" Who the hell are you?" The crouched man demands. F--uck. How do I get out of this? Aller always reminded me to remain calm if I was caught during a job and play the dumb card. This technique always served me well in the past. People found me attractive, so I would always play off their lusts and sympathies to escape a compromised job. Somehow I don't think a Weston henchman would be gullible. Well doesn't hurt to try, does it? Men like this only think with one part of their body.
I cover my mouth and giggle, fluttering my eyelids at the intimidating blonde man."I'm just a girl taking a swim in the pool. Who are you?" The man's face morphs into a terrifying glare, his arms shooting out and grabbing my body out of the pool. "Don't play with me, girl! Do you know who's estate this is or who I am? I'm Evander Weston, son of Noe Weston-the boss of the Weston Syndicate! In case you haven't gathered, you are trespassing on Weston Territory!" My heart flutters at his revelation. Fuck! Of all the syndicate henchman to run across, I had to cross Weston's son? Before I can think of a reply, Evander grabs a gun from one of the men, aiming it at my head. "Now I'll ask again, who are you?"I take several steadying breaths. I can't afford to show fear. Right now, my best option is to play the naive girl act. There was no other logical way out of this mess."I'm sorry. I just moved here, and I thought this was the community pool. Although come to think of it-it is rather nice for a neighborhood pool." I peek at Evander through my lashes, adding a quiver of my lips and forcing tears to fall. "I was hot after unpacking crates all day! Please! I was desperate and jumped in the first pool I saw. Please, please don't kill me!" The fake tears work their magic on Evander. He lets out a frustrated sigh and hands the gun back to its owner. His eyes soften, "In the future, if a pool is surrounded by a fence, it is off-limits. I don't know how it works where you're from, but here we aren't chummy with our neighbors."I bow my head and rapidly nod. "Of course! It won't happen again! Is there any way I can borrow a towel? I just want to dry off quickly." A foreign expression passes over the younger Weston's face. He betrays a motive in his eyes, something promising to be far sinister than being yelled at for taking a dip in his pool. On queue, his portable device sings, signaling an incoming transmission. Evander pulls out the square object, a smile spreading at the name on the screen. . A guard hands me a fluffy towel, throwing it on my head. "You got lucky, miss. Noe Weston takes no prisoners. He is ruthless, and you are fortunate you will retain your meager life." I ignore his contempt, rubbing the towel through my wet locks."Yes, father. She is. We are coming in at once." Evander signals to a group of henchmen. "Grab her and bring her to the main room. Father is asking for her." I furrow my eyebrows. Noe Weston wants to meet me? Why? The way Evander phrased it sounded like the syndicate boss was expecting my arrival. "Why does he need to see me?""Going to keep playing your game, love?" Evander winks. "Alright. Just to let you know, we already know who you are. I'll let father explain."Someone roughly pushes me towards the side door. "Hey, That hurt!" I snarl, glaring at the offending man as I walk through the door. He snickers and shrugs his shoulders. What an ass! I ignore him and follow a small group down the hall that leads to a large glasshouse. We walk into a spacious modern room with luxurious chairs and couches strewn around the room. Completing the ridiculousness of this space is a small pool with a waterfall cascading into it.I roll my eyes at Weston's extravagant taste. I almost feel out of place with my wet jeans and t-shirt sopping the floor. Evander walks around the waterfall and towards an older man that strikes a similar appearance to him. This must be the famous Noe Weston. Unlike his son, his dark blonde hair was slicked back, and his hazel eyes held a cruel glint. He was impeccably dressed in a dark blue suit. "Father." Evander motions to me "Son." Noe nods. The syndicate boss turns his attention towards me, a radiant smile crossing his features. He greeted me like we were familiars. "Lara. It is a pleasure to finally meet."I scowl at his friendly greeting. What game was this android playing? "Weston. I don't believe we met. How do you know my name?"Noe and Evander laugh. "Dropping the act, I see?" Evander slaps my shoulder playfully."Leave." Noe waves his hand, dismissing everyone. "You too, Evander."Evander pouts at the potential torture he might miss. "But Father...""Leave! I will take it from here!" Noe's voice roars through the spacious room, his voice echoing throughout. Evander mumbles as he walks out to the patio."Sit," Noe commands. I sit on the edge of an armchair, tensing my muscles in case I get the chance to escape. Noe Weston sits at the table in front of me, studying my reaction. "WOW, "I reply, referring to his luxurious home."You act like you haven't seen an android residence before. I know that isn't true, Lara. How long have you been a thief? Ten years?" Noe's knees touch mine. I try to keep my composure. The man had done his homework on me. It was a common interrogation tactic used by the syndicate, criminals, and police to get their subject to crack. I couldn't show my fear and find out why the Weston boss wanted me here.Noe's face breaks into a shit-eating grin. "I'll save you from asking the obvious, Lara. Your job- to steal one of my art pieces for a rival syndicate was a set-up. The truth is we met years ago, during a gala your boss-Aller asked you to recon. The minute I saw you, I was captivated by you. Your beauty, your intelligence, gods above, you captured my attention. I contacted Aller after the Gala and inquired about you. I knew after that night I had found my Queen. Over the years, I kept watch over you and fell under your spell further. I couldn't wait any longer, so I contacted Aller a week ago to purchase your contract. The man was more than happy to let you part for a generous amount." Goosebumps appear on my arms at his story. This man was a stalker and what is worse is the thought of me as his possession. He pours something from a glass bottle into a tumbler, handing it to me."I didn't poison it." He declared as he took a swig from glass. "See?"" How is a drink supposed to help? You just told me I was bought against my will and that I'm your Queen. We don't know each other, Mr. Weston! All I know is that I'm a human, and you are a high-level android! Furthermore, I have no interest in your world, least of all being your Queen!" I was screaming at this point, but I didn't care. No one would come in here and interrupt me since apparently, I was special to Noe Weston.Noe wraps his hands around each other, touching his fingertips."Well, I am a generous man, my dear Lara. So I will give you time to adjust to the idea of being mine. However, you will be the end of the month be warming my bed as my lover and wife."Gag. Me. What did I just walk into?! "Screw you." I spit at the gloating man. "I rather die than fuck you.""But you will, baby." Noe leans down until his lips are next to my ear. " Don't worry, I will keep you busy with assignments until that time. And as for screwing?" Noe bites my earlobe. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, baby. All good things in time. Now shall we get you prepared for your living quarters?"Two guards follow behind Noe and me as we walk up a winding staircase to the second floor. Unlike the first floor, the second contained hallways on either side of the landing. Noe turns to the right and walks into the first room. I follow at his heels, stopping short when I realize what the room is for. "No." I try to exit, but the two guards create an impenetrable wall behind me. Noe wraps his arms around me, pulling me towards the center of the room. "You don't have a choice."My eyes widen in fear at the sight of the colorless medical capsule in front of me. It reminded me of a cocoon or a hammock. Still, instead of soft fabric enveloping me, hard gray plastic would surround me. Standing next to the capsule is a striking female. She was tall, with shiny purple hair. Her golden skin glowed under the fluorescent lights. "Theta. She's here." Noe gruffly announces. The female turns and nods. She was a young Teril that was certain. What she was doing in the employ of the Wes
"Umm, what?" I raise an eyebrow at Noe. "I'm not going to your gala if that is what you're implying." "I beg to differ." Noe steps closer to me. "You are my fiancee, and I will present you as such." I bark out a laugh. "Please! Didn't you just finish insulting my humanity? Thought you didn't want a weak human Queen?" Noe grits his teeth. "That is not what I meant, Lara. Please don't twist my words! I am only trying to protect you! Do you know how many enemies I have? What they would do when they discover I have a human weakness?" He sits down on the edge of the bed. A snicker escapes my lips."Well then, forgive me. Here I thought a man like you wants a woman as a trophy." Noe's eyes trail over my body, a sharp glint appearing in his eyes. "
"Be on your best behavior, Miss Lara. I know you humans can resort cave to your basic...needs." Odessa looks down at me. What the hell is this android's problem with humans? "Are you implying I am a Neanderthal?" I wrap my hand around her arm, pulling us to the side of an entrance. "No! Of course not. Merely that you humans can act like humans. It's not your fault. You can't help your urges." Odessa gives me a small smile. I swallow the snark that dares fall out of my mouth and just mirror her smile. "Very well." "We are almost there. Come." Odessa walks around to the entrance and through tall white curtains. "The Esteemed Westons would like to welcome you to their annual gala benefitting the humans of Saratoga. All proceeds from tonight will be distributed evenly to human crisis centers. Please grab a mask from a nearby server and enjoy your evening
"SHIT!" I scream as I rattle the handcuffs. I hated being restrained! Panic forms in my chest, and I start gasping for breath. Everything starts to close in. Memories of being shackled to a bed resurface. Aller would chain me up when I disobeyed him or didn't give him a cut of my stolen earnings. He would keep me in the room for days, shackled to a bed in the dark with a pot if I needed to relieve myself. My only friends, Fiona and Adrian, would sneak in with food and company. They were my calm in that raging pit. I focus on my childhood friends, concentrating on their features, their voices, and their laughs. Finally, my breathing begins to slow, and the pressure in my chest disappears.I take another deep breath before focusing on my restraints. I shift my wrists around the cuffs, feeling for any empty space between my skin and the cold metal. My right cuff gave a little when I kept pushing my wrist against it. I turn my wrist, spreading my fingers out. I slowly move my
A ticklish sensation spreads through my arm. I groan, waving my arm, trying to slap away whatever was touching me. The tickling only intensifies with my jerky movement. "STOP!" I mumble into the pillow. The tickling stops but is quickly replaced by a sharp shock. "Oww!" I shoot out of bed. Alarmed, I look around my empty room, trying to find the source of my annoyance. "Next time you ignore me, I will do much worse!" A voice crackles from above. My eyes land on my target, a security camera with an outstretched rod. How the hell did that thing tickles and shock me? Gods androids had too much time on their hands! Throwing the duvet off my body, I stomp in full view of the camera. "Is that really necessary? Watching me while I sleep!?" I raise a finger to the camera in a crude gesture."Can't be too sure with you. Remember, I fished you out of my pool. Go to your tablet; I have your assignment for the day."I dramatically roll my eyes as I make my way to the small tablet. A n
* Cough *Cough*I take in a deep breath, only to inhale thick dust. My body is screaming in pain. I groaned, trying to buck a piece of steel pipe off, but I almost passed out from the pain when I stretched my right leg. Fantastic. Now I will be at Weston's mercy. I look around for a makeshift crutch. Yahtzee! A thin rod pokes out of the rubble next to me. I gently pull it out of the wreckage, wedging it between two solid pieces of iron. I shift my weight on the steel pipe, wincing as I pull my weight on my left side. Once I am standing, I look around the messy warehouse. "YOU!" Darla's shrill voice calls. The dark-skinned woman glares at me. How can this woman look so meticulous in a pile of rubble? "Get up, bitch!" I hold my hands up, signaling to the android I am unarmed. "What are you on about, Darla?" I demand."Oh! You think it's a coincidence that one of my buildings happened to explode with your arrival?" Darla pointed her finger at me. "Darla, I had nothing t
When Evander greets the car escort at the front of the Weston Mansion, Noe's tender gaze disappears. "Get out of me!" he growls, pushing me roughly into the footwell. "OW!" What is his deal? He was the definition of hot and cold! I glare at him as he opens the back door. "Get her to Theta! I can't have her broken." He commands Evander as he pushes past him and answers a call. Evander's eyes snap to my disheveled state. "What happened to you?" His smirk turns to a sneer. Guess I'm not getting any sympathy from the younger Weston. "Nothing much, explosion, rubble fell down on me broke my leg, no biggie. How was your day?" I scoot across the bench, reaching the door Evander is blocking. "Could you..." I wave my arm in a shoo gesture. He curses at me, bending down and scooping me up. I let out a startled grunt, wrapping my arms around his neck. "Try to keep the noise down. I don't want anyone to s
Three days. Three days of being shut down in this mansion, and I'm done. I've never been one to stay still. It's why I make a great thief. I have gotten excellent at running. This place...was no better than the white lab I grew up in. I was one of the human children that were not born naturally. I was conceived in a test tube, a result of Terils mixing DNA for the "ultimate human." Guess they failed, considering I didn't pass the android assessment. The difference between my two prisons was the aesthetic. The Weston Mansion had amusements that distracted me, but it was still not better than being confined in a white room. In both chambers, I was an asset to be used as they saw fit. I hear the familiar heavy footsteps of the guards outside my door. Ever since Abigail was dragged into my room, Noe has kept guards around my room 24/7. Proof that my fiancee didn't trust me at all. I wouldn't expect any less, considering I was making secret alliances with Darla and Theta behind hi
