Chapter 6

Author: SoyMission
My mother.

Janice.

The current head of the White family and the most respected matriarch of the entire Forest Tiger Clan.

Her face was always stern. However, today, it was angrier than I had ever seen it.

"If I'd arrived one minute later...

"You would have forced the soul contract apart and, when the backlash hit, it would have torn your soul to pieces."

The moment I heard her say, "Simon."

My nose suddenly stung.

In this world... if there was anyone who loved me more than anyone else...

It was my mother.

My father died when I was still very young. For all those years, my mother had carried the entire White family on her shoulders while raising me from a tiger cub small enough to fit in the palm of her hand.

Centuries of responsibility had made her more commanding than any other tiger matriarch of her generation.

When she was young, her favorite place in the world was the Avalon Islands.

However, after inheriting the position of family head... she never left our territory again.

Over the years, there was one thing she always said.

"Simon, when are you going to give me a little tiger grandchild?

"The day you do... I'll hand the family over to you and spend the next few hundred years living in Avalon."

That was why I had been so determined. I had to have a real tiger child.

I had never hidden anything from my mother.

"Mom. Please, let me explain..."

Before I could finish, she raised a hand to stop me.

"I already know what happened on the way here."

"Simon. How did I raise you?

"No matter what species a child is... if it's your own flesh and blood, you treat them all the same. This is your child. You should be protecting him.

"Today... I'm truly disappointed in you."

I did not care what anyone else said. However, my mother's words... they cut into my heart like a knife.

The pain was so sharp I could barely breathe.

My voice trembled.

"Mom...

"That orange kitten... is he really my son?"

"If he isn't yours, whose would he be?" She let out a soft sigh. "Simon. There's something I've kept from you for many years.

"Your father... he wasn't a Forest Tiger. He was an ordinary orange cat. My tiger bloodline was simply powerful enough... that I gave birth to you.

"Even so... you still inherited half of your father's cat bloodline. So, the fact that your own child was born an orange cat... isn't strange at all."

My heart sank.

My father's grave lay in the birch grove behind the White family cemetery. When I was little, I held one of his fangs in my own hands. It had been a full three inches long, curved like a crescent moon. Only an adult Forest Tiger could possess fangs like that.

My mother would never have lied to me about something so important.

Which meant...

The "mother" standing before me...

Just then, Evelyn walked over. Her face was filled with concern.

"Mom. Simon didn't mean any of this.

"While I was pregnant... someone must have secretly done something to him.

"When we get home...we'll find whoever is behind this."

My mother nodded gently.

Then sighed.

"Evelyn... the way this child loves you... even I find myself a little jealous."

As she spoke, the two of them each took one of my arms.

One on my left and one on my right.

No matter how hard I struggled... I could not break free.

Then, as I lowered my head, something caught the corner of my eye.

My mother's left hand was wrapped tightly around my arm.

Five fingers.

Every one of them was intact. My mind went completely blank.

Three hundred years ago, my mother had hunted an Ancient Demon Bear in the Black Forest. They had battled for three days and three nights. In the end, the demon bear had died, but it had bitten off my mother's left little finger.

Even now, an oil painting of that battle hung in the White family memorial hall. In it, her left hand was unmistakably missing its little finger.

However, the "mother" holding me now... had all five fingers. Not one was missing.

Cold sweat broke out across my back.

She... was not my mother.

I gave a slow nod. Then, without the slightest warning, I lunged forward and sank my teeth into the hand gripping my arm.

"Ahhh!"

A piercing scream tore through the room. Blood flooded my mouth, but it was not tiger blood. It was cold, sickly sweet, and reeked of decay.

Snake blood.

Of course, he did not answer me. He was only a month old. He could not even stand yet, let alone respond to my words. However, he was alive. He was really alive. I laughed like a madman as tears streamed uncontrollably down my face. I laughed until my voice turned hoarse, until I could barely make a sound.Cradling my son in my arms, I made the long journey back to the White family's territory, one step at a time. It took an entire day and night. When I finally reached the entrance to the White Family Memorial Hall...My legs gave out beneath me.I dropped heavily to my knees.Inside the hall...Stone memorials honored every generation of the White family. At the very front... three new memorials had been added. My father. My mother. The real Evelyn. My mother...On the very night I left seventh underground level of the Supernatural Affairs Bureau, she chose to end her own life.Because she knew, as long as she remained alive, the Snake Clan could always use her to threate

The fake Evelyn's expression finally changed."You really dare interfere?"If the Snake King awakens, not even the Ancient Laws will be able to stop him...""The Ancient Laws?" Tracy let out an icy laugh. "Then why don't you look up?"The fake Evelyn instinctively lifted her head. The sky had already disappeared beneath a blanket of thick black clouds. However, those were not ordinary storm clouds.Deep within them... countless streaks of dark golden lightning rolled and surged. It looked as if enough power to destroy the world was gathering inside. The Lightning of Judgment. The former Bureau Director slowly set down his coffee cup. Then he reached into his coat and pulled out an ancient bronze badge.Holding it high toward the sky, he declared, "In the name of the Director of the Supernatural Affairs Bureau..."By the authority of the Ancient Laws... I invoke the Rite of Judgment."The Snake Clan has allied with the forces of darkness. They kidnapped the guardian of the F

She was right. With the power I had left... I was no match for her. However, I had never been fighting alone. I gently lifted the little tiger cub from my back. Carefully setting him down in a corner of the stone chamber. Then I turned around. Standing alone before the hundreds of Snake Clan fighters.Slowly, I closed my eyes.At that moment...I remembered the last trace of ancient power my father had passed to me from the blood pool.It was only a tiny spark, but it was not ordinary magic. It was the true source of the First Forest Tiger's bloodline.Without the slightest hesitation... I ignited it completely. It was like throwing a blazing torch onto a pile of damp firewood. At first... there was only a tiny spark.Then...Boom! Every drop of blood in my body erupted into a boil as scorching power tore through me, flooding every muscle, every bone and every fiber of my being. Everything burned. The long-dormant bloodline of the First Forest Tiger had finally awakened.

"Dad! Dad!! I'm here! I'm here to save you!"He smiled. It was the same smile that had appeared in my childhood dreams, gentle and peaceful, and filled with the love I had carried with me all those years."You've grown so much." He slowly extended out his tongue, gently licking the blood from my face. His eyes overflowed with pride. "You're becoming more and more like a true head of the White family.""Dad! I'm getting you out of here!" I immediately turned around, lowered my head and sank my teeth into the enchanted chains wrapped around him.The chains were forged from pitch-black magical metal, every link etched with ancient runes. Venom oozed constantly from their surface. Every time I bit down, the poison burned through the flesh inside my mouth, and blood poured from my jaws."Stop." Father gently shook his head. "These chains were forged using the Snake King's power."With your strength as it is now... you can't break them.""I won't leave without you!" I almost roared th

My blood turned ice-cold."T-Then... that chubby orange kitten..."Mother slowly closed her eyes. "That orange kitten… is the child of that snake impostor and Jack."Tears slid down her scar-covered face."Simon. Your real son has already been taken to the Avalon Ruins. You have to save him.""However, what about you...""Forget about me!" Mother suddenly struggled against her restraints. The enchanted chains wrapped around her body shook violently, filling the room with the harsh screech of grinding metal."This body of mine… is never getting out of here. Go to Avalon and bring your son back."And bring your father home too."Go!"I remained on my knees. My whole body trembled uncontrollably. For the first time in centuries... I realized just how hopelessly foolish I had been.I had been deceived for so long that I had not even noticed the woman beside me had been replaced.I had failed to protect Evelyn. I would not lose my son too.Slowly, I rose to my feet. I wiped aw

I lowered my eyes to my hand. The White family's bloodline carried the oldest power of the First Forest Tiger. That ancient bloodline was recognized by primordial magic itself.I bit my fingertip and let a single drop of blood fall onto the ancient seal.Hiss...The seal burst into flames the instant I touched it. In the blink of an eye, it crumbled into ash, and the massive iron door slowly swung open. Beyond it lay the seventh underground level. It looked nothing like the prison I had imagined. Instead, a long, silent corridor stretched out before me, its sides lined with transparent crystal walls. Behind each wall was a separate room. I froze for a heartbeat before hurrying to the nearest one. Inside, a woman who was half human and half deer lay on a medical bed. Her swollen belly told me she was close to giving birth. Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was weak, but she was still alive.I rushed to the second room. Inside lay a pregnant woman from the Wolf Clan, her w
