Sebastian paced up and down the lowly lit bedroom. The carpet by the window was wearing thin, and the stubble on his cheeks had grown. It had been two more days, and Christine still lay in the bed asleep.

From the occasional stir of her eyelids fluttering to the tiny twitches of her hand, it was the only life he seemed to sense in her. Even her heart had begun to beat softly but still beating to the same rhythm of his, but so faintly it had him curse beneath his breath.

Sebastian called Rowan up to his room several times during those days, having the coven physician in tow. The physician checked the beating of her heart, using needles to draw out her blood and checking for clotting factors that had appeared in those few days. Sebastian watched him as he nodded, mumbling everything was according to schedule, and she would wake soon.
