Mia's POV

An email from Jackson Maxwell had arrived that morning.

Looking forward to our meeting on Monday to review the initial concepts. My assistant will send the updated requirements shortly.

My stomach fluttered at the sight of his name. Despite Scarlett's warnings, I couldn't stop thinking about him—not romantically though.

"Mom! Watch me!" Alexander called, pulling me from my thoughts. He was attempting to do a somersault on the grass, which ended with him rolling sideways instead of forward.

"Amazing!" I cheered, tucking my phone away. "Ten out of ten!"

Not to be outdone, Ethan immediately launched into his own acrobatic display, which was marginally more successful but ended with grass stains on his knees.

"I'm hungry," Alexander announced after exhausting his repertoire of tumbling moves.

I checked my watch. "It's only 10:30, sweetie. We just had breakfast."

"But exploring makes me extra hungry," he reasoned. "My stomach thinks it's lunch time."

"Mine too," Ethan chimed in.

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 229 He looks like the man in your old pictures

Mia's POVI finally looked up at our savior, a thank you on my lips. The words died in my throat.Jackson Maxwell stood before me."Ms. Williams," he said, recognition dawning in his expression. "This is unexpected.""Mr. Maxwell," I managed, my voice steadier than I felt.Ethan had scrambled down from the climbing structure and pressed against my side, looking curiously between me and the stranger."You know each other?" Alexander asked, still seemingly unfazed by his brush with injury."Mr. Maxwell is a client of mine," I explained, finally finding my voice. "He... he hired me to design a project for him."Jackson smiled, and for a moment, the resemblance to Kyle was so acute it stole my breath again."Please, call me Jackson," he said, extending his hand to Alexander. "And what's your name, young mountaineer?""I'm Alexander James Williams," my son announced proudly, shaking the offered hand with surprising formality. "And that's my brother Ethan Edward Williams. We're twins. And t

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 227 In the Park

Mia's POV"Mom, why can't we bring the rocket launcher?" Alexander asked, his lower lip jutting out in the signature pout he'd perfected over his four years of life.I sighed, reaching for my fourth cup of coffee. "Because it's not a real rocket launcher, sweetie. It's a paper towel roll covered in aluminum foil. And because the last time you brought it to the park, you hit Mrs. Goldstein's poodle.""That was an accident," he muttered, crossing his arms.Ethan, ever the peacemaker, patted his brother's shoulder. "We can bring the compass Uncle Thomas gave us instead. We can explore like real adventurers."My heart warmed at the mention of Thomas. He'd been gone for three days on a business trip to Chicago, overseeing the installation of his latest gallery exhibition. I missed him more than I wanted to admit."That's a great idea, Ethan," I said, packing sunscreen, water bottles, snacks, band-aids, extra clothes, and all the other essentials needed for an outing with two adventurous bo

Mia's POV"It couldn't be her," I said.Scarlett nodded, her expression unusually serious. "You're probably right. I must have misread something. Taylor's sentence was lengthy—like fifteen years minimum, wasn't it?""Twenty," I corrected, remembering the day the verdict was announced. I hadn't attended the trial, the twins were only a few months old then, and I was still recovering. "With no possibility of parole for at least twelve years.""Then we have nothing to worry about," Scarlett said, "It's only been four. This wasn't like that bitch's style anyway. I always thought she was like a witch who wouldn't let go, determined to ruin everything.""It's okay," I assured her, reaching across the table to squeeze her hand. "She's not coming back. She can't hurt us anymore."Scarlett smiled, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "You're right. I'm being dramatic. Occupational hazard of an influencer."We parted ways outside the restaurant, Scarlett climbing into an Uber bound for her So

Mia's POV"Not formally?" Scarlett's eyebrows shot up as she set down her wine glass. "What exactly does that mean, Mia?"I pushed the remnants of my tiramisu around the plate, suddenly finding the deconstructed layers fascinating. "We've talked about the future in general terms. He's mentioned 'when we live together' a few times.""That's not a proposal," Scarlett said flatly. "That's real estate planning."I laughed despite myself. "Not everyone needs the grand gesture, Scar.""My brother is the king of grand gestures! Remember when he flew that string quartet to Hong Kong just to play at the opening of his gallery?""That was for work," I reminded her."Still," she insisted, leaning forward with that intense look I knew so well. "Four years is a long time, Mia. You two are practically married already—he has his own drawer at your place, he cooks dinner with the twins, he's teaching them how to use compasses, for god's sake."I smiled at the memory of yesterday's "expedition" throug

Mia's POVBy six, I was running late for dinner with Scarlett. My phone chimed with a notification as I was gathering my things:ScarStar is now LIVE! "Haute Cuisine Adventures with Your Favorite Former Corporate Wife!"I smiled and tapped to open the stream. Scarlett's perfectly made-up face filled the screen, her signature red lips curved in a welcoming smile."Hello, darlings! We're approaching seven thousand viewers already! Amazing! For those just joining, I'm about to experience the most talked-about new restaurant in Manhattan—Lumière. The waiting list is three months long, but your girl got reservations for tonight!"The comments section was flooding with messages from her fans:"Love your earrings, Scar!" "What are you ordering???" "Is that a new Chanel bag???"Scarlett angled the camera to show her outfit—a stunning emerald dress that hugged her curves perfectly."For those asking, yes, this is Versace, and no, I won't tell you how much it cost because my financial advisor w

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 223 Enough obsessing

Mia's POV"Mom, you're doing it again," Alexander said, tugging at my sleeve.I blinked, realizing I'd been staring blankly at the half-made breakfast on the counter. The eggs sat in the bowl, whisk abandoned mid-stir. How long had I been standing there?"Sorry, sweetie. Just thinking about work." I forced a smile and resumed whisking."Your thinking face is scary," Ethan observed from his perch at the breakfast bar. "You look like Gas when he sees the vacuum cleaner."Alexander nodded solemnly. "And you keep checking your phone. Is it broken?"I glanced down at my phone, which I'd checked no fewer than fifteen times in the past hour. No new messages from the mysterious Jackson Maxwell. Just the formal email from his assistant confirming our next meeting next week."My phone is fine," I assured them, pouring the eggs into the heated pan. "Just expecting some important work emails."The twins exchanged a look. I recognized it immediately: They didn't believe me."Is Thomas coming for d

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 222 This person must have been important to you.

Mia's POVMy portfolio scattered across the floor, papers sliding in all directions. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The world had narrowed to a single point—the man standing before me.This face looked so similar to the Kyle I remembered. The same general structure, the same height and build. But as my initial shock subsided, I noticed differences. His hair was several shades lighter than I remembered—more brown than the black I had known. His cheeks were thinner, his cheekbones higher and more angular. There was a scar running along the left side of his jawline that I had never seen before. Most jarring of all were his eyes. The color was different—hazel instead of Kyle's intense gray. They held none of the recognition I desperately searched for."Kyle," I whispered, the name slipping from my lips like a prayer, yet also like a curse."I'm sorry?" His voice—so similar in timbre but with a slight accent I couldn't place. Nothing like Kyle's crisp, authoritative tone."I—I apologiz

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 221: The Meeting

Mia's POVThursday morning arrived with an unexpected drizzle. I stood by the kitchen window, coffee in hand, watching raindrops trace patterns down the glass. The twins had already left for preschool with my mother, who had insisted on taking them so I could prepare for my important meeting."It's just another client," I reminded myself, though the strange feeling hadn't left me since I'd first heard Maxwell's name.I spent the morning reviewing the property details one last time. The estate was truly magnificent—a sprawling property that had belonged to the Maxwell family for generations. Now apparently owned by a reclusive heir who wanted to transform it into something new while preserving its historical significance. My phone buzzed with a text from Thomas: Good luck today. Call me after?I smiled, typing back: Will do. Dinner still on?His response came immediately: Absolutely. The boys are excited about helping make pasta.By noon, I was dressed in my standard client-meeting att
