The storage room door clicked shut, locking us in dark, suffocating privacy.

My back hit the cold stone wall hard, my lungs gasping for air. My torn jumpsuit hung off my shoulder, exposing the red, bruised thumbprints Officer Graves had left on my collarbone. My whole body shook—half from the sheer terror of Graves’s hands on me, half from the sudden, overwhelming wave of heat radiating off the man standing inches away.

Kael didn't say a word. The cold, detached mask he wore in the hallways shattered into a thousand jagged pieces.

He moved like an apex predator, stepping directly into my space. He grabbed my wrists, hauling my hands up over my head and pinning them against the wall above me with one iron grip. His heavy body slammed flush against mine, crushing the air out of my chest.

“He touched you,” Kael growled, his storm-gray eyes black with raw, possessive fury. His heavy chest heaved against mine, his pulse frantic against my ribs. “The bastard had his hands on your skin.”

“Kael—” I gasped, my head tilting back against the stone.

He didn't let me speak. Kael brought his free hand up, his broad, calloused palm clamping around my jaw, tilting my face up. His thumb pressed hard against my lower lip, dragging it down until my mouth parted.

“You think I’m protecting you because of prison politics?” Kael whispered, his rough voice vibrating straight down my spine. His mouth hovered millimeters from mine, his scorching breath fanning across my face. “You think I give a fuck about the balance in this block? I saved you because looking at you drives me out of my fucking mind.”

Before I could breathe, his mouth crashed onto mine.

The kiss was violent, filthy, and completely possessive. It wasn't a rescue; it was a total takeover. His tongue breached my mouth, taste-testing the blood on my lip, claiming every inch of me while his hand tightened on my jaw.

A loud, shameful moan ripped from my throat. My knees buckled under the intensity, but Kael caught me, his lower body grinding hard into mine. Through the thin canvas of our jumpsuits, I felt his heavy, throbbing hardness pressing right against my groin.

The friction sent a shockwave of electric heat straight down into my belly. My body betrayed me instantly—pulsing, aching, begging for the very thing that terrified me seconds ago. I twisted against him, my legs instinctively parting as I tried to get closer to the scorching heat between his thighs.

Kael groaned, a low, guttural sound in his chest. He released my wrists, his heavy hands sliding down my arms, ripping my jumpsuit down to my waist. Cold air hit my bare chest, but it was immediately replaced by the searing heat of his palms.

His rough hands gripped my hips, digging into the soft flesh above my pants, squeezing until it borderline hurt. He lifted me slightly, pressing my bare back against the rough stone wall, pinning my pelvis directly against his.

“Look at me,” Kael demanded, pulling his lips an inch from mine, his breath ragged and heavy.

I opened my eyes, dizzy, trembling, my lips swollen and wet.

“You’re mine, Hart,” Kael growled, his fingers digging deeper into my hips, holding me completely at his mercy as he nudged his thigh roughly between my legs, sending another violent jolt of pleasure straight through my spine. “Graves, Vance, the cartel—if any of them come near you again, I’m going to paint these walls with their blood. But in here? Behind this door? You’re going to give me everything you’ve been hiding.”

“Take it,” I rasped, completely undone, my hands digging into the heavy muscle of his shoulders, pulling his mouth back down to mine. “Kael, please... take it.”

A heavy boot suddenly kicked the outside of the storage door.

“Reaper!” a guard yelled through the wood. “Count in five minutes! Get your detail moving!”

Kael froze, his mouth hovering over my throat. His muscles coiled tight as granite. He let out a dark curse against my skin, taking one last bite of my jawline before slowly pulling back.

His storm-gray eyes burned into mine, completely uninhibited, promising absolute ruin the next time we were alone. He pulled my jumpsuit back up over my shoulders, his rough thumb wiping a tear off my cheek.

“Jumpsuit up, Hart,” Kael ordered softly, his voice thick with unspent lust as he threw the iron latch open. “The show isn't over yet.”

The rain had stopped by 0430 hours, leaving the narrow utility catacombs thick with wet sulfur and heavy, stagnant fog.Miller met us near the disused secondary air intake behind B-Block. He didn't carry his nightstick, and his eyes darted nervously down the damp stone tunnel every three seconds."I shouldn't even be giving you this," Miller rasped, lowering his voice until it barely carried over the steady drip of condensation from the ceiling pipes. "The transport detail for Detroit leaves at 0600. But a former IT contractor from your old Chicago firm—a guy named Lawson—just got booked into Sector 1 on a bogus municipal tax charge."I took a sharp step forward, my pulse quickening. "Lawson? He ran the secondary server infrastructure for my department. He was on duty the night the `$14 Million` wire transfer was executed from my terminal.""He knows he isn't surviving his first week in Sector 1," Miller said, handing Kael a heavy iron pass-key. "He's terrified. He told the intake lie

It was a subtle, involuntary betrayal of my own body, a sudden loss of gravity that caught me completely off guard.Kael’s broad hand moved instantly, his calloused fingers catching my elbow, taking my weight before I could hit the damp concrete floor of Storage Bay 4. He pulled me up smoothly, anchoring me against his side, but he didn't say a word. His storm-gray eyes were locked on the silent loudspeaker overhead, his jaw clenched so tight the muscle twitched rhythmically beneath his scarred skin."An appellate directive," I rasped. My voice sounded thin, frail, completely stripped of its usual analytical precision. "They opened the docket, Kael. The federal judge actually opened the docket."For two long, excruciating years, I h

The words hung in the sulfur-scented air of Storage Bay 4, cold and heavy as iron. *'Never let them find the boy.'* My hands trembled where they rested on Kael’s forearms. The quiet life I had remembered—the suburban house in Illinois, the quiet dinners, the mundane routine of a boy raised by a municipal engineer and a middle-school teacher—shattered into a thousand unrecoverable pieces. "They weren't trying to hide my father's paper trail," I whispered, the realization pulling the oxygen straight from my lungs. "They were hiding *me*." "Hart," Kael said quietly, his grip on my wrists tightening just enough to anchor me. "Don't build a maze out of shadows. You're trying to calculate a trajectory without a complete set of variables." "My entire life was a set-dress, Kael!" I rasped, my voice cracking as I looked up into his storm-gray eyes. "The third-floor study that was always locked. The boiler room vault was suffocatingly hot, smelling of damp rust, ancient soot, and old paper.Kael knelt on the concrete floor, his massive shoulders hunched beneath the low steam pipes. He dragged a battered, military-grade steel trunk out from behind a stack of rusted heat exchangers—the crate Knox had hidden five years ago."I haven't opened this since the day they locked me in Sector 2," Kael rasped, his voice rough and low.He used the tip of his iron blade to pop the rusted latch. The heavy lid creaked open, releasing the faint scent of stale cedar and old cotton.Inside sat the preserved remnants of Marcus’s short life: a few folded flannel shirts, an engineering sketchbook, a framed university diploma, and a small wooden keepsake box carved with a compass rose.I crouched beside Kael, my hand resting gently on his back as he pulled out the wooden box. His broad fingers trembled slightly as he opened the lid.Inside lay a pair of brass cufflinks, a worn leather wallet, and a

The silence of B-Block at 0300 hours felt heavy enough to collapse the iron catwalks overhead.I slipped back into the cell, my socks damp from the drainage tunnel, my pulse hammering a frantic, erratic rhythm against my ribs. Kael was standing near the steel table, his heavy brow furled, wiping a streak of black grease from his palm. When the iron door clicked shut behind me, his storm-gray eyes snapped to my face, instantly registering the pale, hollow shock frozen on my features."Eli wasn't in the south hub," Kael rasped, stepping toward me, his voice tight with an edge of quiet alarm. "Hart... where were you?""I followed Eli," I said softly, my voice dropping into a razor-sharp, absolute whisper. I closed the distance between us, standing chest-to-chest with him in the dim amber light. "He met an unbadged handler near the Sector 1 steam vents. He handed over a drive with my sealed Chicago file."Kael’s jaw clenched violently, his fists tightening until his knuckles popped. "I'll
