Reina’s POV

I never wanted this to happen again, but the king brought back old memories, insisting he wants to choose the most eligible husband for me.

Julian or Calder?

Today they were going to fight. They would showcase their skill and whoever wins would get me. But I’d always been rooting for Julian.

The arena was quiet. Too quiet.

My heart thudded in my chest as I sat beside my royal maid, eyes locked on the two men in the middle of the stone circle.

Julian and Calder.

My father sat proudly at the front, chin high, believing this would be the end of everything—of Julian, of the rumors, of the love he didn’t know had already gone too deep to erase.

He thought Calder would win. He was sure Julian would fall.

But I knew better.

Julian stood calm, focused, dressed in black. His eyes never left Calder’s wolf.

Calder had shifted, his Alpha wolf large and dark, circling with slow, threatening steps.

And still, Julian hadn’t shifted. Not yet.

Julian’s POV Even as a child, this was evil. I’d thought the king was always overshadowed with morals and could do no wrong as we were taught in school but hearing this got me totally pissed. I wished at that very moment, I had supernatural powers, I would command thunder to strike him. It was the only revenge I could think of as a little child. “How can I do this, my king?” My dad retorted, asking in a pleading tone. “Xeno is my closest friend.” “Yes, I know. That’s why I’m asking you to betray him.” “I didn’t really get why you asked me to buy all his shares.” Even my dad was confused. The king laughed some kind of a wild, sinister laughter. My blood was boiling in here where I hid. I was still a small child with no wolf lest they would have detected my scent. One advantage I got. “This is why I need you to buy all his shares. Normally, CEOs prohibit the selling of over half their shares to a particular man, they love a regular distribution among shareholders such that no one g

Reina’s POV “That traitor,” he said, his voice low, “was Julian.” My knees nearly buckled. “I don’t understand,” I said. “If he was part of it… why didn’t you have him executed?” “Because he made a deal,” the King said. “He had all the secrets. He knew every step of the plan. Every name. Every hiding place. We were left with no choice.” I shook my head slowly, mouth dry. “You… forced him to work for you?” “Yes,” he said. “He was given two choices—death, or help us find the others.” “And he chose to help you,” I whispered. He nodded once. “With Julian’s help, we took them down one by one. Every rebel. Every threat. Gone. The coup was crushed before it even began.” My body was trembling. My breath came in short gasps. The Julian I knew—the man I had kissed, argued with, loved—was a traitor’s son. A prisoner. A weapon used by the royal court. “Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked. “Because he begged us not to,” the King replied. “He didn’t want you to hate him. He w

Reina’s POVI thought the worst was over. I thought I could move on. But I was wrong. The pain didn’t stop. It got worse.Every day, I woke up feeling like I was falling apart. My chest was tight, my skin cold, my head heavy. But it wasn’t just sadness. It was deeper than that—something I couldn’t explain. At night, it became unbearable.I broke down.I cried until my throat burned. My hands shook as I gripped the blankets, trying to hold myself together. My wolf—my other half—screamed inside me, wild and restless. She howled through the bond, crying out for him. For Julian. He never answered. No matter how loud I cried, he never came. The pain kept growing. Then one morning, I felt it. Heat. Not the kind that warmed the skin. No, this was different. Fierce. Burning. Suddenly. It rushed through me like fire. My legs gave out. I collapsed to the floor, gasping for air, my body trembling.A maid found me like that—curled up, sweating, barely able to speak. They called the palace doctor

Reina’s POVI slammed the door shut behind me, breathing hard. My chest felt like it had been torn open, raw and aching. I didn’t care if anyone saw the tears in my eyes. Let them see. Let them talk. I was done pretending.Julian had broken me.I sank to the cold stone floor of my room, hugging my knees. My heart wouldn’t stop pounding. The things he said—how easily he threw everything away—kept playing in my head over and over like a curse. Was I really just a mission to him? A pawn? Had I fallen in love with someone who never truly saw me?I didn’t leave my room for days. I couldn’t. Every time I reached for the door, my hand froze. Every time I looked in the mirror, I saw a girl who had believed too much, hoped too much. A fool.Food sat untouched on the tray by the door. Maids whispered outside, wondering what was wrong. But no one came in. No one dared. The ache in my chest grew worse by the day. Nights were the hardest. I’d sit by the window, looking out at the moonlight, wonder
