ROGER WILLIS
Mr. Lykaios’ suit was unsurprisingly larger on my slender frame giving me the much needed room for my newly patched wound to breathe. Given that buffer body of his, I felt lesser of a man somehow. I might have to start working out any time soon to at least be on par with the muscles.
The school nurse came back and told me I’m free to go. I was highly hoping that I’d spent the rest of my time at the clinic, that would be cool, but she told me to return to class which was an utter disappointment.
I went to my last period and everybody were staring at me as if there’s something wrong with my face. I may look a bit pale today but I’m aware of that. I know I’m still the new kid on the block but they already saw me yesterday. I have introduced myself multiple times throughout the day. They shouldn’t be acting like I just came here today.
After my last class, I bumped into Esmeralda on my way towards my locker.
“Oh hey, Roger.” She smiled recognizing me. She was still sporting that high ponytail that also highlighted one of the best parts of her face, her cheekbones.
“Hey,” Thankfully, I remembered her name. I’m not good at remembering names of people that I just met recently and the reason why I remembered hers was because of that beautiful pearly smile. So far, she’s the only girl that I’ve seen with that kind of bright smile.
“Why are you wearing a fucking suit?” She chuckled flipping her high pony.
“Because I looked good on them.” I effused feeling much rather confident in the suit that Mr. Lykaios lent me. “I looked good on them, right?”
“You do. You look hotter. You look a bit pale though.”
“Yeah, I’m a little bit under the weather today.” The confidence that I was feeling just a second ago suddenly vanished. I guess I still looked pretty much shitty.
“Aw, I hope you get better soon.”
“Thanks.”
“Uhm, listen, I’d love to have a longer chat with you but I still have to attend cheerleading practice.”
“Sure, see you around.”
“See ya later.”
Esmeralda went on her way as I resumed making my own way towards my locker. With the rushing crowd flooding the once empty hallways, I had to walk at the side with my wounded shoulder closer next to the wall so no one would accidentally bump into me. I might be feeling a lot better now yet still; I don’t want my wounds to bleed out once again.
I was silently fixing my stuff when Carmine Reid showed up out of the blue for the second time around.
“He got you, did he?” Leaning against the closed locker, she mumbled keeping her voice low enough for me to hear. I don’t know if she just talks this soft or if she was just purposely keeping her voice low. Perhaps, she’s shy around me.
“Hey, hi.” I did not expect that she’d come and talk to me again today. I looked shitty and she looked gorgeous as usual. “I’m sorry, who got me?”
“The rogue one.” She answered.
“I…” I was just about to open my mouth and speak up but then the words of Mr. Lykaios just echoed inside my head. “I don’t know what you are talking about.”
“You’re lying. I could smell it.”
“W-wha. You could smell me lying?”
“You’re not just stubborn, are you? You’re also stupid. I already warned you yesterday.”
“I…I.” I’m stuttering. I don’t even know what to say. I was looking at her beautiful angelic face but the way she talks to me was just distracting.
“I could smell your blood.” She sniffed around making me feel a little bit appalled and embarrassed at the very same time. “You smell like a rotting dog.” She slurred before eventually walking away from me.
“Hey, Carmine!” I called out for her name but she just kept on going. “Wait!” I quickly locked my locker and then rushed in order to follow her.
I was already beginning to think that she knows something. After my conversation with Mr. Lykaios a while ago, things are slowly starting to make sense, somehow. However, I only know very little of it and it’s not enough. I’m still jailed up in this room of confusion. Perhaps Carmine could answer some of my queries that Mr. Lykaios didn’t want to answer in the first place.
“CARMINE!!!!”
I rushed after Carmine but I had to be extra careful with my shoulder. I kept my eyes locked on Carmine’s red hair as she walked faster until she was finally out of the building. By the time I got outside, Carmine was nowhere to be seen. I turned my head left and right hoping to see her but I saw no sign of her. I walked further until I was at the open park. I kept on looking around and then my eyes accidentally caught a familiar guy standing right next to a tree. He had a long black hair and I thought he looked pretty much familiar. I might’ve seen him somewhere but I just can’t remember anything at all. He was just standing there like a statue with his cold eyes glued on me.
I looked away just to give myself some time to recall about where have I seen this guy. I eventually remembered he looked like the guy on the painting from Ysabella and Yoseff’s house. It’s their half-brother. I forgot what his name was but now that I was able to recognize him from that painting, he definitely got Ysabella and Yoseff’s nose and eyes.
I looked back at the tree and he was already gone. I walked towards the tree in search for him but he was absolutely nowhere to be seen.
I was just about to continue my search for Carmine when Ysabella suddenly showed up from behind.
“Hey, Roger!!” Ysabella called out smiling at me as if nothing happened between us.
“Ysabella.” My heart was pounding out of nervousness and awkwardness.
“Have you seen Benjie?” She asked.
“Nah, I haven’t seen him. Have you tried looking at the field?”
“Not yet.”
“He must be with Reggie and Yoseff.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” She turned around and was about to leave but she stopped and then turned back to face me again. “Hey, about what happened last night.”
“Er,”
“Uhm, I’m really sorry about that. I was just super drunk and I don’t even know what I was doing. I hope that thing stays between us.”
“Yeah, sure. I wasn’t planning on telling anyone about it anyway.” I volleyed back reassuring her about keeping what happened a deep secret.
“Thank you, Roger. You know, Benjie has some anger management issues and I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.”
“That’s good to know.” I nodded taking note of what she had just revealed. “Hey, I just have a question to ask you.”
“What is it?”
“It’s about your brother, I just thought I saw him earlier.”
“Yannick? In town? That’s impossible, he hasn’t been home in years.”
“Oh, really? Maybe it was someone else then.” Maybe I was wrong about that or maybe I was just seeing things again.
“Anyway, I have to go look for Benjie. See you again tomorrow.”
As soon as Ysabella walked away and was out of sight, I felt another surge of headache which was quickly followed by another fuzzy vision. I leaned against the tree trunk and waited until the moment passed which was surprisingly short-lived this time around.
Today was an absolute worst and I don’t think I could handle another episode of the headache and fuzzy vision. I ended up calling my dad to come and pick me up.
ROGER WILLISI couldn’t get myself to sleep at night and that’s mostly because I am locked in this claustrophobic prison of confusion. I couldn’t stop thinking about the conversation that I had with Mr. Lykaios at the clinic. He must be on crack or some shit when he mentioned those things about werewolves. What’s next? Witches and fairies? I don’t think so. I don’t intend on believing him at all. And then there’s Carmine Reid giving me these cryptic messages and she even said I smelled like a rotting dog. I know I didn’t take a shower yesterday because I was feeling awfully sick but those are very specific descriptions that I don’t think even matches how I smelled. In addition to all of that, I could hear my mom and dad arguing about the very same shit for the nth time. Their room was very far from my room and I’m sure the walls in this house are way thicker than what we had from our old house but I don’t understand why I could hear their voices. I thought we came here to start over a
ROGER WILLISMr. Lykaios was the first person I laid my eyes on when I finally woke up. I immediately knew we are not at the school clinic mainly because of the absence of the bright fluorescent light.“Where am I?” Waking up, the feeling was pretty much familiar. My body was aching as I felt extremely dehydrated. My throat felt lumpy and dry and my voice came out hoarse as if I had a long night of drinking. I tried propping myself up but the throbbing agony coming from my wound made things impossible.“Hey, hey, calm down, kid. You don’t have get up, just lay there and let me patch up your wounds again.” Mr. Lykaios rushed my side. In contrast to his imposing tone in class, his voice was now gentle though the commanding aura was still present.“My body hurts.” I groaned feeling the aching in every muscles of my body.“I took you home because I couldn’t risk to take you to the hospital.”“What happened?”I was trying to remember what just happened earlier and I’m sure as hell that I’m
ROGER WILLISIt was already nightfall when Mr. Lykaios drove me home and I was increasingly worried that my parents would question everything. I kept looking at myself on the side mirror and I noticed nothing happened to my face. Literally, I don’t see anything cut or broken. I’m pretty certain of the fact that Benjie got me real good with those hefty punches and I should probably have a broken nose, perhaps a black eye but I was more than shocked to see none of that shit. I’m not usually one lucky person per se. I have never won anything based on the random power of luck but I guess the lucky duckies were in favor of me today. I’m glad that Benjie didn’t manage to break my face because I didn’t have to think of a stupid lie about it. Also, I don’t want to become a whole ass laughing stock when I get to school tomorrow.Idris gave me his phone number strictly reminding me to call him in case anything happens. Honestly, I don’t know what to feel about it. Oddly enough, I felt so much s
ROGER WILLISI couldn’t stop thinking about Carmine Reid and her natural beauty and her beautiful red-hair and that cute smile. I haven’t seen anyone like her ever. She’s the type of girl that I like and while I’m at it, I was beginning to imagine going out with her. She’s a little bit reserved, more traditional than the other girls that I’ve met when I was still in Birmington and somehow, she’s also mysterious but I like it that way. I am highly enthralled to get to know here even better. Perhaps tomorrow I could ask her about the cryptic messages that she just told me a few days prior. I might be able to clear those with her.I know I just got a warning from whoever slipped that folded paper on the tree trunk earlier. I’m not entirely sure if it was the guy with the long black hair trying to tell me something or if it was just a random thing. I leaned towards the latter mainly because I don’t even know if that guy truly exist or if I was just seeing things that’s not actually real.
ROGER WILLISWhen I regained my consciousness back, I felt immensely exhausted most probably caused by the rush of adrenaline. That was something I wasn’t expecting at all. I managed to dash across the woods easily locating a shortcut but even then, it was already too late for me. My entire head was covered with a sack that awfully smelled like chicken dung. I couldn’t see a shit except for the dots of light coming from the miniscule holes of the sack. When I tried moving, I instantly found out that I’m restrained against a wall made out of wood. My hands and legs are chained on all four different directions limiting all of the movements that I could possibly make.“I-I think he’s already awake.” A voice stuttered from a distance. If I’m hearing it right, the voice was coming from Carmine but it sounded way too far from where I was being held captive.“Carmine, is that you? Carmine!!!!” I asked almost yelling at the top of my lungs yet my voice just echoed throughout the room. It seem
IDRIS LYKAIOSI was young as twelve when I first shifted form into the monster that I am now. Although my first full moon was just as typical as any other, my father had a different belief secretly influenced by his hunger for power. For a long while, he believed that I was innately special only because I shifted shape way to early than a normal werewolf would. Normally, wolfborns like us don’t shapeshift until we reach our seventeenth cycle where the wolf blood running inside our veins starts to fully take-over the body.My transition to wolfhood was truly special and my father made sure that every single life in the pack recognized the phony that was me. In their eyes, I was extra special but in my own perception, I’m just as mediocre as everyone else. I might have gained my beast form at such an incredibly early age but when I think of it, it isn’t really that special. It feels more like I just hit puberty way too early than my peers.Shortly after my first full moon, I was immedia
IDRIS LYKAIOS The howling from the distance became even stronger and piercing and as I picked up my pace, it became even more violent. Something was not right. I followed Roger’s scent until it ultimately led me to an old cabin hidden in the depths of the woods. I noticed the moon finally edged it’s away above into the night sky and I’m pretty sure, once a single filament of moonlight hits Roger’s skin, the wolfblood running in his veins would immediately react in such a violent seizure. He would begin the lunar awakening and I want to make sure I’m there when it happens. Most mortal humans who manages to survive the incubation period doesn’t do pretty well when they undergo their very first transformation. It’s a difficult process. It’s quite a bit similar to how a wolfborn transforms. However, when a wolfborn first transform, you could easily guide their instincts using your own howl making them easier to tame. It’s not like that for mortal humans though. They don’t have the capaci
IDRIS LYKAIOSRoger eventually passed out right after completing his shift of shape and that’s more than enough to control him from wreaking havoc and possibly harming other innocent mortals. It was hard to watch him struggle in an increased dosage of agony as his body slowly changed. He’s one buffed predator in his beast form. His body mass has doubled up, his hair was thicker and fuller and his ears were flappier. This isn’t the first time that I witnessed a mortal human transform into one of us but it is certainly the first time that I don’t have to take their innocent life. Roger should be lucky that I need him so I could find a way to hunt the rogue werewolf who attacked him. That rogue werewolf used to be a part of our pack. He’s in fact, one of our best warriors. His skills are proven and tested. My father was trying to build a stronger army believing that something dangerous and chaotic is about to come his way and he needs every strong warrior to protect the whole pack. Or so
