Grace's POV.

"Grace? What are you doing all the way out here... by yourself?"

I was a few miles away from the pack house - down by the river that ran through the outer edges of the territory.

I thought that I would be left alone - that no one would come looking for me all the way out here.

After Rhyder's lecture last night, I felt like a sullen child and didn't want to see or talk to anyone.

I also needed some time to think about everything that he had said.

    Meghan's POV.The night was quiet. Maybe a little too quiet.I closed my eyes and listined, training my ears on every sound, no matter how insicnificent it might have been.I heard the slight rustle of the leaves as the evening breeze whisped through them, the rushing of the water from the river nearby, the singing of the crickets as they jumped from one blade of grass to the other.And then...I heard the snapping of twigs and the crunching of soil.The sound was so subtle that an untrained ear easily would have missed it.But my ears weren't untrained... neither was I.The footsteps were heavy - heavy enough to tell me that they came from a human, but not heavy enough to belong to a man.As they neared, I spun round and lunged forward with my claws bared.There was a loud yelp as my hand made contact with warm flesh and then a tumble of limbs and earth.I was on top by the time the dust had settled with my knee firmly pressed into her chest and my hand tightly wrapped around her thr

    Grace's POV. By the time Meghan and I arrived back at the pack house, Rhyder and Tate were up and sitting outside at one of the picknick tables. "Hey, you two. Just in time for brunch." Rhyder smiled and waved us over when he saw us walking toward them. "Mommy! Aunty Meg! Where have you guys been?" Tate ran at us with his arms stretched out in front of him. Meghan stepped in front of me and caught him mid-stride. She spun him around through the air a few times before setting him back fown - Tate shrieked with joy. Meghan ruffled her fingers through his hair. "Hey, little man. You're mom showed me around a little." His little face fell. He crossed his arms over his chest and pushed his bottom lip out. "Why didn't you guys take me with you?" He didn't sound happy at all. Meghan smiled an easy smile and knelt down in front of him.     Grace's POV: I stared at Meghan for a long time trying to figure out if I heard correctly. Was she seriously suggesting that Rhyder and I leave the pack - our home? It didn't make sense. "What do you mean we should leave, Meg?" She didn't hesitate at all. "Maybe too much has happened here for either one of you to really forget and move on. Maybe there are too many painful memories here... and of course there's Alexis. I don't think she's ever going to leave the two of you alone." "So what? The obvious solution is for us to leave? To walk away from our family and leave everything we know behind?"Meghan gently touched her hand to mine. She kept her voice deliberately calm and even."I'm not trying to upset you, G. I don't know you as the type to be scared off by someone else... least of all someone like Alexis."She shrugged."I wasn't scared of her.
