Reina POV

His touch still lingered on my skin long after he had pulled away from me last night. I could not stop thinking about it. The way his voice softened when he comforted me during my nightmare, the way his strong hands had steadied me as if I was the most fragile thing in the world—those memories haunted me.

I sat on the edge of the bed, hugging my knees, my mind a storm of questions. For so long, I had feared him, hated him, told myself that all I wanted was to escape. But now? My heart no longer trembled in his presence. My chest no longer burned with anger each time I heard his footsteps. Instead, I found myself listening for him, waiting for his shadow to appear in the doorway, longing for his deep voice to fill the silence.

It was confusing. It was dangerous. But it was real.

When the door opened, my body reacted before my mind caught up. My chest leapt, my lips parted. The masked man stepped inside, tall and steady as always, a plate of food in one hand.

Julian’s POVThe palace was quiet that night, though I knew enemies waited beyond its walls and traitors still sat in the dungeons. I should have been thinking about them, about the council and the threats that still surrounded us, but all I could think of was Reina. She lay across our bed, her hair spread over the pillow, her body glowing with the faint swell of pregnancy. I watched her, feeling the strange mix of pride and worry that had followed me since the day I learned she carried my child. She turned her head, her eyes meeting mine. There was a softness in them, but also heat. I knew that look.“Julian,” she said quietly, her voice low, almost shy.“Yes, my love?” I asked, moving closer. She bit her lip before speaking. “It feels strange, but ever since I became pregnant, my desire has been stronger. I can’t hide it anymore. I want you.”Her words sent a rush through me. I had seen her glow, I had felt her warmth, but hearing her admit it made my chest tighten and my body burn

Reina’s POVI never thought pregnancy would feel like this. Some days I woke with so much energy that I wanted to walk around the palace gardens, other days I could not even rise from bed without groaning. My body no longer felt fully mine. My back ached, my feet swelled, and the smallest scent of food made me crave or gag.Julian tried to hide his worry, but I saw it in his eyes every time he looked at me. He wanted to rule with the same fire he had shown against Calder and the council, but whenever he saw me struggling, that fire softened into something else—fear, love, protectiveness. One evening, after a long day of council meetings, I sat in our chamber with my hands resting on my stomach. It was not very big yet, but it was enough for me to feel the weight. My lower back throbbed, and I shifted uncomfortably.Julian entered quietly. He set aside the heavy cloak of authority he wore all day, leaving only the man I loved standing before me. He came closer, his gaze dropping at onc

Reina’s POVThe palace had grown too heavy for me. Every corner carried whispers of betrayal, every hallway reminded me of Ken’s attempt on Julian’s life. My chest still ached when I thought of it. If that servant had not walked in, Julian would have eaten the poisoned meal. The thought alone tightened my throat until I could hardly breathe. It's only been days since I managed to miraculously bring him back to life, and Ken, a stranger I willingly took in without any info on him, wanted to poison Julian yet again. As if my father being in a coma wasn't enough, the weight of everything on my neck was pressing on me,Julian was the only one there for me and a mere stranger wanted his life to end. That night, when the council had been dismissed and the guards were posted at their doors, I found Julian sitting by the window of our chamber. His shoulders were tense, his head bent slightly as though the weight of the world pressed down on him.I closed the door quietly behind me. “Julian,” I w

Third POVThe palace halls of Lucien Green were quiet, but not peaceful. The air carried tension, like a storm waiting to break. Guards stood tall at every corner, their eyes sharp, their hands tight on their spears. Word had already spread that Calder had been caught sneaking into the royal herbal garden, and Julian himself had delivered the beating that left the Northern Ridge prince broken and bloodied. He was now in the darkest dungeon of all. While Julian dealt with the matter, another danger crept silently within the palace walls.Ken walked slowly along the servant passage, a tray in his hands. His advisor’s robes brushed against the stone floor, and his face showed calm, but his eyes held something darker. On the tray sat a silver bowl of broth, steaming with rich herbs. The dish was meant for Julian, who had returned from the garden with his knuckles bruised and his spirit still burning with anger.Ken moved with steady steps, but inside his heart raced. He had slipped a smal

Third POVThe night was heavy with silence as Calder moved through the shadows of Lucien Green. A hood covered his head, and dirt smeared his face, hiding the sharp lines of the Northern Ridge prince. He had abandoned his royal robes for rough, torn clothes that made him look like a wandering trader. The disguise was far from perfect, but it was the only way he could pass through the borders without raising an alarm. He had waited days for Ken to bring him news, but nothing had come. His father’s condition grew worse with each passing hour. The healers whispered that death was near, and Calder’s chest tightened with panic. He could not wait any longer. If no one would help him, he would take the herb himself. The moon hung low, its silver light spilling across the forest path. Calder’s boots pressed into the soil as he moved carefully, every sense sharpened. He had studied the maps Ken once shared, and he knew the path to the royal herbal garden. Still, his heart pounded fast. If he w

Third POVCalder sat alone in the dark, his eyes fixed on the burning torchlight that flickered against the stone walls. His father’s shallow breathing still echoed in his ears from earlier, a haunting sound he could not escape. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw the king trembling and twisting in pain. The image was eating him alive. He knew time was running out. The healer’s words rang again in his head: without the moonshade root, the king will not live.Calder leaned forward, resting his elbows on the long oak table. His hands clenched into fists. He hated the thought of bowing to Julian or Reina. But there was one of his men already inside Lucien Green, someone with enough power to make things possible—Ken.Ken had always been sly, clever, and ambitious. He had risen quickly in Reina’s circle, just as Calder had wanted, now sitting as her trusted advisor. Calder had not trusted him completely, but now, Ken might be his only chance. With trembling hands, Calder typed a coded me
