HANNAH'S POV:

When we entered the house, the living room absolutely exploded with sound and color and joy.

Balloons hung everywhere, from the staircase railing, from light fixtures, clustered in corners. Ribbons in every color imaginable were draped across furniture. The dining table was completely covered with plates and platters of food, more food than we could possibly eat.

Cherry ran forward immediately and grabbed my free hand, literally bouncing with excitement.

"Hannah!" she squealed at

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   Caught in Fear

MARL'S POV:Alistair's face was like a constantly shifting paint palette.Angry red. Fearful white. The deep purple-black of a man who realized he was being threatened and couldn't do a single thing about it. Looking at him right then, I couldn't help wanting to take a quick photo of his pathetic expression. And I did not just think about doing it. I actually raised my hand and did it.My phone was already in my hand before I even had time to stop myself. The shutter click was soft, barely audible, but in the tense, dead silence of the closed room, it sounded almost like a loud gunshot. The glowing screen showed the freshly captured image, Alistair's face frozen in a moment of pure, unadulterated panic."What do you think you are doing!" Alistair's head snapped directly toward me, his eyes wide with pure outrage. He looked like he wanted to jump across the floor, grab me firmly by the collar, and rip the phone out of my hands. But then he seemed to think better of it. His hands c

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   Alistair's Darkest Secret

ALISTAIR'S POV:Vesper was fine out in the hallway. Whatever cheap little mind game Marl was trying to play on me didn't matter in the long run. I could easily sort that out later when we got home. But Mary, Mary was the wife who had publicly humiliated me. Mary was the woman who had let another man put his hands on her and kiss her right in front of my face. Mary was the person who had torn our entire marriage down to the ground.I turned back around to face him, my jaw clenched so hard my teeth hurt."What right do you think you have to even say her name?" I spat out, taking a heavy step back into the room. "She is my wife! She belongs to me! You need to stay the hell away from her, or I swear to God...""Or what?" Marl cut me off, his voice flat, steady, and borderline bored. "You're the one who specifically asked me to keep an eye on Mary in the first place. Whether you like the reality of it or not, I did exactly what you asked me to do. And deep down, we both know that no ma

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   The One Who Calls the Shots

ALISTAIR'S POV:"Baby, please, just calm down for a second and listen to what he has to say, okay?" Vesper begged, grabbing onto my forearm with both hands. She was squeezing my arm so hard that I could feel her long nails digging straight into my skin, leaving tiny crescents of sharp pain behind. Why was she so terribly scared? Why would a simple argument make her panic like this? Did being pregnant really turn a woman into such a nervous wreck? I had heard people say before that women became far more fragile and sensitive when they were expecting a baby, much more prone to sudden tears, random worries, and irrational fears. Maybe that was all this was. Maybe her body was just completely overwhelmed by the whole situation. Or maybe there was something else going on under the surface, something important she was keeping to herself and refusing to tell me."Stop arguing in front of me and just go outside," Marl said, waving his hand toward the hallway like he was shooing away a both

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   One Chance

ALISTAIR'S POV:I thought he was so ridiculous that it was almost laughable.Who in the world did he think he was talking to? Did he really think he could pull off something even I couldn't accomplish with all my money and connections? Did he honestly believe he had the power to stand there offering me grand deals, making wild demands, and looking at me with that smug expression like he held every single winning card in his hands? He was just a lawyer. A small-time, average lawyer who had only gotten to where he was today because of me. Because of my personal network, my constant generosity, and my willingness to keep throwing him a bone whenever he needed work."What on earth makes you think you have any right to bet against me?" I asked him, my voice dropping into a low, dangerous growl.Vesper's hand rested flat against my chest, and I could feel her entire body trembling violently beside me. Her fingers felt like ice against my skin through my shirt, and her breathing was shal

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   The Bet

ALISTAIR'S POV: "Why are you getting so angry?" he asked, his tone light and full of easy amusement. "I thought you couldn't wait to OPEN up your life." The words hit me like a physical slap across the mouth. "Not her!" I shouted, my voice rising to a roar. The loud sound echoed off the high walls, raw, harsh, and desperate. Then the sickening realization crashed over me like a cold wave. "Wait a second. Did you suggest an open marriage to me because you had already thought about doing this with her? The very moment you got the chance, you went right after her. You're that desperate—" "Don't insult her." His tone suddenly turned dead serious. All the casual amusement instantly drained from his face, replaced by something dark, icy, and sharp as steel. His eyes narrowed into slits, his jaw tightened, and for the very first time since I'd known him, I saw something genuinely dangerous lurking in his expression. "I won't say it twice." I should have rejected his warning wit

  • The Unwanted Wife's Return (Ex-Husband Wants Me Back)   It Couldn't Be Mary

MARY'S POV:"You collapsed right here on the living room floor, calling out, 'Wait, don't go.' Who made you so upset?" Vesper wraps both of her arms around mine, her warm body pressing tight against my side. Her warmth is familiar, but it doesn't comfort me the way it used to. There's something hollow about it now, something shallow that doesn't quite reach my heart anymore."Nothing. It was just a weird dream. I dreamed about you."The lie rolls around in my mouth before I swallow it down. The person in my dream must have been Vesper. I lost her years ago when she left, so that has to be why I'm so afraid of her leaving me again. It has to be her. There's no other logical explanation. The alternative, that the woman in my dream was actually Mary, is completely unthinkable."I'm always right here, baby. I'm here for you," Vesper whispers softly, burying her face against my chest. It's only then that I realize she had been lying directly on top of me while I was passed out cold on
