Chapter 4

Autor: Triple Threat
Tyler's POV

I got up to return home after having lunch.

Yvonne hurried out to see me off. While we were in the elevator, she suddenly said, "Mom didn't do it on purpose, Tyler."

I asked, "What do you mean?"

Yvonne remained silent for a moment before replying, "Mom didn't mean to have Harry call her 'Mom'."

I smiled faintly, lifting my hands to examine them repeatedly. "Your mother praised me for being a good guy the first time she met me, saying that I was tactful and looked as though I had never endured hardship.

"After that, whenever I went to your place, as soon as I sat down, your mother would instruct me to assist in the kitchen. Over the past seven years, I have washed the dishes at your place 78 times. But during lunch just now, your mother wouldn't even let Harry pour a glass of water."

Yvonne's expression shifted slightly. "Harry is a guest here, Tyler."

"So she just allows their guest to call her 'Mom', huh?"

Yvonne fell silent.

I asked again, "Whose idea was it to bring me wedding favors?"

Yvonne was stunned. "It was Harry's idea to share some of the wedding bliss with you."

"You didn't stop him from doing that even though you knew it would be bad for couples who are about to get married?"

"I didn't think that much about it…"

I smiled faintly again. I had heard those exact words from Yvonne countless times during the past seven years.

I remembered it happening during my birthday. When she missed it, she said, "I was too busy with work. I didn't think that much about it."

For our anniversary, Yvonne gave me the exact same watch she got for Harry and said, "It's just the same brand. I didn't think that much about it."

Even when she proposed to me, she bought a ring that was one size too big. Then, she said, "I don't keep track of these small details. I didn't think that much about it."

I couldn't tell if she genuinely hadn't thought things through, but at this point, I couldn't even be bothered to care. I merely said, "If you're having second thoughts about marrying me, it's not too late to change your mind, Yvonne."

Yvonne's expression instantly shifted, becoming completely serious. She grabbed my wrist hard with her left hand, exclaiming, "You'd better not spout such nonsense, Tyler! We've been together for seven years! Who else are you going to marry if not me?

"If you don't like the wedding favors, I'll throw them out. I really don't like what you just said, though, so you'd better take it back!"

I merely smiled faintly as I looked at her rare display of anger. "Got it."

I stepped out of the elevator and walked away, leaving her behind.

I shipped the last piece of luggage from our marital home back to my hometown that very night. I had just sent a photo to Ruben when Yvonne suddenly messaged me.

"You're not still upset with me, are you, Tyler? I've already spoken to Mom, so she won't ask you to wash the dishes anymore."

I didn't reply to her message.

Yvonne sent me another message. "There are only 12 hours to go before the wedding. Are you looking forward to it, Tyler?"

I sat in the middle of the empty living room, a space completely devoid of any festive atmosphere. I hesitated for a moment but ultimately chose not to respond.

Ruben forwarded a news article to me, exclaiming, "Those cheating bastards! How dare they? You've got to take a look at this right now, Tyler!"

I clicked on the link and found out that it was a local news article from Alveria. "The Wedding of the Century for the Caldorian Couple—Bride Claims, 'True Love Is Priceless'."

In the article, the reporter went on at great length, using a full two thousand words to describe Yvonne and Harry's wedding. There was also a video of Yvonne being interviewed by the reporter.

The reporter asked, "Why did you choose to have the wedding in Alveria?"

Yvonne replied, "It's because my husband wanted it."

I downloaded the news article on my phone, then opened my chat with Yvonne and replied, "I'm looking forward to it."

After sending that message, I slipped off my engagement ring and placed it on the coffee table. Yvonne's laptop was right beside it. I moved the mouse, clicked on the link Ruben shared with me, and left the news article on Yvonne and Harry's wedding open in the browser.

Then I took one last look at the room, turned off the lights, and walked out.

Ruben was already waiting downstairs in his car. "Where do you want to go, Tyler?"

I replied, "The airport."

I didn't look back as Ruben drove us out of the neighborhood. I switched my phone to silent and mentally bid goodbye to my seven-year relationship.

Third-Person POV

It was 8:00 am the following morning when Yvonne showed up at her and Tyler's marital home with Harry and several of the Mullen family's relatives.

The moment they pushed the door open, they were all dumbfounded.

  • The Wedding's Ready, but My Bride Isn't   Chapter 14

Tyler's POVI didn't spend the night before the wedding personally taking care of every detail until dawn like I had the last time.Wanda cared about the wedding even more than I did. She went with me to choose the flowers, took the initiative to drag me to fittings, and verified the guest list repeatedly. She even earnestly asked for my opinion on the invitation font to make sure I liked it.I smiled and teased her for caring about even the smallest details.Yvonne merely said, "You ought to know that a wedding isn't just about going through the motions. It's me showing everyone that I truly treasure you, Tyler."It was a beautiful day during our wedding. I was standing in front of the altar in my wedding suit.Ruben was an absolute emotional wreck as he sat among the guests. He wiped at his tears while mouthing to me, "You deserve this, Tyler."I smiled as I nodded. It was then that the officiant turned to Wanda and asked, "Do you, Wanda Zachman, take Tyler Wright to be your

Tyler's POVI was somewhat taken aback. "I've only just joined the company, Ms. Zachman.""What of it?" Wanda asked as she looked calmly at me. "If someone has the ability, they deserve the opportunity—experience alone doesn't decide everything."I suddenly felt a lump in my throat at that moment. I finally realized what it felt like to be respected. It wasn't being dismissed with a careless "up to you". It wasn't being told to go wash dishes in the kitchen. It wasn't voicing your needs just to have someone say, "You're being ridiculous."It meant having someone actually recognize you—recognize your competence, your choices, and you as a whole person. It all happened in a flash. It went so fast that by the time I thought about Yvonne again, the heartache was gone. I caught wind of her through mutual friends once in a while. They said things between her and Harry had completely blown up.Yvonne had covered most of the expenses for the wedding in Alveria—the diamond rings, wedding

  • The Wedding's Ready, but My Bride Isn't   Chapter 12

Tyler's POVI chose not to respond anymore because the evidence spoke for itself. I knew that a genuinely powerful retaliation didn't require crying or shouting. It just required laying out the truth for everyone to see.Yvonne soon posted a lengthy apology on her social media. She described herself as stupid, selfish, and weak. She expressed regret for my seven years of commitment and stated that the wedding in Alveria was the greatest mistake of her life. She admitted that I had never let her down and that she was the one who personally ruined our relationship. Her apology didn't win over the netizens, though."An apology doesn't undo anything.""You aren't sorry because you know you're wrong; you're sorry because you know you're screwed.""He's been through enough already, so stop dragging him into this mess.""Your belated affection is worth absolutely nothing."Harry, however, refused to admit his mistake. He went on a live stream to cry, claiming he wasn't the homewreck

  • The Wedding's Ready, but My Bride Isn't   Chapter 11

Tyler's POVYvonne said, "I'm begging you, Tyler. We've been together for seven years. I mean, we only get so many years in this life."I merely looked at her. I had asked myself that exact question countless times before. I had struggled to let go precisely because it had been seven years. I chose to tolerate it a bit longer because it had been seven years. I believed she would change for the better because it had been seven years. I finally realized, however, that I shouldn't keep hurting myself for the sake of those seven years. Those seven years were simply proof that I was cutting my losses before it was too late.I stated flatly, "It's precisely because a person only has so many years in life that I won't waste my next seven years on you, Yvonne."Yvonne's face turned deathly pale.I walked right past her.Yvonne suddenly threw her arms around me from behind, speaking through her tears. "Please don't leave me, Tyler! Please don't abandon me! I'll cut Harry off compl

  • The Wedding's Ready, but My Bride Isn't   Chapter 10

Tyler's POVYvonne continued, "I'll focus entirely on you from now on. You and I can still register our marriage just like we had planned and go on living our lives as usual. I'll definitely make it up to you, Tyler."I looked at her, and a sudden wave of absurdity hit me. "Do you honestly still think that my only concern is whether you officially marry me in the end, Yvonne?"Yvonne was stunned. "Isn't it?"I smiled faintly and replied, "Of course not."I took my phone out of my pocket and opened the spreadsheet. "I have a few questions for you."Yvonne stared at the screen, her expression gradually shifting.I said, "I spent the entire night waiting for you on my 25th birthday, and you told me you had to work overtime at the last minute. Where did you actually go, Yvonne?"Yvonne's lips parted slightly. "I—""You'd better be honest with me."Yvonne lowered her gaze and said, "I went to the movies with Harry.""Why?""Harry was in a bad mood that day."I nodded and struck

  • The Wedding's Ready, but My Bride Isn't   Chapter 9

Tyler's POVYvonne looked down at the engagement ring in her palm and said tremblingly, "Tyler returned the engagement ring to me, so he definitely doesn't want me anymore."The video came to an end right at that point.Ruben sent me a message then. "That felt so vindicating! Do you really not plan to set things straight with Yvonne, Tyler?"I stared at my phone for a long time before replying, "It's not necessary."It wasn't a matter of having nothing to say after being together for seven years. It was simply that I had already said everything that needed to be said over the course of endless disappointments. Yvonne never listened to anything I said, so I decided not to say anything more.…I slept for ten hours straight on the first day after the wedding was canceled. I woke up to the sunlight shining on the foot of the bed.Mom sat beside me, peeling an apple for me. She didn't ask why I had suddenly come home. She didn't ask why the wedding was called off, either. She sim
