Bright lights blurred my sight as I peeled my eyes open. My eyes hurt and my throat felt extremely parched. I looked to the side to find my sister seated and her eyes brightened up when she saw I was awake.

“Aiden! Oh my gosh, you’re awake. Thank goodness!” she exclaimed before pulling me in for a hug and Sophia suddenly showed up before me, a small nervous smile on her face.

“Hey” I croaked and her smile widened a little.

“Hi, Aiden” she returned, her voice low and soft and my sister finally let me go.

“I’ll call the doctor” she announced and with that, she was gone, leaving just me and Sophia alone in the room.

She kept avoiding my eyes and I knew why she wouldn’t look at me. She felt guilty about leaving me like last yesterday but it wasn’t her fault. Her fears were valid and it was okay if she needed to be alone.
