Damon’s POV

My beta, Ryan dropped me at the Redwind compound gates. It was popularly called the Den because it was the home of the Alpha.

Not me… but my father, the past Alpha.

The one who couldn’t let go of the fact that his reign had ended and the Goddess had picked me to continue the legacy he had somehow lost.

“Should I wait?” He asked, subtle.

It was no news to anyone particularly around me that my family and I didn’t see eye to eye.

That’s the only reason why an adolescent would be pushed into Alpha training. Not the fun office type but the rigorous physical training meant for men.

“No.” I adjusted the cuffs of my shirt. “Take the car back to the safe house. I’ll need a run after dinner anyway.”

The mansion sat ahead in the compound, every window blazed with bright lights from inside. The reason I could hear my brother’s laugh echo through the courtyard was because he wanted me to.

He thought for some reason his loud and triumphant laugh would make me feel less of a per

Damon’s POV The call came through just after two in the morning, I had been busy with my betas, Zeta and Ryan. I had assumed the proctor would wait till morning. “This is Proctor Varin,” the clipped voice announced. “We’ve completed the processing on Mara Raken’s results under wraps as you said.” I straightened on the bed. Kai rumbled low in my chest, he also was exhausted. “She passed, I can feel it. Our mate passed.” “Your Beta candidate has not only passed,” Varin continued, “but she has achieved reinstatement status. She is eligible for full wages and bonuses, effective immediately. Normally there would be a public acknowledgment in the morning, but given your request for her records to remain redacted, all documents will be transferred directly to you. She’ll only need to send her private details to finalize the payroll unless you’d prefer to do that as well.” I allowed only the faintest nod, though satisfaction pulsed through my body. “Thank you. I would prefer to be in cha

Damon’s POV The dinner wasn’t over… but Father had managed to put a sock in Darius’s mouth. Seraphina spoke for the first time tonight, her voice soft, measured. “Maybe it’s not so unreasonable, a bond like this could protect you… from enemies and unnecessary strain. And a chosen mate is just as wonderful as a fated mate.” She turned her head slightly, looking at me with what anyone else might call concern. “I’m sure they just want what’s best for you, Damon.” A perfect lie. Her tone and facial expressions dropped of sympathy but I knew better. Everything about their alliance, this family and even this dinner was calculated. “She seems like poison dripped in honey. Darius probably put her up to this, he’s cruel to her.” Kai muttered. “Be careful.” “This is not optional, Damon. You are only an Alpha because you’re my son. You carry my name and this pack is not a playground for your leftist ideals. Expansion ensures survival and without it, you are nothing but a caretaker. A

Damon’s POV“I think Mara is already in the safehouse.” Ryan said, as he came to a stop in the driveway. That pulled me out of my reverie, I had another important situation and that involved Mara. As I got in, the safe house smelled faintly of fresh coffee, it was like she knew what I suddenly needed or maybe she had had a shitty morning like me too. Mara was bent over her notepad, scribbling furiously. Her brows were drawn tight and her lips pressed together. It was like she was the picture of determination but somehow I still sensed the exhaustion. She looked up the moment I entered the room. “Good morning, I made some coffee as it’s not every day you’re late. I figured something was up…” she pointed at the coffee machine. I didn’t need to be told twice. I got there and got myself a huge mug of the fresh brew. After about two sips of the coffee, I closed my eyes and sighed. “Yeah, that was needed….” “Rough morning?” She asked,“Something like that,” I managed to give her a sm

Damon’s POV “Zeta’s on his way tailing Aiden so I think it’s wise that we leave now sir…” Ryan said, but the rest of his words were muffled as my mind was somewhere else. The words that Mara had just said had opened up another mystery that I had been working on before but it had hit a dead end and since it wasn’t a threat, I let it go. A white wolf. As soon as I heard Mara shut the door behind me, I got into the car, Ryan turned on the ignition. “I need you to run some intel for me, maybe use the beta intelligence guys. I need you to track all known records of a female white wolf and cross reference the last three decades. I want all battle reports, family registrations and even graves. Anything you can come up with…” Ryan paused, he had gotten out of the driveway and out of Mara’s street before he leaned back in his seat. “That’s… quite a tall order, Alpha. White wolves aren’t exactly common so it should make it easy but going back three decades. That’s a lot of files to go th

  • The Wrong Mate, The Right Alpha   Chapter 41 - The Ride Home

Mara’s POV I stared at Damon, he was no longer in his human form, he was now a massive wolf with eyes that were fixated on me. His eyes were two pools of hot lava and his fur was black. This was my first time seeing his wolf, it was magnificently glorious. Kira was practically vibrating inside me. “Well, what are we waiting for? Get on him! Don’t just stand there…” I wanted to speak but my throat had gone dry, I coughed a dry cough first. Damon’s wolf began inching closer. “I can’t ride an Alpha’s wolf, what does that even mean? That’s… that’s inappropriate right? It’s not nothing. It means something but I can’t explain what…” I snapped at Kira. She was jumbling up my thoughts and it was getting harder to think. I shook my head. “No. Absolutely not, Damon. I can walk to the bus station and wait for a bus. Better still you can call me a cab but I am not getting on you.” Damon huffed, there was a low sound in his chest that I pictured as him laughing. Maybe if he wa
