all of Nina's social media accounts!"Vincent suddenly realized that he knew too little about me. None of my relatives were in the Shadow pack, and he knew nothing about any close friends I might have had, he had no idea where I could go after leaving him. There was also the pup! Vincent's heart felt gripped by an invisible force and he suddenly could not breathe

Vincent hung up the phone, still smiling slightly. However, Serena's mood was rather poor. She began sulking. "Going home alone is so lonely. Would you mind taking me home first?"Vincent hesitated, wanting to refuse. "I promised Nina I'd be home in two hours. If I take you home first, I won't have enough time."Serena shook his arm, wheedling. "Traffic jams aren't that unexpected. You can always find an excuse. You'll have plenty of time to spend with her later, but I can only have you for a short while!"Vincent eventually gave in. He took Serena home and thoughtfully prepared a lavish meal for her.Only after cooking did he remember to call me. However, my phone was already turned off, and Vincent felt uneasy because I had never turned off my phone before.Serena happened to walk out carrying dishes and utensils. Seeing his concern, she comforted him. "Don't panic. Maybe her phone just died. Come eat with me first."Vincent frowned and firmly refused her. "I said no! I've alre
