“Aiden, there's something I need to tell you” Sophia said, her voice sounding grave as she looked at me with fear in her eyes.

I could tell at once that whatever she had to say wouldn't be good. I wasn't going to like it but it was definitely something I needed to know.

“Go on, tell me, Sophia” I encouraged her to speak and more fear settled in her eyes.

I watched her sit up while she fidgeted with her hands and I noticed how she'd begun to avoid my gaze.

“Promise you won't lose your temper. I'm about to talk about something sensitive” she finally spoke and I nodded in return.

“I won't lose my temper” I said but she gave me a look and I smiled.

“I promise” I added and she sighed in relief.

“It's about Clara” she began and the mood around us dampened. In reaction, I adjusted on the edge of the bed and fixed her a closer look.

She was right. It was indeed a sensitive topic and I couldn't help but wonder why she was suddenly bringing up Clara as our topic of discussion.
