Lyra’s POV

I blinked, heart pounding in my chest as I looked between Ronan and Garrick, searching for some kind of anchor in this sea of confusion.

What had he just called me?

“Seraphina…” the former king whispered again, his eyes still wide, lips trembling like he was seeing a ghost. Like I was a ghost.

I turned to Garrick, who leaned in and murmured with a stunned expression, “Seraphina was the name of the former princess. The one who vanished more than twenty years ago.”

The blood drained from my face. Princess? Vanished? My throat tightened.

I looked back at the former king. He was muttering under his breath, tears building in his eyes, completely unseeing.

“I didn’t fail her… the prophecy… by the gods, the prophecy was real,” he whispered, voice breaking. “I didn’t fail her… I didn’t—”

“What the hell is going on?” Ronan’s sharp voice sliced through the air like a blade.

The old man blinked rapidly and seemed to come back to himself. He straightened slightly in his chair, rubbing

Celeste's povThe ground did not just tremble—it split.Cracks spread across the ancient stones like lightning frozen in rock. The altar at the center of the clearing collapsed inward, revealing a hollow space beneath that glowed with silver light so bright I had to shield my eyes."Everyone back!" Ronan shouted, pulling Lyra and the sleeping child away from the growing crack. But we could not run far. We were exhausted, wounded, surrounded by the aftermath of battle. And something was rising from beneath the shrine—something that made the air itself shimmer with power. The light grew blinding. I felt it wash over me like a wave—not hot, not cold, but just… present. Every nerve in my body sang with awareness. The wounds from the battle stopped hurting. My exhaustion lifted slightly, replaced by a clarity I had never experienced. And then she appeared. The Moon Goddess.I knew it was her without being told. I knew it in the same way I knew my own heartbeat, the way I recognized my own

Celeste's pov Chaos erupted.Ronan's sword was out in an instant, his voice carrying over the clearing. "Protect the child! Form defensive positions!"Our soldiers moved with ease, creating a barrier between the cult members and where Lyra stood holding Daemon. But we were outnumbered—I counted at least thirty cultists pouring from the forest, maybe more hidden in the shadows.Lord Vance raised his hands and shadow magic coiled around his fingers like living serpents. He had stolen power somehow, corrupted himself deliberately. His eyes flickered between normal and solid black."Kill anyone who resists," he commanded. "But the child and the Moon Blessed—take them alive."The cultists rushed forward.I drew my sword—the weapon feeling more natural in my hands now after months of desperate practice. A cultist came at me, wild-eyed and screaming about the Shadow Queen's glory. I parried his first strike, countered with one of my own that opened his shoulder. He fell back and two more to

Celeste's povThe trail led us deeper into wilderness I had never seen before—ancient forest where the trees grew so thick their canopy blocked out the sun. The air itself felt different here, heavy with old magic that made my skin prickle."This place predates both kingdoms," Theron said quietly as we walked. "These are the old woods. The places that existed before wolves built their walls and claimed their territories."The shadow corruption grew stronger as we followed the trail. Dead animals littered the path—birds that had fallen from the sky mid-flight, deer collapsed where they stood. The plants turned black and brittle at our touch. And then we saw it.An ancient shrine rose from the forest floor like a monument to forgotten gods. Stone pillars carved with symbols I did not recognize surrounded a circular clearing. In the center, half-collapsed but still standing, was an altar covered in moss and vines. And huddled at the base of that altar was a woman. She clutched something

Celeste's pov The emergency summit convened within three days of my letter reaching Shadowfang. We met in neutral territory—a small fortress halfway between our kingdoms that had once been a border outpost during the wars. Now it served as a symbol of our alliance, a place where both kingdoms could gather without either feeling they stood on enemy ground. Lyra arrived looking tired but determined, her pregnancy now unmistakable beneath her traveling cloak. Ronan hovered at her side like a protective shadow, one hand always touching her—her elbow, her back, her shoulder—as if he could shield her from danger through proximity alone. King Aldric came with his usual contingent of advisors. And Theron arrived carrying an entire chest of ancient texts and documents he had been studying. I brought Mira and the guard with the same name as her, along with all the evidence we had gathered from the cult investigations. "Thank you all for coming," I said once we had settled around the larg

Celeste's povThe report came three days after my nightmare. One of my guards—a sharp-eyed woman coincidentally named Mira who had proven herself invaluable—requested an urgent audience. I was reviewing trade agreements when she entered my study, her face grim."Your Grace, we found something. Beneath the old merchant district."I set down my quill. "Found what?""A meeting in the uderground. About twenty people gathered in what looks like an old wine cellar." She paused. "They were performing some kind of ritual."My blood ran cold. "Cult activity?""Yes, Your Grace. We arrested them all. They are in the dungeons now, awaiting your orders."I stood immediately. "Take me to them."Mira hesitated. "Your Grace, perhaps it would be better to let the guards handle the interrogations—""No." My voice came out harder than I intended. "These people worship my mother's memory. They are her legacy, her poison still seeping through this kingdom. I need to understand what they want. What they ar

Celeste's povI was summoned to shadows fang two days after meeting Theron.I had kept him under guard in Moonstone while I sent urgent messages to Lyra and Ronan. The old man had been patient, spending his time reading in the guest quarters I had assigned him, never once complaining about the armed guards stationed outside his door. Now we gathered in Shadowfang's great library—a room I had never seen before, filled with ancient books and scrolls that smelled of dust and secrets. Lyra sat in a cushioned chair, her pregnancy now visible beneath her flowing gown. Ronan stood protectively behind her, one hand resting on her shoulder. King Aldric leaned against a bookshelf, his aged eyes sharp and assessing. And Theron stood before us all, looking far too calm for a man who claimed the world was in danger. He was ancient—truly ancient. His skin was wrinkles like old paper, his hair white as fresh snow, his hands gnarled with age. But his eyes were clear and bright, burning with an intell
