Lena POV

“Ah, Mr. Hale, it's lovely to have you back again with us,” the chef said, bobbing his head.

Nathan, predictably, was ignoring him.

He had his hand on the small of my back, his fingers trailing light lines over my bare skin. Each touch of his sent tingles coursing up my spine. I struggled to speak, but it felt like my tongue weighed a hundred tons.

“Mr. Hale?” the chef said nervously.

Nathan finally turned to face him. “Good evening, Enzo. Don't tell me you weren't expecting me. I have a reservation here every last Friday of the month.”

Sweat actually dripped down the face of the chef. He looked nervous, and he wrung his hands anxiously.

“Well, ah… we heard of your … predicament. We prayed earnestly for your recovery, I most of all. Then…”

“Then what, Enzo?” Nathan asked, his voice dangerously low.

Enzo swallowed loudly. “Mr. Sebastian informed the establishment that you were not goi

  • The Vow I Never Took   I Want To Kiss You

Lena POVThe hearth hissed as the logs burned and cracked. Golden orange flames leaped from log to log like excited acrobats. I held a mug of coffee in my palms, warming myself with the heat. Steam wafted and coiled like a finger as it ascended out of the cup. I pulled my knees closer to my chest, snuggling deeper into the couch, and holding the blanket strewn over my shoulders a little tighter. Nathan sat beside me. He'd taken off his shirt, and honestly, it was hard not to stare. Every part of him was plated with muscle. He looked more like a Greek god than man. His chest rose and fell as he breathed, and a tail of hair ran between his well defined abs, disappearing into his pants. His tattoos gleamed like obsidian paint in the dim light. I wanted to reach for him and take his jaw in my hands, to press my face into his chest and breathe in his scent. His hand rested on my thigh, his fingers drawing circles over my tingling skin, and each

  • The Vow I Never Took   Real Battle

Lena POV“I’m back on track!”The crowd froze as Nathan's voice carried to every edge of the conference. “Nathan… Nathan Hall?” A reporter said nervously, his eyes wide open. In his surprise, he'd forgotten to turn on his recorder. “In the flesh,” Nathan replied. “I'm back. News of my declining health has had a figment of truth, but as you can clearly see, they were exaggerated. I'm back and I'm well, and I'm resuming control of the company immediately. I apologise to our investors and to the board for my absence. It is my hope that I am able to assuage their fears. But none of you have anything to worry about.”The crowd stilled, like a dam just about to break, then it broke. Suddenly, everyone had questions.“Where have you been, Nathan?” “How did you recover so quickly, Mr. Hall?”“What do you have to say about your declining stocks?”“When will you be rolling out the new product?”“Did M

  • The Vow I Never Took   Fifty Five

Nathan’s POV“People are already speculating about the announcement,” Grace said softly. “Most think Sebastian is about to be named the acting CEO.”I clenched my jaw tightly, feeling anger burn in my chest. That was exactly what they wanted. For the world to accept Sebastian as the face of Hale International while I disappeared forever. Not today.Behind Sebastian came Richard, wearing his usual black suit, his silver hair slicked back neatly. And beside him was Victoria, dressed in an elegant navy gown, her hair styled perfectly, her expression calm and cold. The three of them stood together, posing for the cameras as if they were royalty. Reporters shouted their names, and their smiles grew wider as they waved and walked towards the stage set up near the main entrance.Beside me, Lena let out a quiet sigh. “They look so sure of themselves,” she said softly.I smirked slightly, shaking my head. “They won’t be smiling for long.”At that moment, I turned to Adrian who was seated in th

  • The Vow I Never Took   Fifty Four

Nathan’s POV I sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the floor with my hands clasped together tightly. My mind was running in a thousand directions, each thought darker than the last. I could hear Lena humming softly in the kitchen as she made breakfast, her voice calm and sweet, but it didn’t reach the heaviness in my chest. Sebastian. His name alone made my jaw tighten painfully. I knew what he was planning. I knew exactly what Richard and Victoria were trying to do. If Sebastian stepped into that company, even for a day, it would ruin everything. The board would see him as a better choice. The employees would get used to his face. And once that happened, reclaiming my position would become almost impossible. No. I couldn’t let that happen. I stood up quickly and walked out to the kitchen. Lena turned to look at me, her eyes warm and bright as always. “Hey,” she said with a smile. “Breakfast is almost ready.” I walked over to her and placed my hands on her shoulders, m

  • The Vow I Never Took   We Will Find A Way

Lena’s POVAfter Nathan’s confession, I didn’t know what to say. My heart felt heavy with worry, but at the same time, I understood why he hid the truth. The Hale family was dangerous. I had seen enough to know that if they realised Nathan was awake and planning something, they would strike before he could even move.I reached out and held his face in my hands, making him look at me. “Nathan,” I said softly, my voice trembling a little. “I understand. I don’t like that you kept it from me, but… I understand. I know you’re only trying to protect us.”His eyes softened with relief, and he rested his forehead against mine. “Thank you,” he whispered. “Thank you for not hating me.”“I could never hate you,” I said with a small smile, brushing his hair back from his forehead. “But promise me one thing.”“Anything,” he said quickly.“Promise me that from now on… we’ll do this together. No more secrets. No more trying to protect me by keeping me in the dark. If we’re going to survive this… I
