Chapter 29

Freya's POV

How could one man have two different personalities all in a day? He had kissed me the night before, teased me in the morning, but then he suddenly changed. The height of it all was leaving me all by myself to drive on the highway.

I've tried so hard, promised myself not to look at him. After all, he was Ambrose's brother, but I just couldn't stop myself from adoring him. Ever since that night, I couldn't get the image of him out of my mind. But then, I was hoping he'd apologize or bring up excuses for leaving me. Instead, he frowned, like it was my responsibility to be at work.

"Freya!" I could hear him calling my name. A part of me wanted to go over to him, but I knew he didn't mean it. After all, Emma was present. It was only a part of the game. I walked away after a few minutes.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked, fear and shock all over my voice, as a young lady held a phone, running and panting, almost colliding with me.

"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Smith. But I think you

Chapter 30 Ambrose's POV I settled into my office chair, rocking gently as I turned to gaze out the window. My phone was pressed to my ear, and a wicked smile spread across my face. "How was Micahel's reaction when he saw the news flashing right into his eyes on his phone?" I asked, my voice dripping with curiosity. The person on the other end of the line snorted. "Micahel felt down, but that wench of a woman is probably with him right now. I don't know why she's working for her husband, but she's probably with him." I smiled to myself, pleased that my plan was going as expected. I had asked Emma to go over to Micahel's company and see his reaction, but I hadn't expected Freya butting in and ruining my plans. I thought their marriage was fake, but now I was beginning to wonder. Was she helping Micahel now? A spark of anger ignited within me. Let's see how far she'll go with her precious son in my hands and her mother's life at the tip of my fingers. The line went dead, and I

Chapter 31Freya's POVMy heart broke to hear Waylen's words; that there was no way I was going to be his mother since I was Michael's wife. "Baby.." I'd suddenly whispered, hearing his last statement. He looked clueless and confused as he kept looking at his father. My son only admired me from afar; he didn't recognize me."Waylen, excuse Uncle Michael's wife and me. Come on, Uncle Raymond is out there," Ambrose said coldly, without any empathy in his tone, as he went over to open the door. Fear suddenly possessed me, Raymond presence means my secret weren't safe. But then, this was my son in front of me. Besides, I don't think he knew that much about Ambrose."It won't be bad to have him here with us. After all, he doesn't understand everything that's going on," I said, looking directly into his eyes. I was prepared for anything that would happen."Are you crazy, Freya? Fine, if you want the little boy to..." Ambrose began."Dad, do you hate Unc' Michael's wife?" Waylen cut in, sc

In fact, I'm on my bed. Don't flatter yourself, Rogers. No one is waiting for you.]I sent back, standing up and getting my briefcase and suit. I was such a fool to think I wasted almost two hours waiting for Freya."Dumb woman," I muttered, but unexpectedly, I smiled, re-reading the message for the third time, a sense of amusement still lingering on my face, picturing her voice with the texts."Don't be a fool, Michael," I muttered, taking a deep breath. As I walked into the elevator, I met Jason in there, bowing his head with a smile. I looked away, sighing and shaking my head. How do I avoid Jason without regretting it?"C'mon, man. I guess your wife asked you to go home after waiting for

How dare she have the audacity to show up at my home after everything she had done?I could hear the sounds of laughter and chatter, indicating that my cousins were present. It was high time I took actions and put an end to this gathering."Michael! Sweetheart," Emma cooed, approaching me with a fake smile. "I've been here for over two hours. Do you often stay this late at work?" She asked, as she reached out to hug me, but I swiftly freed myself from her grasp."You!" I exclaimed, my voice low and frightening. "Why did you come back?" I glared at Alexis, who stood with her arms folded, watching Emma's little drama with a mixture of happiness and curiousity. The nerve of them, thinking they could play me for a fool again."Get out!" My mom was getting better now, and I was so glad."I'm so sorry, mom. It's only for six months. After six months, everything will go back to how it was," I spoke so softly as she raised her hand, wiping the little tears off my face. "Mom, I'm so glad you're okay. I mean, look at you. Naomi really did a wonderful job in caring for you. I really...""That's why I want you to stop stressing the poor girl. Get married and bear a grandchild for me," my mom snapped with a frown on her face as my mouth opened suddenly, never expecting their words from her."C'mon, mum. Even if I bear a child, there's no way that child would be able to watch over you all of a sudden," I paused, "besides, I'm not ready for that right now," I said, my voice trailing off."My child," my mom calle

Chapter 35Freya's POVI kept waiting for Michael to finish his statement. I knew there was nothing sensible about his words. Michael was like a wind tossed back and forth. He'll act so lovely a minute, and the next, he's back to his usual behavior. I knew how hurt he must be to have lost his sister, to have no one by his side who loved him genuinely. But couldn't he see the fact that I was willing to do anything for him? Even if it meant staying with him, getting used to his cold ways, and assuring him that I'll be there for him. But then, he hurt me.To Michael, I was Freya Rogers, his contract wife. "Freya...I'm not really the type to say sorry," he started, staring at me as my inner self got soaked with shock. I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.I felt a pang of remorse for being hard on her earlier. I wanted her to apologize, but seeing her like this made me realize that I needed to be the one to make amends. I hadn't been able to focus on work for the past three days due to Jason's absence from work after the news of his sister's kidnapping."Michael," Freya called from outside, and I knew how worried she had been these past few days. I had rejected Mrs. Cooke's meals, and at one point, I lost my temper with Freya. But here she was, worried about me."I know you don't want me here now, and you want to be alone. But Michael, you have to eat something. In an hour's time, we'll go over to Grandpa's. You shouldn't look like this, and..." Her words were cut off the moment I opened the door. And besides, the cops were never present in times like these."What on Earth do you know? Tell it to me," Michael asked fiercely, looking at Raymond's direction, whose gaze was fixed on me."Call the priest, everyone here is ready for a ceremony," Ambrose said as he moved closer to Michael, whose face was bruised, and his looks were sending fire. He said something I couldn't quite hear, and not long, I was taken away into the inner room for a quick makeup. It took less than ten minutes, and I was accompanied out by the man who had dolled me up. Chapter 136Raymond's POVThe weight of Freya's words kept taking my attention away. I closed my eyes for a while, thinking deeply about whether letting her go alone was the right thing to do. Somehow, I wondered if Jason was right about it all. I rolled my eyes, bringing myself back from the trance."You'll have a whole lot to explain to Michael. He just told me to keep Freya with me, that he was going to settle things with the officers," Jason said, his voice seeming to disrupt the awful silence that grew between us."Are you serious about what you said the other time?" I asked softly as he tried to play dumb. "Come on, Jason, you know what I'm talking about. Did Michael really come visit Freya alone and... the presents?" He nodded his head gently as I took a deep sigh."I mean... Freya had rejected the whole present, thinking it was from her mysterious husband. I asked, my voice shaking. "Of course, we need to tell it to Jason. I can't keep this from him.""What do you mean? Michael's getting married, and I really don't want this baby to... come into his marriage," I said, and somehow, I could see the resignation in his expression."You could hurt the baby, you know?" He whispered as I shook my head, trying to be strong. "I'll be fine. Just go be with Jason and wait," I said as he nodded. "Be careful," he warned before leaving as I wiped away the little tears that had plastered on my face.A few moments later, I found myself in front of a beautiful yet small house. Chapter 134Freya's POVI began to shake as we drove down a lonely bush path. Raymond held my hands in assurance, but it felt like that wasn't enough. I wanted more than just that... I needed Michael's warm embrace, I needed to feel his warm breath on me whispering to me that everything would be okay."Jason," I called as he replied with his eyes still fixed on the road as he drove with his cellphone mounted in front, which guided him with the direction. "Is... is... Michael coming already?" I asked, my voice so low, but I didn't think I needed to appear like I was fine without him. "Yes, Freya... Michael's coming." I nodded as I fixed my eyes on the wristwatch again as a private number appeared again as the caller ID. I picked it up immediately, fully aware that it was Ambrose."Hey... do you really not care about your mother? How aged she is that she can't even withstand the cold on her?" he mocked as he laughed loudly while my hand shook while holding the cellphone, but I tried

The thought of seeing Freya so comfortable without me by her side, her sudden closeness with Raymond, and how she didn't even realize that I had stopped her from going out there because I still cared for her. "You're so stupid, so stupid," I muttered, closing my eyes to take a deep breath when Grandpa's call came into my phone. "Grandpa," I finally said after the third ring, as I heard him clear his throat from the receiver end. I wondered why he had called; it was always about the damn marriage."Haven't you seen the news? Where did Ambrose take the little boy and his grandmother to?" he asked, and I detected panic in his voice. "You should hurry over and do something quick," he said, as I let out a low chuckle. How on Earth did he get to know about it? "Grandpa, why do you suddenly care about the Rogers?" I asked, and

"Raymond, we need to get to Grandpa," I said, almost going closer, as Michael stepped in between. His towering height once more intimidated me as he gave me a long, piercing gaze. "I will not let you go on that road in search of them; I won't ever allow that," Michael said authoritatively, as I couldn't stop myself from laughing. "What on earth does he take me for right now?" I thought. I refused to be stupid, not to him nor Ambrose. "Dare me if you can, Mr. Michael Smith Jenkins," I said in gritted teeth as I moved closer to him, like I was daring him for a challenge. "May I have a moment with her, please?" he said softly, as the two nodded about leaving while I moved closer to Raymond, still locking eyes with him. "We

Here I was, complete, as I closed my eyes for a while before retiring to the chair."Boss," Jason called as soon as he placed a knock on the door, and my expression turned sour. The word 'boss' was very foreign, hearing it from a friend I took more than a brother."Where is he? Have you found him?" I asked, my palm on my face as I took a deep breath."Have you reported the message he sent to you to the cops? I've tried tracking down the message, but somehow, I can't get any signal," he said as I stood, narrowing my eyes as I kept staring outside the window, like I could get a hint from there."And Raymond?
