Chapter 2

Lennox Yule
“Can you take me to the infirmary?”

Mia tilted her chin up, striking what she clearly thought was an elegant angle as she gazed up at Ethan.

Ethan’s expression darkened. He immediately stepped behind me like I was a human shield.

“No.”

Right then, Lily walked over, looking serious.

“Are you heat exhausted? I can give you a quick injection. You’ll feel better right away.”

She reached into the oversized pocket of her training uniform and pulled out a big syringe.

“Don’t be shy. It’s my secret concoction.”

“I’m fine, thank you. I feel much better already.”

Mia shot upright and bolted, like she was afraid Lily would actually stick her with a needle.

---

Later that day, I noticed our dorm door wasn’t fully closed.

As soon as I stepped closer, I heard voices inside.

“Mia, I don’t think this is a good idea… isn’t Ethan Chloe’s boyfriend?”

“So what? They’re not married. And even if they were, people get divorced.”

“Come on, Jenna, relax. I’m not going to do anything.”

I didn’t expect to overhear gossip about myself.

But after hearing Mia’s nonsense, I pushed the door open.

The room fell silent the moment I walked in.

And Mia, who had just openly talked about stealing my boyfriend, didn’t look the slightest bit guilty.

She was still stroking the tablet in her hands, completely absorbed.

“His brow is sharp and sculpted, like it was carved by hand…

“The slight downward tilt at the corners of his eyes gives him that cold, distant look…

“High nose bridge, thin lips pressed into a calm, straight line…

“A clean, defined jawline. Every movement carries this effortless, untouchable aura…”

Mia clutched her tablet like a total creep, muttering to herself.

“This is my destined male lead…”

Wait.

Was she… drooling over my boyfriend’s photo?

Seriously?

This girl had no shame.

Ethan was basically a campus celebrity.

Not because of anything he did, but because the Cole Hall on campus was donated by his dad.

But I was the only one who knew the truth.

His “cold and distant” vibe?

He only came off as cold because he had mild face blindness and usually couldn’t tell people apart.

That “cool, untouchable aura”?

That was because there was absolutely nothing going on in his head.

CEO material?

More like a rich kid with zero brain cells.

Ethan clung to me like crazy.

I had just hung up a call with him when I noticed Mia staring at my tablet screen.

The wallpaper was a photo of me and Ethan together.

He’d practically begged me to use it.

I glanced at Mia practicing her “innocent teary-eyed” expression in the mirror.

I looked away, pretending not to care.

But honestly, it made me feel sick.

---

“Help, that coffee spill angle is more precise than my thesis plagiarism check.”

“Classic damsel-in-distress setup. So cliché.”

“So what if it’s cliché? If it works, it works.”

“Hey, I paid for this. I want something entertaining.”

The floating comments suddenly appeared again.

My gut told me something was about to happen.

Sure enough, Mia walked over holding a cup of coffee.

Then, at a very deliberate angle, she “tripped” straight toward Ethan.

I shoved Ethan out of the way and, in the same motion, caught Mia by the waist.

Nice. All that kickboxing training wasn’t for nothing.

Then I let go.

Mia hit the ground hard.

Coffee splashed all over her. Her face, her clothes, even her pink princess dress were completely soaked.

I looked at her miserable state and almost laughed out loud.

“Wow, is this the evil side character? That was totally on purpose. Terrible acting.”

“Poor baby, she’s about to cry…”

“Oh my god, Mia, I’m so sorry,” I said sweetly. “I guess I’m just not very strong. I couldn’t hold onto you.”

“You’re not mad at me, right?”

Mia’s face turned green, then red.

I’d stolen her lines.

Served her right.

“Waaah… that was scary…” she whined, putting on her act instantly. “Chloe, did you do that on purpose?”

She turned to Ethan, pouting.

“Ethan… that really hurt. Can you blow on it for me?”

Lily looked down at him coldly, not a trace of warmth in her eyes.“Cut the act. Do you really think I’m stupid?“Save the excuses. If you’d actually had any self-control, the system wouldn’t have been able to use you in the first place.”Everyone knew the truth. As strange as that malicious system was, it could only fully control people who already had something rotten hiding inside them.Ethan was proof of that. Even when the system managed to influence him for a moment, he snapped out of it almost immediately and held on to who he really was.At first, Logan really had been under its control. But once he came to, he never refused any of it, did he?In the end, he’d lost to the ugly desires he’d been carrying all along.Without that damn system holding her up, Mia seemed to lose the very thing keeping her together. She started aging at a terrifying speed, visible almost day by day. After Logan lost Lily for good, his family cut him off and threw him out.“Please… please hel

If this weren’t a world ruled by law, I would’ve killed her.My eyes burned red as I stared her down, every word deliberate.“You took a life. You’re going to pay for it. There’s no escaping that.”“Oh, right.”A slow, chilling smile spread across my face.“I almost forgot. You won’t have to wait long.”Mia’s eyes widened in panic.“What do you mean?”I didn’t answer.I turned and walked away.Behind me, she completely lost it, screaming like she’d gone mad.“Say it! Say it!”“If you’ve got the guts, then kill me!”---The next time I saw Mia was at a party after winter break. The moment I noticed the floating comments again, I knew she was nearby. This wasn’t a coincidence. To guard against that ridiculous system, I’d had people keeping tabs on her the entire time. What surprised me was the man standing next to her.Someone I recognized.Mia saw me too.Her eyes snapped toward me like poisoned blades, full of pure hatred, like she wanted to tear me apart.I gave

Ethan had gotten close to her for one reason only: to find the malicious system and destroy it, so he could finally break free of its control. But that system was slippery. He’d been tracking it for a long time, and the most he could do was use technology to interfere with its influence. With what we had now, there was no way to destroy it outright. As for the evidence that took Mia down, only the first video came from the camera Ethan had installed in my apartment.Everything else had been recorded by Mia herself. What she never expected was that the necklace Ethan gave her had a hidden pinhole camera inside it, quietly capturing every ugly thing she did.The harder people had gone after me before, the more humiliated they looked now.“I said from the start, let the truth come out first.”“What about all those media accounts that helped mob her online? I support suing them. The media these days has no conscience.”“I’m sorry. I was wrong about you.”That apology video shot

“You’d look better wearing nothing.”“Since you’ve got no shame anyway.”I stared at her through clenched teeth. The thought of the kitten made something inside me snap.“I can handle people getting hurt, but animal abuse is a hard no.”“Seriously, I was thinking the same earlier. I don’t support someone like this getting a redemption arc.”“Not me. I only watch this kind of twisted stuff.”“Come on, fight already. I love watching girls throw down.”…My whole body was shaking. My eyes burned as I shot back,“You’re a sick freak for hurting animals. Karma’s coming for you.”Mia didn’t even flinch. If anything, her smile widened.“Karma? Don’t be ridiculous. Everyone online is on my side right now. You’re the one getting torn apart.”She looked me up and down, her voice dripping with mock sympathy.“Look at you. Completely alone. Doesn’t that feel pathetic?”“Oh, and guess what? Ethan might already be hooked on me.”She pulled out her phone and waved it in front of me.“

The backlash hit like a tidal wave.It didn’t just drown me. It wiped out everything in its path.Within hours, people had dug up my entire past. From getting into a fight with a boy in kindergarten to arguing with classmates in high school. The final verdict?I was labeled a violent, unstable psycho. A female version of some kind of born criminal.Meanwhile, Mia had already stepped on my name to boost herself. She went live.On camera, she wore a frilly, pastel dress, her voice soft and sugary sweet.“I honestly never thought she’d do something like that…“Oh my gosh, it’s so scary… I’ve been having nightmares every night…“Aww, thank you for the gifts, sweetheart. Don’t worry, I’ll stay safe.”…A top university student abusing a cat wasn’t just gossip anymore. It turned into a full-blown public scandal.Soon, I was under police investigation. The school also started pushing to expel me.“So,” I said, a cold smile tugging at my lips as I looked at the academic office

  • The Villainess Bound to a Rogue System   Chapter 4

I stared at the screen, my face cold and unreadable. It wasn’t long before Mia came back. She looked downright cheerful, humming to herself like the explosion on the campus forum had nothing to do with her.And then I noticed something else. She looked prettier. She was still as skinny as ever, all bones and angles, still wearing those childish, out-of-place kawaii outfits. But the thick blanket of acne that used to cover her face was almost gone, leaving her forehead smooth and clear. So that was it.She’d gotten punished with an electric shock before for failing one of her missions, and now that she’d completed one, she’d been rewarded. The second Mia saw me, she immediately put on a timid little act, lowering her eyes. But the smugness in her expression was impossible to hide. She swayed slightly as she spoke, her voice syrupy sweet.“Chloeee… I can totally explain. It’s really not what it looked like.”“No need,” I said. “I believe you.”She clearly hadn’t expected tha
