Chapter 5

Author: Amy
When Yvette opened her eyes, she heard loud arguing outside the door.

“Yvette’s my sister! You watched her grow up! There’s no way she’d push someone into the water! You almost drowned her on purpose! Shouldn’t you apologize to her?”

“Apologize? Fine! But first, make her apologize to Sophia. If she hadn’t acted out of jealousy and hurt Sophia, would I have done anything? You care about your sister, and I care about my wife. If anything happened to Sophia, and even if Yvette died a hundred times, it wouldn’t make up for it!”

Henry’s angry words sent a chill through Yvette. It felt like she had fallen into ice.

He had rejected her many times before, but she had never felt this hopeless.

She thought that even if they could not be together, they would still share a small bond after all these years.

It turned out that once it involved the woman he loved, she meant nothing.

The two people outside did not know she was awake. They kept arguing.

“You have no proof, yet you blame Yvette for everything! You didn’t even give her a chance to explain. Just because she has liked you for years doesn’t give you the right to hurt her!”

“She has bothered me for years. I only spared her a little dignity because of you. Haven’t I been careful enough all this time? You complain that I hurt her feelings. Have you ever thought about how long I had to endure her?”

The anger Yarden had been holding back finally exploded.

He could not take it anymore. He grabbed Henry by the collar and swung his fist.

Henry did not hold back either. They fought fiercely.

The noise shocked Yvette. She forced herself to stand and rushed out to stop them.

She saw their bruised faces and the force behind their punches. She threw herself between them.

The tears she had been holding back poured down her face. She cried out until her voice broke.

“Stop fighting! Please, stop! Yarden, come with me. I’m begging you!”

Seeing her tears, Yarden regained his control.

His nose stung. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and let go.

He took Yvette’s hand. They walked back to the hospital room. He looked deflated.

The moment the door closed, the siblings heard Henry’s cold voice.

“Don’t you think I’ll forgive you just because you act pitiful! This is my final warning. Stay away from Sophia.”

Yarden’s anger, which he had just reined in, began to flare again. Yvette hugged him tightly.

She said pleadingly, “Yarden, stop! I’m about to leave. I’ll never appear in Henry’s world again. You don’t need to make things tense with him or your friends because of me.”

The more she tried to calm him, the more he worried about her.

They were silent for a long moment before he finally spoke in a low voice.

“Yvette, this is my fault! Henry’s heart belongs only to Sophia. He even gave up his friends for her. I should have told you the truth the first time I realized you liked him. You wouldn’t have gotten so deeply involved.”

On the final day of Fashion Week, Yvette’s Broken Butterfly Wings collection closed the show.Models walked down the runway. They wore her designs and followed the rhythm of the music.Black sheer fabric looked like shattered butterfly wings. Crystals and pearls sparkled softly under the lights. The deliberate asymmetrical cuts and the broken-but-rebuilt lines told a story of pain and rebirth.Backstage, Yvette bit her lip nervously. She stared at the audience and watched their reactions.Jett stood beside her. He tapped her hand lightly and then held it gently.“Look.” He pointed to the end of the runway. “That is your work. This is your story.”When the final dress appeared, the audience fell silent. It was a pure white wedding gown. Countless butterflies were embroidered on the skirt. At the hem, the butterflies became more complete. At the chest, a golden butterfly spread its wings, ready to fly.“That’s…” Jett’s hand froze.“Cocoon,” Yvette said softly. “Pauline found me

Henry stood on Fifth Avenue in New Yorke. Tiny snowflakes landed on his shoulders and melted almost immediately. He looked up at the giant Fashion Week poster a short distance away. Yvette’s name was written clearly.Back home, nothing had been resolved. Henry faced questions from his parents, pressure from the board, betrayal from the person he loved, and the ridicule of his rivals.Henry had faced more cold stares and indifference than ever before. He sold a part of his property, handed the company over to professional managers, and left all his troubles behind. He had come to New Yorke alone. But things were not going as he had hoped.“Sir, you need an invitation to enter the show.”The security guard blocked his way.Henry’s fingers trembled. He had no invitation. He wanted to say that he knew Yvette and had come to see her, but when he opened his mouth, the words were stuck in his throat.Who was he? “Do you know why I chose the butterfly?” Yvette asked suddenly.Jett put down the sketch in his hand. His eyes landed on the tattoo behind her ear. “Only after experiencing the pain of breaking out of the cocoon can a butterfly spread its wings and fly. Am I right?”Yvette’s hand holding the pen shook slightly.Eight years of love had ended in nothing but a joke. She had once thought she would be trapped forever in that dark, rainy night. She had thought she would remain stuck in the moment Henry chose to save Sophia and abandon her.“If you need me,” Jett said, “next week is Fashion Week. If your collection needs some inspiration from architectural elements, I can give you some advice.”He did not expect her to reply. He did not even look at her.He sat quietly and left the decision entirely to her.Yvette’s eyes flickered. His voice was soft and gentle, yet it felt like a key opening the door to her tightly shut heart. He stayed at the doorway and patiently waited for her to

Winter came fast and harsh in New Yorke. She let out a soft breath. A small patch of mist appeared on the glass window. She moved her finger across it and drew lines without thinking. The table beside her was piled with sketches. The mist slowly disappeared. She turned back to the design and stared at the broken butterfly on the page. She spun the charcoal between her fingers and pressed it down to draw a long, sharp crack across the wing.“Yvette, your ‘Broken Butterfly Wings’ collection has been fully pre-ordered by Chanel!”Her mentor, hair messy from the cold wind and holding a bottle of champagne, stepped into the studio. She froze when she saw the crumpled sketches all over the floor.“Sweetheart, this is something to celebrate. You should be standing under the spotlight or at a lively party. You shouldn’t lock yourself in here like a snail.”Pauline Jacob put down the champagne and carefully stepped over the piles of paper.Yvette did not seem to hear her. She bent to pic
