LOGINAria’s POV:
Every teenage girl has a fantasy man, the one they fantasize a world with every night they place their head on a pillow and try to sleep.
They want a world where they are treated like a queen, a world where that man will kill demons and break walls just to be with them.
And Ava said, This man before me looks exactly like that man teenage girls fantasize about.
He was so close, his blue eyes burrowing into me; he craned his neck and snapped a finger at my face. “Are you listening to me?” Liam asked, and I cleared my throat embarrassedly and took a step backward.
“Why does it bother you that I showed up?”
“Because you are not ready to be free,” he replied, and I had a confused look. What did he mean by that? I wasn’t a prisoner, so what the fuck did he mean by I wasn’t ready to be free?
“Can you explain that to me like I was 5?” I had a curious look, really curious to know what he meant by I wasn’t free.
“You are too reserved, Burgundy, too careful, and just too polite.”
I nodded in understanding. “And I don’t understand how that’s a bad thing.”
Liam brought his hand close to my face; my breath hitched as I anticipated his touch, but he didn’t, he didn’t touch me.
“Say yes. Say yes, and I will show you what I mean.”
I bit my lip and scanned the place; the streets were noisy, but right now I was focused on the man before me. He was asking for my permission to do whatever was on his mind, and the sin was that I wanted him to show me.
I had nothing to lose, so I nodded. “Go on.”
Liam extended a hand to me. “Come.”
I stared at his hand and chose to do as he says. Since I had given him the go-ahead, I accepted his hand as we walked back to the garage.
“Hey everyone, listen up,” Liam said out loud, gaining everyone’s attention… Now everyone was looking at us, which made my toes curl as I hid behind him.
“This is Aria, and she is here to have fun, no hostility, okay?”
“Okay,” they all screamed in unison before a boy hurried to us with a bottle and two glasses.
“Try this; there is no fun without this,” he laughed and handed me a glass. I hesitantly took it as he poured a white content in it.
“It’s made with corn,” Liam explained and drank the entire content in his glass. “Try it.” He kept staring at me, and I really didn’t want to.
“Aria…Aria…Aria,” Julian kept singing as everyone joined in.
Now that I was placed in the spot, I poured the entire content in my mouth and could still feel the corn chaff on my tongue, but it was soothing.
“One more,” I said excitedly as the guy poured another.
Liam smiled at me before he nudged me to follow him. We walked to the back of the garage, and there were vacant seats; it was more quiet here.
“Liam” Salmon called out excitedly; he stood up and extended his hand to Liam. “You are my blood; do you see this joy? It’s all possible because of you.”
“Stop being emotional; it doesn’t suit you.” Liam scoffed and pointed at the chair before I sat down.
The table was filled with that meat I ate earlier. Liam handed a stick to me, and I quickly began eating.
“Who is this Liam?” Salmon asked, his wife joining while staring at me with a smile.
“I know you,” she muttered and went into deep thoughts, probably trying to figure out where she knows me from.
“She is a fiction writer,” Liam said.
“I have much respect for that profession; it takes a smart mind to build up a world on its own…I mean, you are like a god,” Salmon kept complimenting before Julian joined us.
“Okay, man, we’re done with the fun part. Let’s get down to business.” Julian pulled a chair and joined us; he retracted a sticky note from his pocket and wrote down some numbers.
“That’s the amount; now do a transfer.” He shoved the paper to Salmon, who scoffed.
“You all don’t expect me to pay? Right, Liam?”
Liam swiped his phone and placed it on the table; it displayed his bank details.
“Come on, I was locked up for up to a month. You know I have no money.” Salmon kept pleading, but Liam was busy eating the meat.
“Don’t even start, man. You think I don’t know your men have been handling business while you were locked up? I dropped all my work and focused on this case; I even wasted gas to pick Liam up from the airport,” Julian explained, on the verge of tears.
“Just pay up.” Salmon’s wife said, and he stared at his wife in disbelief.
“Whose side are you on?”
“Come on, you know you can’t even afford Liam, so just pay him the little he asks from you,” she sneered, and now he was left with no choice; he retracted his phone and stared at the paper.
Julian wrote 100,000.
He turned to Liam. “Come on, bro… I am your brother.”
Julian hit the table. “Just pay up so Liam can give my cut already; don’t dare mix money with family.”
“This money is worthless for Liam; didn’t he just win the big case back in Italy? I am sure that mafia lord paid him five times this, so why do you need a poor man’s money?” Salmon feigned tears, and Julian pointed at me.
“There is a guest here, so don’t dare make us look bad; just pay up.”
Finally, he gave in and sent the money to Liam. Liam took his phone and kept it in his pocket.
“I will go cry in my bedroom.” Salmon stood up and left with his wife trailing behind him.
Julian laughed hard before he faced Liam. “You send my share, okay? It’s good to have you back, bro.” He stood up and left.
Now it was left just to us, and I stared at Liam, whose gaze was on me as well.
Aria’s POV:It was extremely hard trying to lie to yourself, but it was even harder to make a stranger feel you can’t do without him.Right now, Liam was just another stranger in my life… someone I meet during one of my tough times, and we don’t bond, we don’t argue… We just go our separate ways.“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I cleared my throat and tried to switch the topic. “You said I was fake, so why read my book?”Liam picked up the book. “This is the only one I find interesting,” he stated, and it made no sense; I wrote that book years ago when I thought it was fun.I had no plans of publishing; all I wanted was to write a story and to appreciate the hero who showed up in my life during my darkest moments. It didn’t make much sense. “Okay. It seems you have no interest in paying up, so I will leave.”He nodded, his gaze on the book. He was back to his reading while I was still present; this was my cue to leave.I stood up and spotted his box of unpacked stuff. “Do
Aria’s POV:Liam stood there, dressed in casuals and also had glasses on… It made him look smart and soft; his hair was rough, and he looked so tired. His lips curled to a smile before he leaned against the doorway. “Burgundy,” he muttered in an amused tone.I cleared my throat; I didn’t come here to bond with him or entertain him.“You owe me.” I didn’t expect this to be the first word to leave my mouth, but it was a great start. I didn’t want him to have the wrong impression that I had come here for another reason.Liam chuckled and took off his reading glasses. “Come in.”“No, once I have my money, then I will be on my way,” I explained. There was no need for me to go in; we had no relationship… We weren’t even friends.“Come on in, Burgundy.”I breathed heavily before walking in; he closed the door behind me and returned to the couch… There was an open book on the table. And I couldn’t believe it; it was my book.It was the first book I ever published, “My Hero in the Dark.”A smi
Aria’s POV:I leaned closer to Sam and watched the video she was watching; it was just one of Liam walking out of court… He didn’t even say anything to the press.“Liar,” I scoffed. For a moment I thought he was really coming back to America.“I am not, okay? He didn’t say it directly to the press, but he posted it.”I rolled my eyes. “He doesn’t have an account.”I had searched everywhere but couldn’t find his account, so I figured he must not be a fan of the internet.“He has.” Sam scrolled on her phone before shoving it in my face.It was a Twitter account; the profile photo was Liam’s, but the name was not anything related to Liam Styles. It was Mr. Consegnare. In his latest post, he tweeted, “Going home for a break, no more cases.”He was coming back. Our path could cross again.Wait.“Umm…What if he meant home as in his home in Italy?” I questioned, and Sam laughed.“Why are you so interested in this man?” Ava asked in disbelief, and I pouted. Was it wrong to ask a question?“Do
Aria’s POV:Mother walked and sat next to me before she rubbed my back. “You know how upset your father gets at times, so stop crying, okay?”I nodded and cleaned my tears.Caleb stood up and scanned the sitting room; I noticed his eyes grow sore, but I didn’t want to be affected by it, so I looked away.“Umm…I will leave now,” he said. Neither Mother nor Gigi answered as he found his way out of the house, and I pulled my hair and stomped my foot on the ground.“I don’t want to move in, Mother.” Why was Father asking me to move in? I didn’t want to live with no freedom anymore, a life where he controls when I go out and when I come in.I didn’t want that.“What’s so wrong with moving in? You got divorced, and instead of coming back home, you chose to stay there alone,” Mother scolded with a frown. “If you think your family isn’t important and you don’t need us, then feel free to leave. It’s not like we could hold you back,” she scoffed and left. Now I had pissed off even Mother. My fa
Aria’s POV:I nudged at Mother, who shook her head and signaled I eat quietly. “Just come in and eat already,” I said with a loud tone, and Caleb nodded. He walked in and bowed slightly. “Good day, Father, Mother…Gigi,” he greeted, but Gigi scoffed loudly.Caleb pulled the chair next to me, and Mother pushed a plate towards him; she didn’t want to talk to him, but after all, she was a mother. We ate silently till we were done. I helped Mother clean the table, and now we were in the kitchen with Gigi, and I was drying the dishes.“I don’t understand why your father invited him over,” Mother said with an irritated tone as she passed the plate for me to dry.“This time around he really crossed a line.” She smacked her lips, and Gigi sighed.“Divorce isn’t a joke; the kids had gone too far,” Gigi muttered while staring at me, and I pouted. I didn’t go far. That was the best solution to this relationship.“Aria,” Father called, and I almost dropped what I was holding.I turned to Mother, w
Aria’s POV:One…two…threeIt was three days since I went my separate way with Liam; he dropped me at my place and drove off, and I am sure he must be in Italy right now.I was getting dressed to have dinner with my parents; Father was back and wanted to see me. I knew I had a long night, as it won’t be easy trying to explain things to Father. After staring at my reflection in the mirror, I brushed my hand through my hair… He said it was pretty, but maybe he is just a liar.I pulled my drawer and took out the scissors, gathered my hair in my hand, and was about to cut it, but it was hard.My hands trembled as the scissors fell off.RingMy ringing phone brought me out of my trance. I checked the caller, and it was Caleb.“What?” I scolded once the call got connected.“Umm…sorry,” he apologized, and I sighed heavily; I was just in a bad mood.“Why are you calling Caleb?”“Father called me; he asked I pick you up on my way.”My brows furrowed. Which father? Did his parents finally return
