Chapter 33: Something

I waited a while for the feeling to subside, only turning over when I was sure my breathing had calmed.

It was already bright outside, but I was in no rush to get up. Thankfully, I didn't need to. Melissa wouldn't be in the office until later that afternoon unless something came up that required her attention.

I got up from the bed, gently massaging my temple as I walked to the living room.

I walked in on Falcon and Theron spreading some papers across the ground. Falcon didn't seem like a thre

"Wait what? How is that possible?" I exclaimed."I am not sure I even want to know, it creeped me out so much so that u immediately hung up and thought of running away." He replied, his hands trembling."Why didn't you?" I asked, massaging his hands."Because I knew if they could find me, they could definitely find my sister. And I would rather it not get to the point where she would be used as leverage to blackmail me." He replied."What did Brian have today about it?" I asked, not seeing how his best friend could have agreed to that easily."He has his disagreements, but I had to do it." He sighed."And I'm guessing your sister had no idea about this." I chuckled."Same way she doesn't know about me being hospitalised or my well-documented criminal record." He replied."You don't exactly look the part of a criminal, well when you aren't dressed in leather with ruffled hair." I shrugged."What, you don't like a bad boy?" He smirked."I like _this_ bad boy." I smirked back.He coughed

"If it's about those, Jason's the one you want." I stated, my eyes sweeping over the papers spread across the floor."No, it's-""You guys can always use the bedroom if you need some privacy." Falcon drawled. With everything going through my head, this lady wasn't being helpful in the slightest."Can you give us a minute?" Theron asked, looking at no one in particular."Sure." I replied, letting go of his hand."Not you." He said, holding me by the shoulder."Nice to see you finally doing something for yourself." Falcon chuckled to Theron as she got up from the floor. She flashed me a wink as she walked past us and towards the bedroom."You keep the weirdest company." I chuckled."Come sit with me." He said, gently leading me to the blankets. The papers took up so much space that I wondered if they were all truly about Theron. He moved some to make space for us to sit next to each other."There's a lot in my past I wish I could forget, a lot I wished never even happened." He sighed, s

I walked in on Falcon and Theron spreading some papers across the ground. Falcon didn't seem like a threat anymore, but I couldn't help but feel my mood swing the previous night was all her fault."Shouldn't you be gone by now?" I asked, not bothering to sound polite. My gaze shifted from her to the brown envelope lying torn open in a corner, but it wasn't the one she had brought for Theron."Wait, what's going on here?" I asked, rubbing my eyes with the back of my palms.Theron didn't say anything, he just sat there with a serious expression, gaze focused on the papers they had spread out."Is an

It was some point in the early hours of the morning. I opened my eyes slowly to the sound of someone sneaking up to us.It was too dark to see the face at the time, but from the frame, I knew it was a lady. She walked so calmly towards us, her hand reaching for something by her waist. My brain sprang awake as I pondered a way out of the situation. My gun was in my bag at the other side of the room, but there was an umbrella not too far from me. Though I doubt I could do anything with her hands already at her waist, that wasn't going to stop me from trying.Relief washed over me when I realised what was pulled out wasn't a gun, but a small rectangular object - a letter. It didn't completely dispel the tension in my mind, but it certainly gave me a higher chance of beating her.Soon she was close enough for me to see some little details of her face, mostly just her lips as she had a cap which she pulled down to obscure most of the upper parts of her face.A smile tugged the edge of her

Melissa made sure to enlighten me on everything I needed to know about something called 'sexuality' and the LGBTQ community which kinda sounded weird to me, but she insisted I needed to know all that.It was somehow funny to me that in all my time reading up for the licence exams, I didn't come across anything related to any of it."There are hardly any cases where sexuality is the main problem here in Lindin." Melissa shrugged it off when I mentioned it.And according to her, queer people in Lindin weren't as flashy and flamboyant as most you would see around the world, so it was easy to miss them.I had her drop me off a couple of blocks from Theron's place because I felt it would be weird to pull up in front of his apartment with Melissa."You sure you don't want me to drive you all the way there?" She asked as I stepped out."Yeah, this is good enough for me. Plus, I don't think he would appreciate me pulling up in front of his house with a detective when even his co-workers don't

Melissa was silent for a moment, leaving the office in complete silence aside from the low humming of the air conditioning. I pulled out my badge, ready to hear her dismiss me from the case or to say something harsh like how I was a terrible detective for letting my feelings interfere with an investigation."I guessed as much." She shrugged.Surprised, I looked up to realise she was smiling at me. "I'm sorry, but are you smiling?" I asked, confused."Of course I am, though I don't blame you for expecting a bad response. Not everyone is kind towards those who love differently from the societal norms." She shrugged."What?" I asked confused."Though Lindin is a safe place for all kinds of love, homophobia still exists in the hearts of some." She smiled reassuringly.I kept staring at her, confused; I had no idea what she was talking about. What did she mean by homophobia?"Well, I have another secret to tell you." I grinned nervously."You guys have already done it?" She gasped, eyes s
