Asher was still on the park bench when his phone vibrated in his coat pocket.

He didn’t move for a long time.

The screen kept lighting up, a small disruption in the numbed silence swallowing him whole.

He finally reached for it, expecting another spam headline, maybe a company alert or something about a military buddy passing through.

But no, it was Serena.

Serena:

I know you’re hurting. I’m… sorry. I saw the press. He just landed. It’s already all over the news.

Asher stared at the message, jaw tightening.

Of all the people, it was her. His sister. The one who’d manipulated the same way Luca had. The one who let this engagement keep rolling even though she knew exactly what her brother was going through, because it worked in her favor.

He should’ve ignored her.

He didn’t.

He typed slowly, fingers stiff from the cold and the weight of everything he hadn’t said.

Asher:

Don’t worry about me. I’m good. You can go back to hiding your little secret in peace. Hope you and Luca have a perfec

Reid stood rigid, eyes clouded with rage and fear as he reached beneath the hem of his hoodie. In one swift movement, the muzzle of a sleek, black pistol glinted beneath the cabin's dim lighting, pointed directly at Paolo Virelli’s chest. The room went silent. The fire crackled like distant thunder.“Don’t move,” Reid said, voice low, tight, barely controlled. “I swear I’ll do it.”Paolo didn’t flinch. But something in his stance shifted. Calculated stillness replaced steel confidence. His eyes narrowed.“You don’t want to do this,” he said slowly.“I already did this,” Reid snapped. “I betrayed the only person who ever gave a damn about me. So don’t act like I’m above anything now.”His finger hovered near the trigger. The tremble in his hand was barely visible, but Paolo saw it. And worse, he saw the desperation behind it.“I know who you are, Paolo,” Reid continued, eyes flashing. “You didn’t come here with a team. You came alone. Why?”Paolo’s lips pressed into a thin line, but he

Reid’s silence was the answer. He couldn’t even meet Paolo’s eyes.“You were in the military, weren’t you?” Paolo asked. “Special Forces. I remember reading your file when Asher and Luca first crossed paths. You had discipline. Purpose. But look at you now.”Reid laughed bitterly, a dry, cracking sound. “You think I don’t know what I’ve become?”“I think you’re a man who couldn’t stand being second,” Paolo replied bluntly. “To a boy who once hid behind fake names and silent stares.”That landed.Hard.Reid flinched, stepping back like the words were physical. “I wasn’t trying to win him back,” he lied.Paolo didn’t bother calling it out. He didn’t need to.“You know what hurts the most?” Paolo said. “Not that you turned on us. Not even that you caused this breach and nearly ended Wolfe Security. What hurts the most is that my own son thought I did it. That I would sabotage everything he’d worked for. Just because I didn’t accept his choice.”Reid swallowed hard. His throat was tight.

The sound of the lock clicking shut behind him was too soft to match the weight it carried.Paolo Virelli stepped fully into the dimly lit cabin, the old wooden floor creaking faintly beneath his polished shoes. The scent of coffee still lingered faintly in the air, bitter and burnt, but there was another smell too, sharper, something like sweat and adrenaline. Fear. Or maybe guilt. Maybe both. The living room was sparsely furnished, a worn leather chair, an ashtray with a single, untouched cigarette, a desk with a closed laptop and scattered papers. It was clear Reid hadn’t expected anyone. He stood motionless by the far window, only half turned, as though the presence behind him hadn’t fully registered.Until it did.Reid slowly turned. And saw Paolo. His brows lifted, disbelief crashing into his features first. Then confusion. Then recognition, not just of the man, but of what his presence meant.“...What are you doing here?” Reid asked, voice low, measured, but the slight quiver b

The sound of the door slamming behind him still rang in his ears. But it wasn’t loud enough to drown out the ache building in his chest.Luca didn’t know where he was going. He just knew he had to get out. Away. Somewhere. Anywhere that didn’t feel like a graveyard of everything he thought he’d rebuilt. His car keys were already in his hand by the time he reached the driveway. The engine roared to life, but he didn’t turn on the music. Didn’t call anyone. Didn’t even wipe the tear that slipped down his cheek. The road blurred around him, city lights bleeding into streaks of color. He couldn’t breathe. The fight replayed over and over in his head, Asher’s doubt, his guarded voice, the hesitation when Luca had asked him “Who do you trust more?”He had begged for something simple. Not even proof. Just belief. And Asher hadn’t given it.Not fully. Not enough. After everything. The steering wheel trembled under his grip.He pulled into the first empty lot he could find and turned off the e

Luca took two shaky steps back. His chest rose and fell like a man trying to breathe after being hit in the ribs.“I’ve known Reid longer.”The words echoed in his mind. Again. And again. Until they drowned out every beat of his heart. He let out a dry, breathless laugh. “Wow.”Asher’s expression softened with immediate regret. “Luca...”“Don’t.” Luca held up a hand, palm trembling. “Don’t say my name like that. Like I’m the one who’s being irrational.”“I didn’t mean it the way it came out.”“But that’s the thing,” Luca said, voice low, eyes glinting. “You did. You said it without thinking, which means that’s how you really feel.”“Luca, this isn’t about choosing sides...”“Isn’t it?” Luca cut in. “Because it feels a hell of a lot like it is. And you didn’t choose me.”Asher took a step forward. “I’m trying to protect us.”“No, you’re protecting him,” Luca snapped. “A man who once left you bleeding in the dirt. A man who had months, years, to come clean. But the moment my father is f

  • The Wrong Kind Of Right   Chapter 141

Two hours later, the Virelli town car moved off the paved roads and onto gravel. Paolo drove himself. The night was heavy with silence, the kind that swallowed sound and scattered stars across the sky like shattered glass. He drove without GPS. He didn’t need it. The location had been burned into his mind the moment he saw it.An abandoned service cabin in the foothills, just outside a forest preserve. Quiet. Isolated. Forgettable.Perfect for cowards to hide.He parked a few hundred meters out, careful not to let the engine lights cast onto the house. His polished shoes sank slightly into the dirt as he stepped out, coat flapping against the wind. There were no signs of life.No light inside. No dogs. No alarms.Just one narrow window flickering faintly with the glow of a single lamp.He moved closer. One foot after another. The Paolo Virelli of boardrooms and media cameras dissolved under the weight of night. What remained was something older, more primal, a man raised in shadows, s
