Aria Nightshade woke to pain.

Not the dull ache of exhaustion.

Not the lingering sting of memory.

This was different.

Sharp. Burning. Alive.

It crawled beneath her skin like fire, forcing her lungs to pull in air too quickly, too deeply. Every sound hit her at once—the crackle of wood, distant voices, the slow drip of water somewhere beyond the walls.

Too loud.

Too clear.

Her eyes snapped open.

Wooden beams stretched above her, rough and uneven, lit by a dim lantern that flickered against the walls. The air smelled of smoke, metal, and something unfamiliar—something wild.

Not the forest.

Not Silverfang.

Somewhere else.

Aria pushed herself upright—

Too fast.

Her body reacted instantly, balancing before the dizziness could take hold. Her breath steadied on its own, her pulse slowing unnaturally quickly.

She froze.

That wasn’t normal.

Nothing about this was normal.

“You’re awake.”

The voice came from the doorway.

Low.

Calm.

Controlled.

Aria turned sharply.

A man stood there, tall and broad, his presence filling the space without effort. His gaze was fixed on her—not casually, but carefully, like he was measuring something unseen.

Danger.

Her instincts screamed it immediately.

Aria slid off the bed, her feet hitting the ground with steady force. No weakness. No hesitation.

“What did you do to me?” she demanded.

The man didn’t move.

“Saved your life,” he said.

“I didn’t need saving.”

His expression didn’t change. “You were dying.”

“I wasn’t—”

The memory hit her.

The forest.

The pain.

The explosion of something she couldn’t control.

Her voice cut off.

The man watched her closely. “You remember.”

Aria’s jaw tightened. “Where am I?”

“Shadow Hollow.”

The name settled heavily.

Rogues.

Survivors.

Danger.

Her eyes sharpened. “Why bring me here?”

“Because you shouldn’t exist.”

Silence.

The words landed harder than expected.

Aria took a step forward. “Explain.”

Instead, he stepped closer.

Not threatening.

But not safe either.

“You’re an omega,” he said.

“Yes.”

“And yet you threw a grown rogue across a clearing without touching him.”

Her chest tightened.

“That wasn’t—”

“Normal?” he finished.

Aria said nothing.

Because it wasn’t.

It hadn’t been.

The man’s gaze darkened slightly. “Your wolf isn’t weak.”

“I know what I am,” she snapped.

“No,” he said sharply. “You know what they told you.”

The room went still.

Aria’s breath slowed.

Dangerously quiet.

“That’s not the same thing.”

Something in her chest twisted.

Uncomfortable.

Unwelcome.

But real.

“I’ve always been this way,” she said, quieter now.

“Then explain why your body isn’t reacting like an omega’s.”

She couldn’t.

Her pulse was steady.

Her strength—wrong.

Everything about her felt… different.

Stronger.

Faster.

Like something had been unlocked.

The man studied her reaction carefully.

“They suppressed you,” he said.

The words hit like a strike.

Aria shook her head. “That’s not possible.”

“It is,” he said. “And it was done deliberately.”

Her mind flashed—

Meals that always tasted slightly bitter.

Days she felt too weak to stand.

Moments her body had reacted faster—only for it to fade.

She had ignored it.

Because she had been told who she was.

Because she had believed it.

“No…” she whispered.

But doubt had already taken hold.

The man stepped back slightly, giving her space.

“Ask yourself something,” he said. “When have you ever felt completely powerless?”

Aria’s breath caught.

There had always been something.

Small.

Faint.

Hidden.

She had dismissed it.

Because it didn’t fit the truth she had been given.

“They didn’t want you strong,” he continued.

“Why?” Aria asked, her voice tightening.

His expression hardened. “Because whatever you are… isn’t normal.”

Silence stretched.

Aria’s chest rose and fell slowly.

Not weak.

Not broken.

Anger began to settle.

Cold.

Controlled.

“They lied to me,” she said.

“Yes.”

“They kept me like that.”

“Yes.”

Her fingers curled.

Not shaking.

Tightening.

“They made me believe I was nothing.”

The man didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Aria lifted her head slowly.

Her eyes were different now.

Sharper.

Focused.

“What are you?” she asked him.

“Kael Varric,” he replied. “Leader of Shadow Hollow.”

The name carried weight.

Aria felt it immediately.

“And what do you want from me?”

Kael held her gaze. “Nothing.”

She didn’t believe him.

“No one helps for nothing.”

“Then consider this curiosity,” he said. “I want to see what you become.”

Before she could respond—

A sudden crash echoed outside.

Followed by shouting.

Urgent.

Fast.

Kael turned instantly. “Stay here.”

Aria moved before he finished speaking.

“I’m not staying anywhere.”

He didn’t stop her.

Instead, he stepped outside.

Aria followed.

The air outside was tense.

Rogues moved quickly, weapons drawn, their expressions sharp with focus.

“What happened?” Kael demanded.

“Scouts spotted movement,” one of them replied. “Silverfang patrols. Closer than usual.”

Aria went still.

Silverfang.

Her chest tightened—

Not with pain.

With something colder.

“They’re searching,” another rogue added.

Kael’s gaze flickered briefly toward Aria.

“They don’t search without reason.”

Aria understood immediately.

They felt it.

Or someone knew.

Her mind moved quickly.

If Silverfang had reacted this fast—

Then whatever had awakened in her hadn’t gone unnoticed.

A slow realization settled in.

This wasn’t just her secret anymore.

It was a threat.

Kael turned back to his fighters. “Fall back. Stay hidden.”

They moved instantly.

Disciplined.

Prepared.

Aria remained where she was.

Thinking.

If they were searching…

Then someone was afraid.

Her lips pressed together slightly.

Good.

Kael looked at her again. “You should stay out of sight.”

Aria met his gaze.

Calm.

Certain.

“No.”

A pause.

Then—

“Then you learn fast,” he said.

Aria didn’t hesitate.

Because something inside her had already changed.

“I won’t be what they made me anymore.”

Kael studied her.

And for the first time—

He nodded.

Because he believed her.

The air shifted suddenly.

Aria felt it before anyone spoke.

A presence.

Faint.

But familiar.

Her head turned sharply toward the forest.

Something was there.

Watching.

“Someone’s close,” she said.

Kael’s expression darkened. “Positions.”

Rogues moved instantly, vanishing into the trees.

Aria stayed where she was.

Listening.

Feeling.

Her heartbeat slowed.

Not fear.

Focus.

Then—

A figure stepped from the shadows.

Tall.

Commanding.

Unmistakable.

Ronan Blackthorn.

Everything inside her went still.

Not weak.

Not broken.

Aware.

His gaze locked onto her instantly.

Sharp.

Searching.

And something flickered in his eyes.

Recognition.

Impossible.

Aria didn’t move.

Didn’t speak.

Neither did he.

The distance between them felt smaller than it was.

Dangerous.

Charged.

Then Ronan’s expression hardened.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said.

Aria tilted her head slightly.

“And yet… here I am.”

Silence.

Tension snapped tight.

Behind him, Silverfang warriors emerged.

Weapons ready.

Behind her, rogues waited unseen.

One move—

And everything would break.

Ronan took a step forward.

Aria didn’t step back.

Something in his gaze shifted again.

Not certainty.

Not control.

Something else.

“What are you?” he asked.

The question lingered.

Heavy.

Real.

Aria held his gaze.

And for the first time—

She didn’t feel small.

Didn’t feel invisible.

Didn’t feel like nothing.

Her voice was calm.

Cold.

Certain.

“I’m the mistake you made,” she said.

The words hit harder than any attack.

Ronan stilled.

Just for a second.

But it was enough.

Because in that moment—

He knew.

Something had changed.

And whatever she had become—

It was no longer something he could ignore.

Aria felt the power inside her stir again.

Stronger.

Awake.

Watching.

And this time—

She didn’t try to suppress it.

Because she finally understood.

They hadn’t just lied to her.

They had feared her.

And now—

They had a reason to.

The air within the council grounds carried a different weight than the forest. It was not wild or unpredictable. It was controlled—measured, deliberate, and heavy with unspoken rules. Every movement felt watched, every sound seemed to travel farther than it should. Aria could feel it pressing against her skin, settling into her senses like a quiet warning. She stood at the edge of the clearing, her gaze moving over the stone structures and guarded paths. Nothing here was accidental. Everything had purpose. Even the silence between the wolves felt intentional.“They don’t trust you,” Kael said.Aria didn’t turn. “I noticed.”“They won’t, not easily.”“That’s not my concern.”Kael’s eyes lingered on her for a moment. “It should be.”Aria finally looked at him. “Why? Because they decide what happens to me?”“No,” he said. “Because they influence what happens next.”She held his gaze, measuring that. There was truth in it, but she refused to let it settle as fear.“I’m not here to please

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter 18: The Council’s Doubts

The forest did not feel the same after that night. It wasn’t just the blood, or the fight, or the way the wolves had retreated with something close to fear in their eyes. It was what had been said. What had been implied. He’s watching.Aria felt it even now.Not a presence she could see or hear, but something heavier—like a gaze that lingered just beyond her reach. It unsettled her more than the fight ever could. They had been walking for a while, moving farther from the clearing, but the tension had not left her body. If anything, it had settled deeper.“You’re quiet again,” Kael said.Aria didn’t look at him. “I’m thinking.”“That’s usually when trouble starts.”She let out a faint breath, almost amused despite herself. “You say that like I’m the problem.”“You are a problem,” he replied calmly. “Just not the kind you think.”That made her glance at him.“What does that mean?”Kael slowed slightly, his gaze moving ahead, scanning their path before answering. “It means you’re drawing

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter 17: Blood Under Moonlight

The night deepened as they moved. It wasn’t just the absence of light—it was something thicker, something that settled into the bones of the forest and refused to leave. The moon hung low above the trees, pale and watchful, casting long shadows that stretched across the ground like silent warnings.Aria walked beside Kael, her steps steady but her mind anything but. The memory she had seen still clung to her, refusing to fade. Every word echoed louder now, every image sharper. The hall. The voices. The command that had stripped something away from her.She will forget. Her chest tightened again. She hated that sentence.Hated how it felt like a chain wrapped around something she couldn’t yet reach.“You’re doing it again,” Kael said quietly.Aria didn’t look at him. “Doing what?”“Letting it pull you under.”She exhaled slowly. “I’m trying to understand it.”“You won’t,” he replied. “Not like this.”That irritated her.“Then how?” she asked, stopping and turning toward him. “Because r

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter 16: Forbidden Memory

The forest did not return to normal after he left.It couldn’t.Aria still stood where the Alpha had disappeared, her chest rising slowly, her thoughts tangled in something she couldn’t name. The air felt lighter without him there—but not safe. Not even close.“He’s gone,” she said, though her voice lacked certainty.Kael didn’t answer immediately. His gaze remained fixed on the spot where the Alpha had stood, his posture tense in a way Aria had not seen before.“No,” he said finally. “He’s just not here.”The difference mattered.Aria swallowed. Her mind replayed the moment again and again—the way the Alpha had looked at her. Not like a stranger. Not like prey.Like something he already understood.“Why did he say that?” she asked quietly. “About me crossing into something I don’t understand?”Kael exhaled slowly.“Because you did.”“That’s not helpful.”“It’s not meant to be.”Aria let out a breath, frustration flickering—but it didn’t last.Something deeper was pulling at her now.

  • The Unwanted Luna   Chapter 15: The Alpha Watches

The forest was no longer just a place. It had become a threshold.Aria felt it with every step she took. The deeper they moved, the heavier the air grew—not suffocating, not oppressive, but aware. Like something vast and unseen stretched across the land, watching every movement, listening to every breath. After the whisper… after that voice had called her name, something inside her refused to settle. It lingered.Quiet.Dangerous.“Don’t drift.”Kael’s voice cut through her thoughts.Aria blinked, pulling herself back to the present. She hadn’t even realized she had slowed.“I’m not drifting,” she muttered.“You are,” Kael said calmly, not looking at her. “Your attention keeps slipping.”Aria exhaled slowly, trying to steady herself.“It’s not exactly easy to ignore something that knows my name,” she said.Kael didn’t respond immediately. His gaze moved across the trees, scanning, measuring, calculating. Then—“It wasn’t trying to talk to you,” he said.Aria frowned.“It literally sai

The forest did not forget.Even after the fight had ended… even after the wolves had retreated into the shadows, something lingered.Watching.Listening.Waiting.Aria could still feel it.Not like before—not as sharp, not as immediate—but present. A quiet pressure beneath her skin, like a warning her body refused to silence. She stood where the fight had ended, her chest rising and falling slowly as she tried to steady her breath. The ground beneath her paws still carried the scent of blood and struggle, and the air was thick with something heavier than silence. It wasn’t over. Not even close.Behind her, Kael hadn’t moved far.He stood at the edge of the clearing, his posture relaxed—but not careless. His gaze shifted between the trees, his attention stretching far beyond what the eye could see.He was listening. To things Aria was only just beginning to sense.“You felt it too,” Aria said quietly, breaking the silence.Kael didn’t look at her immediately.“Yes.”That single word se
