New Bodyguard

Ana Smith sat in front of the vanity mirror and angrily curled her hair in tiny curls.

She was angry. At her father, at her mother, at everyone. Just like her big brother, Lincoln, her whole life has been overshadowed by her father.

Every decision she and her big brother make was their father's. She has never gotten to live for herself… not even for once.

She was only just twenty years of age, and those twenty years were her most gruesome years.

She had no friends, had never had a boyfriend, nor had fun Luke people her age.

She had always wondered why of all the men in existence, Harry Smith had to be her father. To her, he was the worst father in the whole history of fatherhood.

Now, he had employed a bodyguard who would be by her side all day and report her actions to him. More like a stalker.

She couldn't be more angrier.

A sharp knock came across the door and she paused. Thinking it was one of the maids she said, “The door is open, come in.”

The door didn't open, neither did anyone come in.

She paused and faced the door, “I said come in!”

No one came.

Frustrated, she sprang to her feet and advanced to the door, ready to lash out at the maid.

“Didn't you hear me say…” Her words were cut off as she stared at the masculine frame before her.

She blinked.

Standing in front of her was a man, he was dressed in an immaculate suit, his dark was glistening and swept backward, and his face was smooth-looking, fresh, void of beard and handsome. He had on dark-framed spectacles that only highlighted his handsomeness.

She blinked again, acutely aware that her heart was hammering against her chest.

She had never seen someone look so handsome in a suit before, not even Lincoln nor Rahim.

“Who are you?” She asked curtly, pointing her chin at the man. She placed him at twenty-five years, her brother's age.

“Hi there.” The man replied in a smooth voice, “I'm Arthur, it's nice to meet you. From now on, I'll be your driver, your assistant and your bodyguard.”

So this is the bodyguard! She thought. Why is he so… handsome?

She cleared her throat and then glared at him, “I don't need a bodyguard! I can take care of myself! Go away!”

“I'm afraid I can't do that, Miss,” Arthur said strictly, “Your father had given me full control over you and the decisions you'll be making at school.”

Anger flashed in Ana’s eyes, “Go to hell!” She snarled, “Both you and my father!”

Then she slammed the door in the man's face, leaned against the door and clutched her chest.

“What the hell was that?” She mumbled, “Why is my heart pounding like this? Surely, this is not the first time I've seen a handsome guy before!”

“Miss,” Arthur called from outside, “We have to go. It's getting late and today is your first day.”

Ana gave no response.

“Miss.” He called out again, “Your father has given me full authority to come into your room if the situation calls for it. If you don't come out now, I'll be heading in.”

“Don't you dare step your foot in here!” She gritted, “I'll be right there!”

She grabbed her laptops, and some books and shoved them into her backpack.

“That's all, right?” She muttered to herself, checking if she was forgetting something. “That's all.”

She went out the door only to find Arthur still standing there.

There and then, Ana decided she would get this of this good-looking man one way or the other. She would be a brat till he gets tired of her and quits.

The first step in doing that would be to be disrespectful to him.

She threw him her handbag and he caught it.

“Lead the way.” She commanded, folding her arms across her bosom.

She could have sworn she saw a smirk on the corner of Arthur's lips but she wasn't sure as it disappeared as soon as it came.

“Yes, ma'am,” Arthur responded and began to walk down the hallway.

They reached the garage filled with cars and Arthur unlocked the white one.

Arthur made to get in when Ana stopped him.

“Aren't you gonna open the door for me?” She demanded, “If you're employed by my father as my bodyguard, these are the things, you should be doing,” She tilted her head to the side, obviously enjoying the moment, “Don't you think?”

Arthur adjusted his spectacles and stared at Ana with an impassive expression.

Ana pointed her chin at him.

This is just the beginning. She thought. You wanna be my bodyguard, huh? I give you one week!

“Yes, ma'am,” Arthur replied opening the back door for her.

She stepped into the car and Arthur shut the door.

A few minutes later they were driving to college.

“Turn on the music,” She ordered.

Arthur stared at her from the rearview mirror, said nothing then put the music on.

“I don't like this one,” Ana snapped, “Change it.”

Arthur did as he was told.

“Change it.”

Arthur did.

“Change it.”

Arthur did.

“Ugh! Don't you have good music here? Change it.”

“I know what you're doing.” Arthur said calmly, “You think that by being annoying and totally rude to me, I will quit, don't you?”

“Well, at least I know you're not dumb,” Ana retorted.

“I won't quit, Miss Smith.” Arthur ignored her retort, “I signed a contract that makes you my full responsibility, and starting from today, you Miss, are my full responsibility.”

Ana's heart jolted at the last statement.

Fuck it! Why did I think he sounded so hot right now? She wondered. Something must be wrong with me.

The car plunged into silence and it didn't take long before they reached the college.

Arthur parked at the parking lot and Ana stepped out. Arthur did the same.

“Don’t tell me you're actually thinking of following me to class, are you?

“Yes, I am.” Arthur nodded, “Like I said, you're my full responsibility. Wherever you go, I go.”

Ana's eyes widened, “You must be kidding me!”

The sharp knock through the door instantly awoke Lincoln. He groaned, stirred around and then opened his eyes. The sunlight that shone through the window, casting its rectangular hues into the room practically blinded him and he shut his eyes. The knock came again.“Bro, are you still asleep?”Lincoln sat up and then opened the door.Rahim stood in the doorway, dressed in a dark suit as usual, “Morning. Your father requests your presence at the dining hall.”“I'll be right there.” Lincoln turned and headed into the bathroom, then splashed some water on his face.He found his family in the dining hall, having their breakfast. His sister, Ana was on her phone, texting and eating simultaneously. His father was reading the newspaper with a satisfied smirk on his face. Obviously, he was reading about the engagement held yesterday. “What happened back there?” Harry demanded angrily, “Why did you run off like that back at the party?”The living room was filled with suppressive tension. By the side was Tessa, and by the door was Rahim, Lincoln stood in front of his father, Harry, with his gaze held to the ground.“I asked you a question, Lincoln!” He barked, “Why did you run off like that? And I noticed that throughout the whole event, you looked like your mind was elsewhere.”Lincoln hesitated, swallowing the lump in his throat, not knowing how to answer the question. He knew his father wasn't asking because he worried about his health, he was asking because he had nearly ruined the engagement party and if he had, his reputation would be smeared… that was all he cared about. If he told him he had a panic attack, would he even believe it? No, would he even care?He glanced over at his mother who immediately came to his rescue.“He um… he had a panic attack.” Tessa stepped in, “He had a panic attack.”Harry frowned

Ethan shoved his tongue down his throat, exploring the inside of his warm mouth. The approaching footsteps jolted Lincoln back to reality and without a thought, he quickly pulled away and then shoved Ethan away so hard that he staggered backward, lost his balance and then landed on the floor.“Oh my God! I'm so sorry!” He apologized, breathlessly, “I'm so sorry!”Then he dashed out of the restroom. On his way out, he bumped into Mark, Ethan's assistant.“My apologies.” He mumbled, darting into the hall.Ana appeared out of nowhere and linked their arms together.“Hey, where have you been?” She enquired looking up at him, “Your bride and Dad have been searching for you. She ran to him and squatted beside him, “Dear, are you okay?” She enquired worriedly but Lincoln was still finding it hard to breathe, “Oh my God!”She pulled Lincoln's head to her bosom and began to pat his back, “It's okay dear. • The Way He Looks At Me    Panic Attack

Immaculately dressed in a suit, Lincoln stood stiffly by the door and greeted guests as they arrived.“Hi, thanks for coming.”His legs were now feeling a bit wobbly and his lips were now acting from the fake smile. His father had forced him to stand here and greet guests… or rather his business partners, and that was what he had been doing for the past hours. The guests seemed to never end and saying he was tired was an understatement.Rahim appeared out of nowhere, “They've arrived.” He announced. “Your family is coming.”As if on cue, Lincoln's parents, alongside Ana, came out of the grand hall and stood in the doorway. Two cars pulled over and then the Burns family stepped out. Ethan Burns slowly opened his eyes, expecting to see his Pudding… the cute dude he had spent the night with, but to his surprise, he wasn't there.“Huh?” He muttered in surprise, sitting up on the bed. He shook his head and stared around the room. There was no sign of a single being. His eyes darted to the floor and when he saw that the guy's clothes weren't there any longer, he instantly realized that the guy had left.He sighed, relaxing back on the bed.He has to admit that he was a bit sad that the guy left without waking him up or at least letting him know his name.He had hoped that they would work something out.Something on the bed stand caught his eyes and he leaned forward and took the two pieces of paper. One was a cheque while the other was an ordinary piece of paper with beautifully written words. He stared at the name on the cheque.“Billie Hayes?” He blurted out to himself, “Is that his name? His mother, Ana, and most especially his father.“I guess… I've… always been?”Another silence.“Mom, please… say something.” Lincoln pleaded, “Anything.
