The little boy was evidently trying to win them both over simultaneously.

When all was said and done, the child knew that he and Sarah and James were not real relatives, but strangers who came together by chance.

Therefore, he more or less maintained some level of caution whenever he interacted with them.

Sarah felt distressed when she sensed that.

"Why are you here?" She originally wanted to take Xander to buy stuff too, but she was pressed for time.

Their lunch break was only just over an hour. She had to eat and buy things too. The time was not even enough for adults to get everything done and there would be even less time if she brought a kid along.

After giving it some thought, Sarah decided not to bring Xander with her.

"Uncle Marshall called and asked Nanny Jarvis to bring me here," the little guy said. He then turned his head and pointed to Nanny Jarvis outside the door.

Sarah did not expect James to call Xander, but he was relieved that Xander was subject to his charitableness
