**Mia's POV**

"Mia?" His voice confirmed my guess. "Mind if I come in?"

"Of course not," I said, automatically turning my face toward his voice. The darkness that had become my constant companion pressed in around me.

"I was starting to worry," he said, settling into what sounded like the chair beside my bed. "You haven't responded to any messages about the children's center."

A small laugh escaped me despite everything. "Am I that predictable?"

"Let's just say I've noticed you're not the type to leave work messages unanswered." His tone held gentle amusement. "Even at three in the morning."

"I didn't realize I was so transparent," I said, feeling heat rise in my cheeks. "Though we haven't known each other long, it seems you've figured me out pretty well."

"Professional dedication is easy to spot." Papers rustled - he must be reviewing my charts. "Speaking of which, I have talked with your doctor. And I have some good news about your condition."

My hands twisted in the blanket. "Oh?"

Mia "Thank you for fixing my drone," Alexander said, his voice muffled against Kyle's hospital gown. "You're the best fixer in the whole world.""You're very welcome," Kyle replied. "But you did most of the work yourself. You identified the problem, you read the manual, you asked good questions. I just had slightly steadier hands."Alexander pulled back to look at Kyle's face. "Will you teach me how to fix other things? Like when my Legos break, or when my toy cars stop rolling straight?"Kyle's eyes found mine over Alexander's head. "I'd like that very much" .Before I could respond, Ethan stepped closer to the bed, his attention focused on something that had caught his eye. His small hand reached out to touch Kyle's fingers where they rested on the hospital blanket."You do that thing too," Ethan said quietly, his voice carrying the wonder of someone who had just discovered they weren't alone in the world."What thing?" Kyle asked, following Ethan's gaze."When you concentrate on s

Mia's POV"Don't say that," I whispered, my voice breaking on the words. The tears came faster now. "Don't talk about someday."Kyle's eyes softened, but I could see the resignation there."Mia—""No." I leaned forward. "I believe in exceptions. I believe in miracles. You won't convince me."The afternoon light shifted through the hospital blinds, casting moving patterns across Kyle's face. He looked younger when he smiled, the sharp edges of illness softening that reminded me of all those years."I love your optimism," he said gently, his free hand reaching up to catch a tear that had escaped down my cheek. "But this isn't a fairy tale."His thumb traced across my cheekbone with the careful tenderness of someone memorizing a texture. "My immune system is eating me alive from the inside out."I could taste salt on my lips, but I didn't care. "Then find new doctors. New treatments.""Mia, they all said the same thing.""Then they're wrong. Sometimes doctors are wrong. "Kyle studied my

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 367 I forgive you, Kyle

Mia's POVKyle's words settled into the spaces between my ribs, each syllable finding a home in places I'd tried so hard to empty and lock away.I cried while smiling, the tears warm against my cheeks, tasting of salt and something that might have been relief. "I forgive you, Kyle."The words came from somewhere deeper, from the place where seventeen-year-old Mia still lived, the girl who had loved him with the devastating completeness that only comes once in a lifetime. "You know how much I once liked you," I said, the word 'liked' so inadequate it almost made me laugh. Like was what you felt for chocolate ice cream or sunny afternoons. "I never envied Taylor," I continued, my voice growing stronger as the truth flowed out of me like water from a broken dam. "But you know, I only ever envied her for being your girlfriend."Kyle's looked at me. His eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made the hospital room disappear around us. For a moment, we were seventeen again, and I was wa

Kyle I fought against the medication's pull, struggling toward consciousness like a swimmer fighting toward the surface of deep water.Light filtered through my eyelids, warm and real. Sound came back gradually—the beep of monitors, the whisper of air conditioning, voices in the hallway discussing lunch menus and discharge plans. I could smell the particular mix of antiseptic and industrial coffee that lived in hospital walls. And beneath it all, fainter but unmistakable, I caught the scent of spring rain and growing things. My eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the soft light filtering through partially closed blinds.Mia.She was real. She wore jeans and a soft blue sweater, her copper hair falling in loose waves around her shoulders. Her eyes were red-rimmed. She'd been crying."Hey," she said softly, setting the coffee cup aside. "You're back."I tried to speak, but my throat felt like sandpaper. Mia immediately reached for a plastic cup of water on the bedside table, holding the s

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 365 In His Dreams

Kyle's POVThe medication pulled me under like warm, thick water and impossible to fight. In that deep drowning, time folded in on itself like origami made of memory, each crease revealing another moment I'd thought I'd forgotten.I was seventeen again, standing in the doorway of Mia's high school art classroom, watching her work on a canvas that seemed to glow under the afternoon light streaming through tall windows. Her hair caught the sun in threads of copper and gold, and she held her brush with the kind of reverence other people reserved for prayer.I'm just passing by.I'd stepped closer, drawn by the quiet confidence in her. She carried her own atmosphere, serene and untouchable. The canvas showed a landscape that shouldn't have existed—trees that grew upward and downward simultaneously, their roots and branches intertwining in impossible geometries. A river flowed through the center, reflecting a sky that held both moon and sun, stars scattered like seeds across twilight blue.

  • The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins   Chapter 364 Kiss goodbye

Mia's POVThe parking garage felt different with Thomas standing there, his presence shifting the air like someone had lit a candle in a dark room. He wore the same clothes from this morning, but they looked rumpled now, as if he'd been sitting somewhere for hours."How long have you been waiting?" I asked through the car window."Since you texted about leaving the restaurant." His voice was soft, careful not to wake the children. "I wanted to be here when you got home."Alexander's head had fallen against the car window, his mouth slightly open, the drone manual still clutched against his chest. Ethan slumped in his seat with his first-edition books balanced on his lap, while Madison curled up like a small cat, her art supplies arranged protectively around her."They're exhausted," I said, opening the car door quietly.Thomas moved around to the other side without being asked, his movements efficient and gentle as he unbuckled Alexander's seatbelt. The little boy stirred but didn't w
