“How can you do this to me, Zane?!” I ask in a heartbroken and devastated tone as tears roll down my cheeks in torrents. “I stood by your side when everyone else left you! Hell, I donated my skin to you!” I say in a frantic tone as I try desperately to understand the reasons behind his actions. “Stop being pathetic, Zara. My thoughts were interrupted when my phone dinged. I rushed to check it, hoping it was a message from him, maybe to wish me a happy birthday, but it was from an anonymous number. Confusion had taken over my expression as I clicked the videotape he or she had sent to me. At first glance, I did not know how to react. It looked like my husband was dancing and romancing another woman in a setting that seemed to be a club. But Zane would never do such a thing. He would never hurt me that way. Taking a better look, my heart sank in an instant as I realized it was my husband for real! A blonde-haired lady was rubbing her body on his while his hand caressed her body, then she turned around and KISSED HIM! My phone fell from my hand, everything went silent. All I could hear was the slow beating of my heart. My chest tightened. I struggled to breathe as I stared at the video, the terrible act went on without an end, their tongues kept sliding into each other’s mouths. He was busy making out with another woman while I was stuck at home, still healing from the transplant three weeks ago.. I gave up everything for him, my life, my legacy, my body, everything. But apparently, I was wrong to have trusted him. This wasn’t the man I married, or at least I had hoped he wasn’t, but I had been seeing the signs.. Every single night, I waited to embrace him, but he returned home drunk. I tried to question him as to why he was so late, but he ignored me. He would just grumpily respond, telling me that he was too busy with work to even attend to his phone unless it was a call from a contractor. I thought the accident was still taking a toll on him. I made excuses for him, thinking he loved me too. I hoped he would stop being so nonchalant and return to the charming prince he was. A sudden sob tore through me, letting out all the pain I had ignored and kept buried for weeks. I did not know how long I had been there, but I sat there, crying like a little child who had misplaced herself from her parents. Just then, the door opened, and Zane walked in. “I’m sure you fucked your so hard that you forgot today was my birthday,” I said, anger hinting at my tone. “Why do you sound like that?” He asked, noticing the change in my demeanor tonight. “Why?” I asked him, the pain inside of me causing my entire body to throb. ‘ How could you do this to me? I thought you were still tired from the accident, but why did you have to hurt me like this?” My voice broke as fresh tears poured down my face. He squinted his eyes, looking confused, and was about to speak, but I had no time for puny games, so I showed him the video on my phone. The moment realization hit him, his brown eyes grew empty of all emotions, and his shoulders slouched slightly. So I was right, that woman was the work he had to do every single night, leaving me alone at home like his dog and not his wife. Just the thought of it caused my heart to grow heavy, and more tears flushed down my face. “How did you get that video?” He asked me, his thick brow arching. “Does it even matter how I got it? Is that what is important to you here?!” I raised my voice at him. “Is it the fact that I got the video you should focus on or the fact that the video even exists?!” How could you do this to me, Zane?!” I asked in a heartbroken and devastated tone as tears rolled down my cheeks once again, in torrents. “I stood by your side when everyone else left you! Hell, I donated my skin to you!” I said in a frantic tone as I tried desperately to understand the reasons behind his actions. “Stop being pathetic, Zara. You have lost the one thing that made you useful: your beauty, and in turn, your modelling career. The only woman who can secure my inheritance is Elora. You were only good while you lasted.” Zane said with a sneer on his lips. “It's over between us,” Zane said with a tone of finality. He turned to go upstairs but stopped abruptly. “I had hoped to allow you recover from the transplant and take your time to do whatever the fuck you want to around here but since it has come to this”. He bent over to take out a folder from his bag. “Here are our divorce papers. Sign it and get the fuck out of my house”. The silence echoed with thunderous rage while Zane stood there and watched me, calm and cold with emotionless eyes. My hands were shaking terribly, trying to get a grasp of the stack of papers he thrust into my hands. My eyes tearily scanned through the pages to be sure this wasn’t a prank. It was my birthday after all. He could be pulling a stunt. “I don’t care if you sign it now or not”. Zane said He dragged me by the shoulder, along with my shoes that were scattered on the floor where I was sobbing. I was too weak to resist his grasp. Too weak from trying to process everything that just happened today, on my birthday. “Now get out of my life and don’t come back here again,” Zane said as he slammed the door in my face. While I was still trying to process all that had happened, I heard a woman call out his name. I turned and saw a heavily pregnant woman as she walked towards the door. Why did she look like the woman in the video? Oh my God!Third Person POVOne Month LaterThe sun wasn’t as harsh as usual today. It cast its golden beams over the glass window of the grand cathedral, where Zara’s mother used to bring her as a little girl. She had longed for and looked forward to the day when she would be joined with the man she loves in this same place. Every detail of the venue was breathtaking for each guest who walked in. The altar stood tall, adorned with silk drapes and lilies that glowed in the light. Beneath it was Leo Armstrong, awfully handsome, standing like a knight, yet visibly nervous, as he was about to be joined with the one he loved forever. He wore a brown tuxedo with a bow tie around his neck that framed his jawline perfectly.Behind him stood Kelvin, smirking as he leaned closer to whisper in his ear. “Relax, Armstrong. You look like you’re preparing to take down Brad in a board meeting.”Leo chuckled under his breath and used his elbow to playfully hit Kelvin’s stomach. Kelvin tried to lighten his mood
Zara’s POVA week had passed since the night on Montana Island. But the fear, the rope scars on my wrist, and the nightmares, they had not left. Today was different, though. Because today, justice would be served. The courthouse was packed with reporters, journalists, flashing cameras, and the general public. The court buzzed with murmur and curiosity until the judge walked in and the room went silent.“All rise!” the registrar’s voice instructed. We all rose to our feet and remained standing until the judge sat.“The court is now in session for the People versus Brad Wesley and Zane Wesley on the count of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, corporate fraud and embezzlement, bribery, drug trafficking, attempted rape, and multiple counts of abuse of power.Leo took my hand in mine, steadying me because he knew how much it hurt to have been a victim of those crimes.I glared heavily at Brad and Zane, seated on the right side of the court, dressed in prison uniforms an
Leo’s POVI packed my files into my bag and grabbed my suit, preparing to dash out from the office at any moment from now. I quickly glanced through my phone, and my eyes stopped at a message from Zara. I opened it curiously. “I’m on my way to the Island for the picnic. I can’t wait to see you!” Island? Picnic? What was she talking about? Immediately, a call came in. It was Zane. I hesitated but hit accept anyway. “Speak,” I spat.“I bet you’re wondering where your little damsel is right now,” his voice came through, firm and venomous. My chair screeched back as I jumped to my feet. “Where is she? Where’s Zara?!”“Slow down, knight. She’s fine for now. Oh, your child is safe too.” He chuckled.Hot fury ignited in me as his words dropped. “If you touch a strand of hair on her head, I swear to God, Zane, I would kill you myself,” I threatened, my voice hoarse.“I’m scared!” he mocked. “I’d send you the address. Come alone or else, you can say bye to your woman and child,” he said, and
Brad’s POVEver since Edward returned to Wesley Group as the largest shareholder, the board had turned on me. My nerves had not known peace since I also heard that Leo was roaming the city, digging up evidence against me. I had to act quickly and now.Zane came into my office, looking confident.“Is it done?” I asked him.“You bet,” he said, handing me Edward’s phone. I was going to get rid of Leo and Zara and pin it all on Edward. That’s killing several birds with one stone in my books.“But remember, Dad. Don’t touch Zara. She is mine,” Zane warned.I nodded, but I had no plan on keeping my word. All those who dared to stand against Brad Wesley must be taken out. I smiled bitterly at his foolishness as I searched for Zara’s contact on Edward’s phone.“Zara. I have arranged something special for you and Leo. A picnic on the island. He is already there waiting for you.” I typed and hit send. The plan was to lure Leo there, then get rid of both of them. She definitely wouldn’t be abl
Leo’s POVEdward sat stiffly beside me as I drove. The silence in the car was heavier than the air outside. He cleared his throat, finally, the sound uncertain. “Where are we going?” He muttered.“Prison.”“Prison?”I brought out my phone from my pocket. My thumb hovered over it for a moment before pressing the play button. Zane’s voice filled the car, dripping with pride and mockery. “...he thinks he can toss me away. Unfortunately for him, my prison mate, Dexter, told me how Brad killed his wife and told him to take the fall for it. I’d keep using this to tie him down…”Edward froze, his lips trembling. “It was indeed Brad. Where did you get this?”“Zara helped plant a bug in his office a long time ago. Since I heard him and Brad discuss it, I started listening to all his conversations, then I caught this,” I explained.Edward sank back into his car seat. “So we’re going to..”“Meet Dexter,” I completed the statement.****Dexter walked in moments after Edward and me got to the vi
Leo’s POVMy eyes widened and lips parted, but before I could say any word, Zara had disappeared. I blinked rapidly, avoiding his eyes. “What are you doing here? I’m too busy for a talk right now.”He cleared his throat. “I don’t intend to take much of your time. I only desire that you let me speak to you for a few minutes.”I remained silent and took my seat. It would be better if I heard him out and forgot about him once and for all.“Thank you,” he took his seat and began.“I know you don’t want to hear a sob story, and I am not going to give you one, but I want you to know in detail the kind of person Brad Wesley is, so you know how to defend yourself.”“Brad and I are brothers born to the same father and mother. He never took the business seriously till we became young adults. But he would always look for easier ways to complete tasks that our father gave us. Then he would get mad at me for telling on him. It went on like that till we got actual roles here in Wesley Group.”“Bra
