Chapter 8

“You!” The woman was so angry that her fingertips were trembling. “Mason Yeich, who do you think you are? Do you think I would have even looked at you if you weren’t the Second Young Master of the Yeich family? Do you think you’re some treasure who can refuse me multiple times? You’re just a cripple!”

Mason’s eyes turned dark after being called a cripple, the hostility rolling off him in waves.

Standing on the sidelines, Claire could not help but feel that she had stumbled upon some secrets…

The woman intended to say a few more harsh words but became intimidated by his hostility. Looking at his dark eyes, she could only dust herself off vehemently. The woman did not even notice Claire as she said to Mason before leaving, “Mason Yeich, just you wait. One day, I’ll have you on your knees begging me.”

With that, the woman left.

Only Mason and Claire were left at the scene.

Claire was still sitting on the cold floor. She had no idea where to look.

“Seems that I have underestimated you.”

A cold gaze landed on the top of Claire’s head.

Claire raised her head and said instinctively, “I... I didn’t hear anything just now…”

“You f*ck off as well!” Mason ordered.

Claire’s delicate eyebrows wrinkled as she said seriously, “I’ll be your assistant from today onwards. Besides, weren’t you the one who asked me to get to the office myself?

As she finished speaking, Claire got up from the floor and strode over to stand behind Mason’s wheelchair, placing her hands on the handles of his wheelchair.

“I’ve already got myself over. Shouldn’t it be time for you to keep your promise as well?”

Claire did not wait for him to reply before she pushed him inside while asking, “What do you need me to do?”

Mason did not answer, but the aura surrounding him became even stronger and more compelling. He laughed coolly as he said, “It seems that you do not know the spelling of the word ‘die’.”

Claire pursed her lips together. “I don’t want to be your assistant either, but this was what Grandfather intended.”

“Are you holding him over me?”

“What for? I’m a victim as well.”

Claire noticed that the office was in a state of disarray. There were even some documents strewn across the floor. That must have been done by the woman who had just left.

As the thought occurred in her mind, she bent down and picked up the papers, arranging them on top of the desk.

Mason’s gaze darkened as he watched this series of actions.

Just then, Simon entered the room. “Young Master Yeich, the meeting is starting in five minutes.”

Simon started as he saw Claire. He did not think that she would have followed them.

Mason was going to just have Simon wheel him away and leave, but a glint of harshness flashed through his eyes as something occurred to him. “Want to be an assistant? Here’s a job for you.”

In the conference room.

Claire followed behind Mason as they walked in. Her appearance caused looks of surprise on the faces of everyone present.

Everyone knew that Mason had only had Simon at his side. Now that there was the addition of a woman, everyone wanted to know his relationship with her.

It was not that Claire had never been an assistant before, but she had never worked in a setting as large as this. The conference room in Yeich Group was exceptionally large. After all, it was the leading group in North City.

Once inside, Claire felt that the place came with a pressure of its own. Her shoulders dropped a few points without her realizing it as she accepted the various looks thrown towards her.

Until they came to a stop, the eyes of the crowd were fixated on Claire.

“President Yeich, who is this?”

Liam was one of the vice presidents of Yeich Group and was taking part in the meeting. He started lightly when he saw Claire enter the room.

Nervous, Claire pinched the corner of her coat and tried to tell herself that there was nothing to be scared about. As she slowly raised her head and met with the audience’s inquisitive fazes, her eyes met a warm gaze.
