[Arissa’s POV]
I sat on mine and Ivan’s bed, picking at my food. Despite the things in front of me being my favorites, none of them were appealing. Just the smell alone was making me nauseous. Despite that, I attempted a few bites and immediately regretted it when I felt the food I had just swallowed attempt to come back up.
"Excuse me!" I gasped, jumping up and running to the bathroom.
"Arissa?" Ivan called, seeming genuinely concerned. "Are you alright?"
"F-fine..." I managed between heaves.
As I spoke, I felt a warm hand press against my back as another lifted my hair before it could get ruined. Where the hand touched sent soothing tingles that immediately made me feel better.
"This child isn’t even born yet and is already causing trouble." I grumbled, collapsing against Ivan’s legs, and looked up into his eyes. "I’m blaming this on you."
"Me?" Ivan repeated, raising a brow. "How can you blame me when you..."
"La la la." I began, plugging my ears. "I can’t hear you!"
Jumping up, I began to move, but stopped as Ivan’s arms wrapped around me. Shit, this wasn’t fair.
"Are you really going to be mad at me your entire pregnancy?" He asked, resting his chin on my shoulder. "Today is a day of celebration. Maybe we could..."
"No," I snapped, attempting to wriggle free. "Absolutely not!"
"If you keep doing that, I’m going to bend you over right here and now." Ivan warned, sending pleasant tingles through me.
"Try it." I growled, intentionally pressing my ass against his dick. "I’m a pregnant woman now!"
"Do you think that matters?" Ivan husked, beginning to slide his hands down the shift I was now wearing until his fingers pressed against my thigh. "I know how to be gentle, you know?"
As he spoke, his hand found its way between my legs and slowly crept towards my already waiting clit.
"Can you?" I asked, biting my lip as a small moan attempted to escape.
"Oh...You’re not wearing underwear. "
Unable to resist what Ivan’s hands were already doing to me, I turned and snaked my arms around his neck. Leaning close to his ear, I took a nip, before pulling away and giving a small smile.
"I just threw up." I murmured.
All the desire that had been in Ivan’s eyes disappeared immediately at my words, causing me to burst into laughter.
"Go brush your teeth." He growled, untangling himself from me. "I’ll be here waiting."
"I don’t take orders from you, uncle." I giggled, jumping out of the way of his hand that attempted to spank me. "Too slow, old man."
Letting more laughter escape, I turned on my heel and skipped away towards the bathroom, leaving Ivan in a fluster. Only once I was alone in the bathroom, did my good mood fade as I began to consider what had happened at the Luna coronation.
Turning towards the mirror, I bit back the yelp of shock that attempted to escape as the same child from earlier on stared back at me with her hollow eyes.
"What the fuck are you?" I growled, leaning closer. "And why are you following me?"
‘It’s us.’ Rosario murmured, causing confusion to roll through me.
"How?" I asked, lifting a finger and touching the mirror while the child did the same. "And why is she here?"
‘I don’t know.’ Rosario admitted. ‘But can’t you recognize her?’
Narrowing my gaze, I took in the decomposing creature in front of me. Sure, her hair was the same color as mine and maybe I recognized the puffy dress she was wearing, but how the hell could that be me when I was alive?
As I considered, the child’s mouth began to move, forming incoherent words that had no sound. What in the world was she trying to say?
"Speak up, ghosty." I murmured, offering an ear. "I can’t hear you?"
I must have been going crazy. Here I was talking to a person that clearly didn’t exist. Did this mean that all the stress was getting to me?
"....Killed us…."
The guttural words sent a chill racing down my spine as I realized they came from the dead version of me.
"Repeat that." I hissed, clamping the edge of the sink. "I didn’t quite..."
"You killed us." The girl gurgled as blood began to leak from her eyes and stain her porcelain cheeks. "Revenge."
As she spoke, more faces began to appear around her, all with the same empty black eyes and hollow faces. However, that wasn’t what unnerved me. What got me was that I recognized every single face as it appeared. They were the faces of the children I had killed when I was trapped in the omega camp.
Was this some sort of PTSD episode after repressing those memories for so long? It seemed unlikely since I hadn’t come across anything to trigger me, but what else could it possibly be?
Trying to calm my heart, I felt my eyes grow wide as bony arms with clawed hands began to reach towards me, clawing at my clothes and hair, trying to pull me in with them.
Shit, what exactly was going on?
"Get the hell off of me!" I growled, jumping out of reach. "IVAN GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!"
Keeping my gaze fixed on the children that were now crawling out of the mirror, I listened to the sounds of Ivan rushing to the rescue.
"What’s wrong?" He demanded, kicking the bathroom door open and rushing in.
"Do you see them?" I asked, not bothering to turn around.
"Who?" Ivan asked, coming up behind me. "What am I supposed to be seeing?"
"Them!" I hissed, pointing a finger towards the little bastards that were still making their way towards me. "Are you screwing with me?"
"Arissa, are you alright?" Ivan asked, grabbing my shoulders and turning me around to face him. "Maybe you should try relaxing."
"I DON’T NEED TO RELAX!" I growled, shaking his hands off of me. "Don’t you..."
The rest of my words got caught in my throat as I turned around and found myself staring at my reflection in the mirror.
"They're... gone." I managed, blinking a few times. "But…"
Fuck, it looked like I was going crazy. I mean, I was already crazy, but it looked like I was really going off the deep end this time.
[Ivan’s POV]"Who?"I eyed Arissa as she continued to stare into the mirror ahead of her. Despite her insisting that something was there, I just couldn’t see it. Was she playing some sort of trick? Or was she actually seeing something?"Kids," Arissa muttered, reaching out and touching the mirror’s surface. "All the kids I killed in the past."At her words, I felt my heart clench painfully as images of that boy that attempted to kill her in the past appeared. Though I had managed to see that much of her memories, I hadn’t had the heart to actually ask her about it."Maybe you’re just tired." I murmured, wrapping my arms around her waist and pulling her against me. "Why don’t you try getting some sleep.""Sleep." The word came out quietly, but she didn’t protest as I pulled her closer. "I still need to brush my teeth." She pointed out, finally seeming to snap out of her daze."Then let me help you."Even though I knew that she didn’t need my help, something about leaving her alone in t
[Arissa’s POV]"Where to start?" I could feel my heartbeat picking up as I let all the emotions of that time crash into me. Until this day, I hadn’t told a single soul about that time or what I went through. It was still hard to believe that I would be doing this now. "As you know, at the age of eight, I didn’t meet my wolf.""That’s right." Ivan confirmed, tightening his hold on me. "And because of that, you were sent away.""Right," I sighed. "I was sent to Tenerbris Island." I continued, trying to keep my voice calm. "It was a specially made island for omega’s. The whole purpose of the island was to see who was the best candidate for reproduction. There it is kill or be killed. "Now that the words were flowing, so were the memories. The bloody sand that remained stained, leaving memories of what happened. The horror in my opponents' eyes as they slowly bled to death while I watched."Arissa," Ivan murmured, placing a hand on my cheek. "Where did you go?"Snapping out of my daze, I
[Arissa’s POV]"Welcome." Ivan called, remaining oblivious to the confusion that was rushing through me. "We are so happy that you agreed to...""No need for niceties." The man announced, cutting Ivan off.Instantly, I could feel annoyance beginning to radiate from him as he bit back his urge to argue. Haha, it looked like I would have some entertainment soon."There is no reason to attempt to ass kiss, alpha."This time I was unable to withstand the laughter that erupted from me, earning myself looks from all around me."It seems they aren’t impressed with you, Ivy." I managed in between bouts of laughter. "Shall I try?""Do you think it will...""Oh!" The tinkling voice echoed around us, cutting Ivan off once again.Confusion flared through me as I tried to make sense of what was going on. Turning my attention to the duo that had been coming to greet us, I braced myself as the woman’s eyes lit up with lust and she rushed forward."You’re so tiny and cute!" The woman cooed, wrapping
[Arissa’s POV]"Repeat that." I snapped, starting to believe that this old man was full of shit. "Kill the caster? How the fuck am I supposed to find them?"This was becoming more and more ridiculous. I had been cursed... cursed...As if the last fourteen years of my life weren’t a fucking curse. But not only was I cursed, I was also expected to know who exactly cursed me. How in the hell was I supposed to do that? I had crossed paths with so many insane people that it could be anyone!"Arissa, mind your manners." Ivan whispered, pulling me closer to him. "He is only...""Trying to help?" I finished for him, narrowing my gaze. "What would be helpful is..."I didn’t get to finish my sentence as a sudden wave of nausea hit me, causing my mouth to water and the taste of bile to dance on my tongue. Turning, I managed to make it to a rose bush before the contents of my stomach came back up. Dammit, this was really getting frustrating. If I wasn’t seeing dead children, I was throwing my bra
[Ivan’s POV]I watched as Arissa slipped off the formal attire she had been wearing for meeting the nomads and began to rummage through the closet for something more comfortable. Fuck the woman was enticing and the urge to attack her began to shadow any other thoughts."Don’t think about it, Ivy." Arissa giggled, pulling out a simple black dress and holding it against her chest. "Do you think this is acceptable for a banquet?"Standing up, I approached Arissa and yanked the far too short dress from her grasp. I didn’t know what she was playing at, but I wasn’t about to let any man see her in something so damn revealing."I think," I began, reaching around her and rummaging. "This is a better choice."Giving a tug, I pulled out a blue number with long sleeves and a floor-length skirt. Though the bust line was a little too low for my liking, it was much better than the one she was trying to wear."That grandma dress?" Arissa puffed, eyeing the garment in my hand. "I don’t understand why
[Arissa’s POV]The next day, I stood in front of the old holding cells where my mother had been banished after being brought back to Ivan’s pack. For a year, she had remained in this place, alone and away from the world. Not once had I bothered to come visit her, but despite my insistence that I didn’t care what came of her, the servants regularly informed me of her whereabouts. After what happened the night before, I didn't have the energy to argue with Ivan's suggestion, so I allowed him to bring me here. Now, I was regretting my decision and wishing that I had fought a little harder to not come.Letting out a frustrated growl, I looked over at Ivan as he spoke with the guard that watched over her during the day. I didn't know what they were talking about, and I didn’t care. However, before long, the guard was unlocking the door that kept my mother away from the rest of the world."Do we really have to do this?" I asked Ivan as I peered inside the dark building. "There are other way
[Ivan’s POV]"Are you alright?" I asked once Arissa and I were back in the pack house. "You’ve been really quiet.""Are you saying I talk a lot?" Arissa countered, attempting to put up a strong front."You know what I mean." I sighed.Even though this type of response was typical for Arissa, it didn’t mean I liked it. As her mate, I was more than willing to destroy anyone she asked me to, even if it meant destroying the moon goddess herself. I would do anything to see her smile and to know that she was happy and had everything she could ever want.‘Such a romantic.’ Bastian chuckled, sending waves of annoyance through me.‘Shut the hell up.’ I hissed, pushing him back to where he came from. ‘Stay out of this.’‘She is our mate.’ Bastian pointed out. ‘Therefore it involves me too.’‘Rosario is yours.’ I countered. ‘Arissa is mine.’‘I’m no ones.’ Rosario growled, causing Arissa to freeze mid-step and shoot me a glare."Are you discussing me?" She demanded, narrowing her gaze.Shit, I w
[Arissa’s POV]"Ivan," I whispered, trying to get myself together. "We need to move."The one that cursed me was near, and while we were sitting here staring at a note and a body, they were getting away. Fuck that. I wasn’t about to let that happen. Especially if letting the person go meant having to see more of those dead children, and now even my father.Jumping up, I began to move, ignoring Ivan’s protests as I located a window and launched myself through it, sending glass spraying towards the ground as I fell. Landing on my feet, I sniffed the air, trying to locate the intruder. When I managed to catch onto a faint scent, I began to move.‘Is this a good idea?’ Rosario asked as I began to make my way into the woods beyond. ‘Something doesn’t feel right.’‘Do you have any other suggestions?’ I huffed, stopping long enough to hunt for the scent I was following once more. ‘Should we just let this bastard get away?’‘No, but don’t you think it is weird that Ivan couldn’t locate the pe
