Chapter 3

작가: SoyMission
Another elder, Helen, gave a nod of agreement. "If that doesn't work, you could always let him audit classes at the Supernatural Academy.

"When he grows up, he can marry someone from an ordinary supernatural family and live a quiet, peaceful life. There's nothing wrong with that."

Around the table, everyone chimed in with their own suggestions. The conversation grew louder and livelier.

I never said a word.

Seeing that I remained silent, Evelyn grew so anxious that a sheen of sweat formed on her forehead.

"Honey, please say something.

"If this is what you want, we'll find a way. No matter what it costs."

I finally looked at her.

"Fine.

"Bring me the umbilical cord blood we preserved on the day our son was born."

The ballroom instantly fell silent.

For hundreds of years, the White family had followed the same tradition.

Whenever a tiger cub was born, its umbilical cord blood was collected. It was sealed inside a crystal vial engraved with the White family crest, then locked away forever in the family vault.

It served as both proof of bloodline and one of the most important symbols of a White heir's identity.

The crystal vial had already been prepared while Evelyn was pregnant. It had been stored in a temperature-controlled safe at the hospital. Even if the baby had not been born a tiger, family tradition required the blood sample to be preserved.

Evelyn's face turned ghostly pale.

"H-Honey... that vial...

"I thought that... since the baby wasn't a tiger, we wouldn’t have any use for the sample. So... a few days ago... I asked Jack to dispose of it."

The corner of my mouth lifted into a faint smile. My voice, however, grew colder with every word.

"You disposed of it?

"It was nothing more than an orange cat's blood sample, so why are you nervous?"

Evelyn opened her mouth. Nothing came out.

Several of the elders exchanged uneasy glances.

The umbilical cord blood of an orange cat might not have seemed especially valuable. However, there was a world of difference between destroying it on purpose and preserving it forever according to family tradition.

I stared straight into Evelyn's beautiful eyes.

"Evelyn.

"Let me make one thing perfectly clear.

"That orange cat… is not my son."

A chorus of shocked gasps swept through the ballroom.

Every trace of color vanished from Evelyn's face.

"Honey… what... what are you saying?

"Did... did something happen the day our baby was born?"

She had not even finished speaking before I slammed my palm onto the dining table. The impact was so powerful that every wineglass bounced into the air.

"Donald!

"Contact St. Mary's Medical Center immediately!

"Pull every surveillance recording from the night our child was born. The delivery room, the hallways, the elevators. Everything. I want every second of it played here, live.

"Bring Dr. Wilson, every nurse, every midwife, and every staff member who was on duty that night. Not a single one is to be left out. And notify the Supernatural Affairs Bureau."

"Tell them to bring the Bloodline Resonance Crystal."

"Today... I'm going to find out exactly who dared to lay a hand on my son."

The elders exchanged uneasy glances, but no one dared to speak. They all knew I was truly furious. My eyes settled on Evelyn's pale face as she stood there, looking every bit the innocent victim. She was putting on a flawless performance.

Less than half an hour later, the giant screen that had been showing birthday messages flickered back to life.

Jim Wilson was escorted to the front.

After hearing the entire story, his face turned deathly white. He nearly dropped to his knees on the spot.

"Mr. White, this has nothing to do with me!

"I cut the umbilical cord myself. The moment the baby was born, I carried him straight to you. There was still blood on him. We hadn't even cleaned him off yet.

"There were at least seven or eight people in the delivery room watching. How could I possibly have switched the babies?"

Several of the elders also stepped forward to back him up. Each of them swore that a baby swap was absolutely impossible.

The surveillance footage began to play on the giant screen.

With my own eyes, I watched Jim lift that chubby orange kitten from Evelyn's arms. Then I watched the man in the recording, the one who looked exactly like me, take the little orange kitten into his arms with tears streaming down his face.

However, that was not my smile.

Those were not the expressions I would ever make.

Despite this... not a single person there seemed to notice anything strange.

Just then, four officers from the Supernatural Affairs Bureau entered the ballroom carrying a transparent crystal nearly as tall as a person.

A soft silver light flowed inside it. Ancient magical runes covered the stone pedestal beneath it. It was the Bureau's highest-ranking sacred artifact for verifying bloodlines.

The Bloodline Resonance Crystal.

Surveillance footage could be forged and witnesses could lie. This crystal, however, never could. It preserved the truest resonance of blood itself. All it required was a single drop of pure water to reveal the truth.

Then two people who shared a bloodline would place their hands on the crystal together.

The crystal would awaken the echoes of their shared bloodline, projecting moments from their childhood that only true family could possess. No magic could counterfeit them. No illusion could deceive the crystal. No one could alter the truth it revealed.

Of course, he did not answer me. He was only a month old. He could not even stand yet, let alone respond to my words. However, he was alive. He was really alive. I laughed like a madman as tears streamed uncontrollably down my face. I laughed until my voice turned hoarse, until I could barely make a sound.Cradling my son in my arms, I made the long journey back to the White family's territory, one step at a time. It took an entire day and night. When I finally reached the entrance to the White Family Memorial Hall...My legs gave out beneath me.I dropped heavily to my knees.Inside the hall...Stone memorials honored every generation of the White family. At the very front... three new memorials had been added. My father. My mother. The real Evelyn. My mother...On the very night I left seventh underground level of the Supernatural Affairs Bureau, she chose to end her own life.Because she knew, as long as she remained alive, the Snake Clan could always use her to threate

The fake Evelyn's expression finally changed."You really dare interfere?"If the Snake King awakens, not even the Ancient Laws will be able to stop him...""The Ancient Laws?" Tracy let out an icy laugh. "Then why don't you look up?"The fake Evelyn instinctively lifted her head. The sky had already disappeared beneath a blanket of thick black clouds. However, those were not ordinary storm clouds.Deep within them... countless streaks of dark golden lightning rolled and surged. It looked as if enough power to destroy the world was gathering inside. The Lightning of Judgment. The former Bureau Director slowly set down his coffee cup. Then he reached into his coat and pulled out an ancient bronze badge.Holding it high toward the sky, he declared, "In the name of the Director of the Supernatural Affairs Bureau..."By the authority of the Ancient Laws... I invoke the Rite of Judgment."The Snake Clan has allied with the forces of darkness. They kidnapped the guardian of the F

She was right. With the power I had left... I was no match for her. However, I had never been fighting alone. I gently lifted the little tiger cub from my back. Carefully setting him down in a corner of the stone chamber. Then I turned around. Standing alone before the hundreds of Snake Clan fighters.Slowly, I closed my eyes.At that moment...I remembered the last trace of ancient power my father had passed to me from the blood pool.It was only a tiny spark, but it was not ordinary magic. It was the true source of the First Forest Tiger's bloodline.Without the slightest hesitation... I ignited it completely. It was like throwing a blazing torch onto a pile of damp firewood. At first... there was only a tiny spark.Then...Boom! Every drop of blood in my body erupted into a boil as scorching power tore through me, flooding every muscle, every bone and every fiber of my being. Everything burned. The long-dormant bloodline of the First Forest Tiger had finally awakened.

"Dad! Dad!! I'm here! I'm here to save you!"He smiled. It was the same smile that had appeared in my childhood dreams, gentle and peaceful, and filled with the love I had carried with me all those years."You've grown so much." He slowly extended out his tongue, gently licking the blood from my face. His eyes overflowed with pride. "You're becoming more and more like a true head of the White family.""Dad! I'm getting you out of here!" I immediately turned around, lowered my head and sank my teeth into the enchanted chains wrapped around him.The chains were forged from pitch-black magical metal, every link etched with ancient runes. Venom oozed constantly from their surface. Every time I bit down, the poison burned through the flesh inside my mouth, and blood poured from my jaws."Stop." Father gently shook his head. "These chains were forged using the Snake King's power."With your strength as it is now... you can't break them.""I won't leave without you!" I almost roared th

My blood turned ice-cold."T-Then... that chubby orange kitten..."Mother slowly closed her eyes. "That orange kitten… is the child of that snake impostor and Jack."Tears slid down her scar-covered face."Simon. Your real son has already been taken to the Avalon Ruins. You have to save him.""However, what about you...""Forget about me!" Mother suddenly struggled against her restraints. The enchanted chains wrapped around her body shook violently, filling the room with the harsh screech of grinding metal."This body of mine… is never getting out of here. Go to Avalon and bring your son back."And bring your father home too."Go!"I remained on my knees. My whole body trembled uncontrollably. For the first time in centuries... I realized just how hopelessly foolish I had been.I had been deceived for so long that I had not even noticed the woman beside me had been replaced.I had failed to protect Evelyn. I would not lose my son too.Slowly, I rose to my feet. I wiped aw

I lowered my eyes to my hand. The White family's bloodline carried the oldest power of the First Forest Tiger. That ancient bloodline was recognized by primordial magic itself.I bit my fingertip and let a single drop of blood fall onto the ancient seal.Hiss...The seal burst into flames the instant I touched it. In the blink of an eye, it crumbled into ash, and the massive iron door slowly swung open. Beyond it lay the seventh underground level. It looked nothing like the prison I had imagined. Instead, a long, silent corridor stretched out before me, its sides lined with transparent crystal walls. Behind each wall was a separate room. I froze for a heartbeat before hurrying to the nearest one. Inside, a woman who was half human and half deer lay on a medical bed. Her swollen belly told me she was close to giving birth. Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was weak, but she was still alive.I rushed to the second room. Inside lay a pregnant woman from the Wolf Clan, her w
