Rafe

~~~
Sharp brown eyes bore into mine.
Feisty.
She became feisty over the years. But that’s not the only goddamn thing she became over the years.
She could hardly look me in the eyes back then. That’s probably why I never suspected she’d pull a stupid stunt like running away to another continent. It’s insane.
“I had to leave or I would’ve died,” she spits, her nose scrunching up in slight disgust.
Insane.
She seems like a completely new person, only a fraction of who she used to be, but I
    Cici~~~“Why?”“I didn’t ask you that when you left the house today, Rafe. Besides, you have your surveillance team reporting everything I do to you, don’t you?” I say, my gaze shifting to Pedro and Otta. One is driving, while the other sits in the passenger seat. They visibly stiffen, with Otta clearing his throat. “You’ve got a smart mouth, don’t you?” An exasperated sigh escapes my lips as I press my thumb and index fingers on the bridge of my nose.“I’m getting another call. Bye.” I hang up.My relationship with Rafe has been strained for an entire week now, since we returned to New York, and it’s all his fault. My phone rings again. I know it’s him calling so I don’t pick up. Not the first call or the second, or the fourth.He’s been extra busy, doing only what he and Gio know what, seeing as they’re always together. What I know, though, is that it has something to do with the Rossis and it seems Rafe is planning something. I walked past his office one afternoon and heard Ra
    Cici~~~My family house always evokes the same feelings in me whenever I’m here.Longing. Dread.Bodyguards are manning every corner of the area, surveying the surroundings with their hands on their guns, ready to shoot at anyone who tries anything funny. Aside from that, maids are going about as usual, the gardener trimming the overgrown bushes.They’re not the employees we had when I used to live here, so they know nothing about the tragedy that happened here. Thinking about how none of our old staff still work here stirs something painful in my chest. They were part of this house, part of the life my family once had. Now, even their absence reminds me of how much Maya changed around here.Why did Maya send them away? The simple question fuels my already burning anger. How dare she make changes without consulting the only family her brother left behind, and still have the guts to try to hurt me?And she thinks I’ll let her go scot-free?“Cici!” A familiar voice calls from behind m
    Cici~~~The sound of aircraft engines fills the entire space as we arrive at the airport. Just like the morning we left New York, I was yanked out of bed all because I wanted five more minutes of sleep.However, unlike that day, Rafe lacked the patience to deal with me. He was ready to leave me at the hotel and have someone book me a commercial flight back, claiming he’s too busy to wait around for me.Hearing that immediately pulled me out of my slumber, but it also made me furious.I didn’t ask to be brought on this trip—though I can’t deny that being here made me momentarily forget about everything that happened and everything waiting for me back in New York—so why was he acting like I’d gotten on my knees and begged to come along?I tried to swallow my irritation, but sitting beside him in the car, on the way to the airport only made it worse. A part of me wanted to be understanding, considering how angry he’d been when we returned to the hotel last night. But I’d tried to get h
    Cici~~~As my fingers tighten against Rafe’s shirt, there’s only one thing going through my head: I shouldn’t have come here.Pedro warned me. He’d told me to wait, but I let my stubbornness decide for me, and now a person is dead. And they're dead because of me.The body stays unmoving on the ground after twitching a few times. I’d been too shocked to think about it, but everyone just watched the man fall to the ground, no one making any attempt to try and save his life. Now he’s lying in the pool of his blood, hardly the way he thought tonight was going to end for him.I should have just remained in the VIP section, throwing my ass around like someone with no care in the world even though I was growing bored of it.“Vigano!” The man with the cigar, Victor, yells, his brows drawn together so tightly it looks painful.Rafe’s other arm, the one he used to shoot the man, comes around me, patting my back, his gun hanging casually from his hand.“Clean this shit up,” Rafe says instead o
    Cici ~~~ I stare at my reflection in the mirror and smile back. She looks exactly as I feel; sexy and confident. My outfit is a red, above-the-knee bandage dress that clings to my curves for dear life. If anything, it’s accentuating them more than anything I’ve ever worn. And I’ve worn a lot of sexy dresses. I’d sent for a hot comb and a flat iron to do something about my hair, but I couldn’t get it to my stylist’s level, so I used a claw clip to hold it up, to give the back of my head a little more dimension. My makeup is simple, but it looks extra. I guess that’s what happens when you use new products; everything blends in right. I turn slightly to the side to check out my body and as I’m lost in my vanity, a figure appears behind me. I actually smell Rafe before I notice him. He wraps his arms around my waist, staring at me through the mirror. “This dress…” He drawls, burying his nose in the crook of my neck. “Don’t say anything bad about it ‘cause I’m not taking it off.”
    Cici~~~I wake up alone in bed today, which is shocking because Rafe wouldn’t let me get even an inch away from him last night.When I swing my legs off the bed, a sharp ache shoots through my thighs. Rafe really made good on his promise that when he was done with me, I’d only remember him.It’s been hours, yet I can still feel him inside me.I glance at the empty space where he should’ve been. No note, no explanation, not even a message. After practically keeping me glued to his side all night, he’s suddenly disappeared without a word.I grab the first thing I see, which is the shirt he was wearing yesterday, and step out of the room. The bathroom is empty, so I know he isn’t there. But he’s also not in the living room or the balcony. Confused, I rush back to the room for my phone and dial his number.He picks up on the fourth ring.“Minera.”“Where are you?”“Out,” he replies curtly. He’s not in a good mood.“Okay… well, I thought we were heading back to New York today.”“Can’t.”
