Chapter 79

Halle Wilder

~•~

“Hey.” Ivy welcomed me with open arms as she answered the door. “How are you doing?” She asked as she moved to the side for me to walk past the door.

Before I could even say anything, she let out a loud gasp. “You packed a bag? Did something happen?” I didn’t miss the curiosity in her voice.

I let out a sigh. “Are your parents around?” I asked as my eyes scanned through the living room. I hadn’t been to Ivy’s house in a while but everywhere still looked the same.

It brought back certain memories.

“No, they aren’t at home.” Ivy closed the door and moved closer to me. “What happened? Why did you leave his house?”

A bitter scoff escaped my lips. “He chose his ex-girlfriend over me.”

Ivy’s eyes widened in shock. “What? Tell me that you are joking.”

“I wish I were joking,” I replied, dragging a hand down my hair.

As we settled down on the couch, Ivy’s face turned pale. “How did it go? How did the conversation happen?” She asked, crossing her legs over e

Chapter 80Lucien Thorne ~•~“Why are you so glommy?” Grimm nudged me on my side as he stood beside me. “You were bragging that it’s going to the the best party ever, but you aren’t even enjoying it.” How could I possibly enjoy myself when Halle wasn’t present? It had been three days since she left — the longest three days of my life. I couldn’t even focus on anything, I kept thinking about her. I always wondered if she was safe and always thought about what she was doing at the moment. Halle barely picked up my calls. We mostly spoke through Ivy and her response was short. I planned on picking her up the next morning after she left, but she made it clear that she wouldn’t return to the house. However, she gave me two options. It was either that I asked Madison to leave or that I told her the truth about why I couldn’t ask Madison to leave. And I couldn’t do either of them. I just had to live with the fact that my girlfriend was away from me, in another town where I didn’t ev

Chapter 78Lucien Thorne ~•~I hated the look on Halle’s face when I told her she could leave if she wanted to. She looked like I had broken her heart into a million tiny pieces. I wished I could handle everything differently. I wished I could give her what she wanted — ask Madison to leave the house. But my hands were tied. Madison was blackmailing me and I knew she wasn’t bluffing. I had no choice but to allow her to stay in the house just to protect my secret. As we stood there, I contemplated telling Halle about everything, but how could I even begin the conversation? At least, she wasn’t completely leaving me. It was just temporary. And I didn’t want her to leave but she didn’t want to stay either. She gave me an ultimatum but I couldn’t choose. She saw my silence as a choice. But she was wrong. I would never choose anyone over her. Especially not Madison. “I’m sorry,” I mumbled as she turned around to leave. I really didn’t want her to leave. As she walked downstairs

Chapter 77Halle Wilder ~•~“It’s not that simple?” I asked with a bitter scoff. “Who in their right mind would allow their ex to live under the same roof with them?” Lucien swallowed hard. “I don’t really have a choice.” My eyes widened. “What do you mean? You’re the fucking Alpha of your pack and you don’t have a choice? Madison has got you in a chokehold.” Without hesitation, he replied. “She doesn’t have me in a chokehold or anything. It’s just something I need to do. It’s temporary.” I honestly couldn’t believe Lucien. Did he still have feelings for her? Was he too scared to hurt her feelings that he had to agree for her to stay under his roof? With his new girlfriend? It didn’t make sense. Nothing he said would ever justify what he was doing. The worst part was that he was trying to change the narrative, saying she was also his childhood friend. He was trying to manipulate me into thinking that I didn’t have anything to worry about. But I wasn’t a fool. I wasn’t born y

Chapter 76Halle Wilder ~•~Lucien’s voice echoed through the quiet hallway. “Halle, please I didn’t mean to say something like that.” He apologized. I didn’t respond. I kept on walking. But I could feel him behind me. Shortly after, he grabbed my hand and turned me around. “Halle.” He growled and I flinched, my heart pounding in my chest. “Stop.” I froze. Why was he acting so authoritative when he was the one who offended me? “What?” I asked, my voice distant. He handed the bag over to me. But I refused to take it. “I’m sorry, I should have chosen my words wisely.” He apologized, his expression softening. “I didn’t mean to say something like that to you.”I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, right.” He took a few steps close to me and dropped the bag on the floor. “Halle, I was just under a lot of pressure and didn’t know when it left my mouth.” I let out a deep sigh, running my fingers through my hair. “It’s fine. You’ve just made it clear to me that I’m an opportunist.” “Come on, H

Chapter 75Lucien Thorne ~•~“Why did you just say that to her? Are you out of mind?” I gritted my teeth in annoyance. Madison knew exactly what she was doing when she referred to me as her boyfriend. As I watched Halle run off, I wanted to go after her. But I felt it would be better if I got rid of Madison before going to talk to her. “Duh! Because I want her to know that you’re taken.” She replied, her voice defensive. “I can’t just sit back and watch you move on with another girl.” I dragged a hand down my face in frustration. “You left, Madison. Do you have dementia or what? You rejected me to be with that guy.” “And I’m saying that it was a terrible mistake. I made a mistake and I want to make things right between us.” She replied, folding her arms around her chest. I couldn’t hold back a scoff. “You’re being delusional. You can’t just come back here and expect me to accept you with open arms.” I replied, my voice laced with disdain. “I need you to leave.” Madison shook he
