The hotel room smelled like medicine and rain.

Soft beeps from a heart monitor filled the quiet. Kael lay motionless on the bed, pale against the white sheets, thick bandages wrapped around his chest and back. Some were stained dark where blood had soaked through.

The doctor from the Forgotten had been blunt.

The bullets missed his heart. Barely.

Liora hadn’t left his side in two days.

She sat in a chair pulled close, his hand clasped in both of hers, her head resting on the edge of the bed. Her eyes were swollen and red from crying. Sleep came only in short, broken stretches—every time she drifted off, she woke in panic, terrified he’d be gone.

Ethan slept in the next room, safe, with Kira watching over him. The little boy asked about Kael every hour. He’d drawn pictures of wolves—big ones, smiling ones—and left them neatly on the table.

Liora traced Kael’s fingers gently.

Old scars. New wounds.

Strong hands that had held her through storms.

“Please wake up,” she whispered, her voice hoarse. “I can’t do this without you. Not again.”

Tears fell onto his hand.

---

Memories filled the quiet.

The night after the garage escape.

The back seat of the car. Rain pounding hard overhead. Clothes half-off. Bodies desperate.

Kael’s mouth on her breast, sucking hard while his hand squeezed the other firmly. She’d moaned, arching into him, nails digging into his shoulders.

He’d pushed inside her deep, thrusting steady at first—then faster when she begged. His hands grabbed her breasts again, thumbs rubbing her nipples rough until she gasped.

“You’re mine,” he’d growled low, silver eyes wild.

She’d come hard, legs tight around him, pulling him deeper. He followed with a groan, holding her like he’d never let go.

After, tangled and breathing hard, he’d whispered,

“No more running. You and me.”

She smiled through fresh tears now.

“You promised,” she murmured.

---

Kira came in quietly later, setting a bowl of soup on the table. Liora didn’t touch it.

“He’s strong,” Kira said softly. “Shifter blood. He’ll pull through.”

Liora nodded, though fear still sat heavy in her chest.

---

On the third day, sunlight finally broke through the clouds.

Golden light spilled across Kael’s face.

His fingers twitched.

Liora sat up so fast the chair scraped. “Kael?”

His eyelids fluttered.

Silver eyes opened slowly—blurry, then focused.

“Liora…” His voice was weak, rough.

She broke.

A sob tore from her as she leaned in, pressing her forehead to his. “You’re awake. Oh God—you’re awake.”

He tried to smile and winced from the pain. “Told you… hard to kill.”

She kissed his lips gently, careful, tears pouring down her face.

“Don’t ever scare me like that again,” she cried.

He lifted his hand slowly, cupping her cheek, wiping a tear with his thumb. “Sorry. Had to end it.”

“You did,” she whispered. “Vortigern’s gone. His body washed up downstream. Confirmed dead.”

Relief softened his eyes. “Good.”

Kira poked her head in, grinning wide. “He’s up. Told you.”

Word spread quickly. The Forgotten came by in quiet waves—soft smiles, careful pats on the shoulder. Later, Ethan ran in and hugged Kael gently.

“You’re my hero,” the boy said shyly.

Kael ruffled his hair weakly. “Protecting family. Always.”

---

Days passed.

Kael healed fast—shifter strength doing its work. Bandages came off. He moved carefully, but stronger each day.

Liora never left.

She slept beside him, helped him sit up, brought him food he actually ate.

One night, when the pain meds wore off and sleep wouldn’t come, she climbed into the bed carefully and curled against his good side.

“Better?” she asked softly.

He nodded, wrapping an arm around her. “Always better with you.”

The kiss started slow. Gentle.

Then need rose—quiet, intense.

Three years apart. Near death. Too much feeling.

She straddled him carefully, keeping pressure off his wounds, pulling his shirt off slowly. His hands went to her waist, then up—cupping her breasts, thumbs brushing her nipples through her bra until she gasped.

He unhooked it, his mouth finding her instantly—gentle at first, then deeper. One hand squeezed the other breast firmly, pinching lightly.

“Kael…” she moaned softly.

He groaned low—pain and want tangled together.

She guided him inside her slowly. Both of them sighed at the feeling.

Home.

She moved gently, rocking her hips steady, hands light on his chest. He grabbed her breasts again, kneading as she rode him slow, eyes locked with hers.

“Love you,” he whispered rough.

“Love you forever,” she breathed.

They finished together, quiet and trembling, holding on.

After, she lay beside him, head on his shoulder.

“We made it,” she said sleepily. “All of us.”

He kissed her hair. “Yeah.”

---

A week later, Kael walked strong. His wounds were scars now.

That evening, they sat on the hotel roof—city lights below, stars above in a rare clear sky. Ethan slept safely inside.

Liora leaned against Kael’s shoulder. “What now?”

He took her hand. “We leave the city. Find somewhere quiet. Raise Ethan right. Build a family.”

She smiled, happy tears shining. “Our family.”

He kissed her deeply. “Yeah. Starting with you as my wife.”

She laughed softly. “Yes. A thousand times yes.”

Peace felt real.

But the next morning, Kira knocked, urgency written on her face.

“Bad news,” she said. “Vortigern’s second—Riven. He’s gathering what’s left of the Shadows. Says he’ll finish what his boss started.”

Kael’s eyes turned silver, cold.

Liora’s hand tightened in his.

“And,” Kira added quietly, “he knows about the Silverfang bloodline. Says the last one won’t live long.”

Kael stood tall.

Peace was short.

Another storm was coming.

But this time, he wasn’t alone.

He had Liora.

Ethan.

The Forgotten.

And a reason to fight harder than ever.

Because now, he had everything to lose.

And he’d burn the world before letting anyone take it.

Shadowhaven City never truly slept. Street lights glowed soft yellow all night long, rain made the roads shine, and every dark alley held its own secrets. Beneath the busy streets, old families with special powers fought quiet battles—some could turn into wolves, some could do magic, and some ran dangerous gangs that controlled the night. Kael Vaelor was only ten years old when his whole life fell apart. It was a stormy night. Thunder boomed and rain hammered the windows of the big family house on the hill. His dad, Thorne Vaelor, was the leader of the Silverfang clan. They were wolf shifters with silver eyes and strength that made people respect and fear them. But that night, fear came knocking. Kael was supposed to be asleep, but he crept to the top of the stairs to listen. His mom, Elara, was talking worriedly with his dad in the large living room below. “They wouldn’t dare attack us here,” his dad said, his voice deep and sure. “Not in our own home.” His mom sounded scared.
