Zane's POV
The lights of my study flickered around me as I stood frozen in place. It felt as though the stone-cold wall pressed against my back, but nothing made me shiver more than Zara's words. A child. Those two syllables hovered in my head like the aftershock of a bomb all through the ride from the hotel to my mansion. My heart beat faster as I tried to breathe and make sense of Zara's words. She was... pregnant? And I never knew? The image of her angry face, the fury in her eyes, and the grief in her voice-it was all too real. Too raw to be a sham. She couldn't have been lying about it. The truth hit deep into me like poison. I didn't know what hit me harder. The unveiling of her identity? The news of a child? The man who was all over her? Or her final words to me as she walked away. The scene where I pushed her out of my house onto the pavement three yearsElora’s POVCoincidentally finding myself in the hallway leading to Zara’s office led to the worst turn of events. I saw Zane check his reflection in the mirrored wall outside Zara’s office before running his hand through his perfectly styled jet black hair. I smiled, thinking he was on his way to me to finally appease me or apologize for the recent events, but my smile was immediately wiped off when I saw him head towards Zara’s office. That snake!I followed quietly at his back until I saw him enter her office, and Zara’s assistant left there a minute after. I froze, my back pressed to the chill wall, wondering how he dared to chase her in broad daylight when any of the office workers could clearly see them. There was a sharp pang in my chest as I thought of all the possibilities that could go on in her office between the two of them. Then I tiptoed to the front of her door and placed my ear gently on the door to hear something implicating. He started begging her. I was star-struck
Zara’s POV“You guys kissed?!” Mia screamed.“Shhhh…Someone might hear you!” I said, placing my index finger on my lips.“Girl! This is straight out of a Wattpad fantasy.” A wide grin on her face followed.Looking like she still wanted to scream, she pressed her hands against her lips tightly to avoid it.“And it wasn’t a kiss,” I continued in defence. She smirked and looked me in the eye. “If it wasn’t a kiss, what was it, Zara?”I looked sideways, eyes raking my office as though the answer to her question was written somewhere on the wall. “Well…” I cleared my throat. “It was just my lips collapsing into his. A kiss would be more…” I placed my fingers on my lips, unknowingly caressing them. “More intentional, tongue intertwining, hot and desperate enough to–”“Are we still talking about a kiss here?” She asked with furrowed brows and folded arms that made me snap back into reality.I didn't know why I had still been unable to get it out of my head. I knew telling Mia about it would
Zara’s POV*Later that night at the house*A light, too bright, shone through the window, so I had to use my hands to shield my eyes. “Leo?” I called out, confused. “Did you order something?” He didn’t answer.I went over to the window to check who it might be. Oh shit. It was my Dad. I bent a little lower to avoid being seen from outside as I walked briskly to where Leo was. His ears were plugged, which explained why he didn’t hear me the first time.He saw me rushing towards him and took off his earpods, looking at me with furrowed brows. “Zara?” “What are you doing? He asked. “We have a situation,” I said, voice shaking. He narrowed his eyes. “What situation?” “My Dad is here.” “What?!” He immediately started scanning the room, eyes bulging. “He’s still outside. He just drove in. ”“What do we do?”“ And you didn’t give me a heads-up?”“I literally just found out, Leo. He gave me zero warning. I saw him through the window. He should be heading towards the front door by now. ”
Leo’s POVThe boardroom of Wesley Group was saddled with quiet tension when the meeting commenced. Although it was well anticipated, as this wasn’t the usual meeting but a proposal meeting for the upcoming sixtieth anniversary of Wesley group. All managers, directors, and investors have gathered, faces sharp and battle-ready. It was the first meeting since Zara and I were welcomed into Wesley group, so there were a few head turns here and there towards us. It wasn’t my first time in the board room, though. I had often come with my father, Brad, to watch how to be a leader and learn how to pitch to investors. Those were the only valuable things I learnt from him.I glanced briefly at Zara seated beside, and as always, she was calm and collected as she rhythmically tapped on her tablet. Zane and Elora came in hand in hand and took their seat. That was strange because the report Kelvin had been giving was that they were at loggerheads since Zara came back and drove a wedge between them.
Zane’s POV I was so tense having left Ridgeview without knowing who secretly recorded me or what they intended to do with the video. I sat in my office seat, fists and jaw clenched, thinking of my next line of action when Zara appeared in front of me. Her presence jolted something deep inside me that I was too stunned to speak, and I could only smile as she asked me out to lunch. Could she have been the one who followed me? She probably saw what I was building and wants to get back with me? Zara was too smart to show up out of nowhere for lunch if it wasn’t for a reason. That could only be the verifiable reason as to why she would want to eat lunch with me after avoiding me like a plague since she came back. I picked up my suit and obeyed her every instruction as we dashed out to our favorite rooftop bistro. She had constantly taken that place to be her favorite when we were newlyweds. She probably wanted to stir up old memories and emotions. Who was I to resist such an invitation?
I blinked not once or twice, but continuously.“What?, I whispered, my voice barely audible.“It’s just as you heard, Zara. We were never divorced,” he leaned back into his chair comfortably, like he hadn’t just dropped a bomb. “I was also deceived. The lawyer I used turned out to be a fake who was just after quick money.”I swallowed the bile that was rising in my throat. Did he expect me to be gullible enough to believe this trash? I bit my lip at the thought of the fact that I still had to bear the nonsense he was spitting. But then my phone dinged. It was a message from Leo. “We’re in. Mission successful. You can leave now.” The moment I scanned through the message, I closed my eyes in relief that I didn’t need to bear this anymore. Then, I shot him a burning gaze.“You must be so miserable to think you can lie about our divorce just to get back with me.” He blinked fast and looked around, shocked at the fact that I didn’t believe the lie he had cooked up.“You’re sick. Really s
