Belladonna bit her lower lip hard to keep her tears from spilling out. Slowly, she stepped closer to Dominic and knelt at his feet. She picked up the handkerchief on the floor with her trembling hands.

“Please, come home with me for lunch. I don't want to disappoint my parents,” she pleaded as she dusted off his shoes with the handkerchief. It was okay; she would soon forget what had just happened. She chanted the words over and over in her heart like a mantra to comfort herself.

She wouldn't write it down in her diary, though, because what she had done just now wasn't something worth keeping in her memory. She didn't want to be reminded that she had stooped so low just to make a desperate plea.

Dominic just stared at her without looking away. Somehow, he was irritated by the fact that Belladonna was actually cleaning his shoes as he had ordered. Was that woman a fool?

Seeing her still cleaning his shoes while begging made him even more irritated. He abruptly pulled his foot away. It was a truly sickening sight.

“You're such an idiot, and I'm sick of you!” He stormed off, having seen enough of Belladonna's stupidity in willing herself to be humiliated.

Belladonna watched him leave. Let him hate her, she thought. She hoped his hatred for her would become even stronger so that when they parted ways, and Bianca returned, there would be no feelings left between them.

She had no idea if he would agree to get back together with her, but at least she had tried. She turned and walked away toward the warehouse, her head hung low. What made it worse was that she was ashamed of being the center of attention of the maids who had been stealing glances at her earlier. Now she felt like she was lowlier than those maids.

Once inside the warehouse, she squeezed her eyes shut to hold back all the painful feelings she was experiencing. “Everything will be fine, Bella,” she muttered to herself.

After feeling better, she took her cell phone as she had to talk to her mother. She was sure Dominic would come back with her because she had obeyed his orders to beg and kneel.

“How did it go? Did you manage to get him to come home?" asked her mother.

“Yes. I think he will come home with me for lunch.”

“Good. You truly are the daughter I can always count on. It was not in vain that I took care of you since you were a baby, since you know how to repay the favor.” Hearing her mother's words made her smile bitterly. Being indebted to someone was really not pleasant at all.

“Then tomorrow, you must welcome him properly, Mom.” She wanted so badly to end their conversation, but she didn’t dare.

“I will do that, of course. I’m so glad that you managed to bring him over. Now get some rest and have a happy marriage.”

Once again, she could only smile bitterly. What was there to be happy about? Was her mother asking her to be happy about her suffering as a wife who was unwanted by her husband?

“I will be happy,” she said, despite not knowing what there was to be happy about.

She placed her phone down after talking to her mother. Sleep would have been the best option, but she was feeling hungry now. There was no way she could run out to get food since she was just a nobody, or to be exact, a stranger in that house. Dominic didn't offer her any food either. So she had to know her place. It was better to endure it and buy food tomorrow when she went to work.

Holding her rumbling stomach, she chose to sleep instead. It was okay; she would forget all of this soon. She had no idea how many times she had uttered those words today, and it seemed she would keep saying them to cheer herself up.

A rumbling stomach woke her up earlier than usual. She was starving since she had missed lunch and dinner. Her eyes widened in confusion as she found herself awake in a small warehouse. She couldn't remember how she got there.

She pondered for a short while, trying to recall where she was, until it dawned on her that she was the unwanted wife of Dominic.

Her memory seemed to be getting worse. She had to make sure not to forget herself, so she decided to write down her name. She also had to keep a picture of Dominic, so she would always remember who he was when she forgot about him.

Her stomach kept growling, so she made up her mind to go outside. She met several maids who were busy. They just stared at her, who looked lost in the grand mansion.

Dominic hadn't woken up yet. Looks like this was her chance to get some food because she couldn't stand her hunger any longer. She couldn't faint, or it would be a big problem to deal with. Just a slice of bread, that should be fine.

“Miss, what are you looking for?” asked the maid, startling her as she looked around for the kitchen.

“I-I want to go to the kitchen. Sorry...” she looked at the maid, trying to remember what she looked like.

“The kitchen is over there. Do you want to make breakfast for Sir Dominic?

“No. I...?”

“He likes black coffee. Just make him a simple breakfast.” The maid thought she wanted to make breakfast for Dominic.

“I don't...”

“Everything is in the refrigerator, Miss. You can get it yourself.” The maid patted her on the shoulder and walked away.

She was about to tell the maid that she only needed a slice of bread and didn't intend to make breakfast for Dominic. She knew that he would never touch the breakfast she made, but the maid left her there without hearing the rest of what she had to say.

She then made her way to the kitchen and started looking for bread. She was torn between making breakfast for Dominic or not, making her feel conflicted. What if she ended up with nothing?

She would get blamed anyway since the maid had asked her to make breakfast for Dominic. She was really not sure what to do. Whether she made breakfast or not, the result would be the same. But rather than being scolded for doing nothing, it was better to make breakfast for Dominic, even though she had no idea whether he would like it or not.

Ever since those bitter words rolled off Dominic’s tongue, Belladonna’s attitude had changed drastically. She no longer defied him or argued with him. Instead, she had become quiet and barely spoke. Every time Dominic spoke to her, he received nothing but a sweet smile. Whatever that smile meant, it deeply upset him.She normally used to argue with him and fight back whenever Dominic asked her to serve him. But after those hurtful words were spat out, there was no fighting back at all. He should have been happy, as he preferred a docile woman who didn't defy him. Yet, for some reason, he found himself scowling.Just as he had guessed, something was off with him. Something he did not want was seemingly happening to him.Dominic was sitting in his office, looking rather glum as Belladonna had brushed him off that morning. After serving him, she had slipped back into the warehouse, hiding herself away.Usually, she would sleep with him in his bed, but not this time. She chose to head bac

Just to watch over Belladonna, Dominic handled all his work from home. He felt like he was losing his mind, doing things he shouldn’t have. An important meeting he was supposed to attend was pushed back until tomorrow, all because of a woman. He actually had no intention of doing that, but the memory of her clinging to him for hours, refusing to let go, kept him anchored there. Once she recovered, he’d make sure she paid a steep price for every second of his precious day that had been wasted. The sick Belladonna, lost in the haze of her fever, had no idea what had been done. She slept for what felt like an eternity until her condition got better. When she woke up, Dominic was not in the room. Her hand felt the damp compress on her forehead and tossed it aside, her eyes looked around at a room that seemed a bit unfamiliar to her. It took a few agonizing minutes to piece together where she was and why she was there. She also had to recall who she was. Since no one else was there, she d

Dominic shouted her name. He rushed over swiftly as he caught her limp body mere seconds before she hit the floor.Once again, he cursed himself for his rash actions and impulsiveness. He shouldn’t give a damn about her, but his actions and urges were at odds. Gritting his teeth, he bellowed for Helena to help him.Helena dashed over to Dominic, breathless, finding him in a state of controlled agitation. She looked distracted when he asked her to tend to the ailing Belladonna. Dominic had already carried Belladonna into her room and left her in Helena’s care.As Helena moved to change Belladonna’s clothes, Dominic paced back and forth beside the bed. His gaze flickered toward the bed once or twice, sharp and lingering, before turning on his heel and striding out of the room.At first, he had thought Belladonna was faking being sick so she could avoid her duties. But he was wrong— she wasn’t faking it at all.A few minutes later, Dominic entered the room again, making Helena shake her

If Estelle wouldn't help her, then she would find extra work on her own. No matter how that would cut into her break time, she didn't care. All she wanted was to scrape together enough money quickly so she could break free from the Marino family— and from Dominic. She didn't want to be his sex plaything anymore. She had to live her own life through her own merits. Though miracles didn't just happen on their own, she knew that. That's why she had to bleed for it.It sounded impossible, but it was her only way out. As long as she is still tied to the Marino family and Dominic Costa, there’s no way she’ll ever find happiness in her life.Belladonna went back to work, serving the guests who entered the bar as her break was over. As she served drinks to the guests, she felt a bit under the weather. After she expressed her intention to look for another job, she really did it, even without Estelle’s help. Though it was a bit hard to find one where she could work just a bunch of hours, she d

"Estelle, how can I make a lot of money— fast?" Belladonna’s question hung in the air, leaving Estelle staring at her in sheer bewilderment. It was the first time she had ever talked about money."Why? If you’re short on money, I can help you," Estelle replied, then quickly added, "Just tell me how much you need. I'll lend you some money if you need it." As her best friend, Estelle was ready to move mountains for her, especially where her finances were concerned."No need, Estelle," replied Belladonna, turning down the offer. A ghost of a bitter smile played on her lips. "I do need the money, but I can’t take it from you." She knew Estelle was kind, always the first to reach out when she was drowning."Don’t sweat it. If you really need it, I’ll lend it to you. So just tell me how much you need?”"Thirty-five million dollars," Belladonna said, her voice devoid of hesitation."What?!" Estelle’s scream echoed in the room, hearing the huge amount needed by Belladonna. "Are you insane? Wh

Dominic merely watched as Belladonna walked away. For some reason, a flicker of caring for her had ignited within him— a caring that shouldn't exist. He wasn't supposed to care about her, a woman he never wanted. Perhaps he was simply bored, getting carried away by the mood.Back in the warehouse, Belladonna wasted no time getting ready to leave, though she still desperately wanted to sleep. She reached for her phone on the table and snatched it up. A reminder chimed, alongside several unread messages from Estelle. But it was the string of notifications from her mother— missed calls and a blunt asking her to call back— that caught her eye.She was tempted to ignore it, but eventually she had no choice but to call her back and dial the number, wondering what she wanted. "What is it?" Belladonna asked the moment the line connected. "I can’t always pick up your calls.""Finally, I thought you were upset and forgot about us, so you wouldn’t answer my calls," Veronica’s voice came through,

Belladonna had just arrived at Estelle's house. She wanted to take a shower at her house.
