Chapter Eight.

Evelyn's POV.

"Oh my, what happened to your hair?" Olivia gasped as I entered the sitting room. Ethan's eyes darted to me, and I flashed a bright smile.

"You like my new look?" I asked, trying to sound casual. "This is how I want to look now."

Ethan's face darkened, and he grabbed me roughly. "How could you cut your hair without my permission?" he barked.

Olivia intervened, her voice firm. "Ethan, let go of her."

Ethan released me, his eyes apologetic. "I'm sorry," he muttered, before darting a glance at Olivia and rushing upstairs.

Olivia walked up to me, concern etched on her face.

"Are you okay?" she asked, helping me sit down.

I nodded, still staring at her. I felt like strangling her to death. I wanted to ask her how I had hurt her so badly that she couldn't forgive me, that she had to go to such extremes to get back at me.

"Ethan doesn't like it when someone cuts their hair," Olivia said, as if trying to justify Ethan's behavior.

Also there was no way I could keep paying him now that we were partners.I pushed open the front door, removed my coat, and dropped it on the chair. Earlier, when Ethan left for work, I told Olivia I wanted to go for a stroll. She offered to follow me, but I declined, knowing I was actually heading to Alex's office. Now, feeling exhausted, I decided to take a rest.
