KIANA POV

I do not move.

The sound is faint.

Almost nothing.

But I hear it.

I am awake now.

Completely.

My breathing slows as I keep my eyes closed, pretending. Listening.

There it is again.

A shift.

A presence.

Not imagination.

Not a dream.

Someone is in my room.

My heart begins to beat faster, but I force my body to remain still. The blankets rise and fall with my controlled breaths.

Think.

If I react too quickly, I lose whatever advantage I have.

The air feels different.

Heavier.

Colder.

IDRA POVI return to Lila. Not immediately. Not recklessly.I take my time.Enough to ensure no one notices the shift in my movements. Enough to make it seem as though nothing has changed.Because nothing should.Nothing must. When I step into her chambers again, she is exactly where I expect her to be.Composed.Waiting.Her eyes lift the moment she sees me, and a slow smile forms on her lips.“My king,” she says softly. There is something knowing in her tone.Something that tells me she understands more than she should.I walk toward her, my expression unreadable.“You did well,” I say.The words are measured.Carefully chosen. Her smile deepens.“I always do,” she replies. There is pride in her voice.Satisfaction.She steps closer, searching my face as if trying to read what lies beneath.“You came back,” she adds. “That means you were pleased.”I hold her gaze.“I am.”The answer is simple.Clean.Exactly what she expects. But that is not why I am here.My expression shifts sligh

  • The human queen    Chapter 30: A Gift I Refuse to Accept

KING IDRA POV 👑 👑, My wing is finally ready. I stand at the entrance for a moment, taking everything in. It is beautiful. More than I expected. The walls are freshly restored, the floors polished, the air lighter than before. Sunlight filters through the tall windows, settling gently across the room as if nothing bad has ever happened here. As if this place has never been broken. I step inside slowly. Every detail feels new. Carefully placed. Perfect. But something in me does not settle. Not completely. “I think it looks better than before, my lady,” Fiona says softly behind me. I nod. “It does.” But beauty does not erase memory. I walk further inside, letting my fingers brush lightly against the surfaces. Then my thoughts drift elsewhere. The garden. “I want to plant edible plants,” I say. “Vegetables. Fruits.” Fiona smiles. “That would be wonderful.” I nod again. Something simple. Something that belongs to me. Not given. Not controlled. Mine. I step outs

  • The human queen    Chapter 29: What I Refuse to Name

KING IDRA POV 👑, The moment Kiana speaks, I feel it. A presence. Faint. But unmistakable. Vampires. My senses sharpen instantly. I release her and turn toward the darkness, my gaze cutting through the shadows. For a brief second, everything is still. Then they move. Fast. Retreating. Running. They have already sensed me. Cowards. I do not chase. There is no need. I already know who sent them. Lila. The thought settles coldly in my mind. Behind me, Kiana is still trembling. I turn back to her. She looks terrified. Not controlled. Not quiet. Terrified. Her hands shake, her breathing uneven as she looks around as if expecting them to return at any moment. I cannot leave her like this. The realization comes before I can stop it. “It is alright,” I say, my voice lower now. “I will not leave you.” She looks at me as if searching for something in my words. Then she nods slightly. I guide her to the bed. She moves slowly, her body still tense as she sits down.

  • The human queen    Chapter 28: The Fear I Cannot Ignore

KING IDRA POV 👑 👑 ,“Good morning, Queen Viola.”My voice is calm.Controlled.I do not look at Kiana. Not at first. Then I do.Only briefly.Just enough. My gaze settles on her, sharp, deliberate.A command without words.Leave.She understands.Of course she does. She rises immediately and walks away without a single protest.Silence follows her departure.Heavy.Uncomfortable.“Why do you treat her so coldly?”Viola’s voice cuts through it.I turn to her slowly.“She is your wife.”I say nothing for a moment. Then, simply, “She is not important.”The words come easily.Too easily.I shift my attention fully to Viola. “I came to check on you. We have not spent much time together.”She studies me.Carefully.“That is alright,” she says softly. “You should spend time with your new wife.”“No.”The answer is immediate.“I will spend the night with you today.”Something flickers in her eyes. But she shakes her head.“No, Idra. Kiana will be spending her nights in my wing until her cha

  • The human queen    Chapter 27: A Dangerous Understanding

KIANA POV 👑 👑, I try to move. But I cannot. A strong arm is wrapped around me, holding me in place. For a moment, confusion clouds my thoughts. My body feels heavy, slow, as if I am still caught between sleep and waking. Then I open my eyes. The room comes into view. Large. Dim. Familiar in a way that makes my breath catch. King Idra’s chambers. Everything comes back at once. The garden. The poison. The exhaustion. The bath. The chair. I fall asleep on the chair. So why Am I in his bed? I stiffen. My heart begins to beat faster as I realize just how close I am to him. The arm around me. His arm. I sit up immediately. The movement is sudden, breaking whatever stillness had settled between us. He opens his eyes. Calm. Unbothered. “Oh… I am sorry,” I say quickly. “I did not mean to wake you.” His gaze settles on me. Cold. Unreadable. Then it shifts. Lower. To the shirt I am wearing. My breath catches. His shirt. The white fabric drapes over me, far
