Chapter forty Eight.

Alex's POV.

"Time to go," my dad said, his hands pulling me away.

I shook my head, grasping for more time.

"Please, let me stay," I begged, but he just chuckled.

"Someone needs you, son. This isn't your place," he said, his hands slipping from mine.

I felt a desperate tug, my fingers curling into emptiness as he walked away. Everything around me began to fade.

Distant voices murmured, their words a jumbled mess. I strained to make out who was speaking, but it was like trying to catch smoke.

My eyelids felt like lead weights, refusing to open. I forced them open, but everything was blurry. I closed them again, trying to gather my strength.

When I opened them once more, the room slowly came into focus. I slowly took in my surroundings, the cacophony of machines beeping and whirring around me.

The noise was overwhelming, and I felt an urge to shut it off.

Struggling to sit up, I realized my body felt heavy, unresponsive. A hiss escaped my lips as I noticed the oxyg

The gas gauge needle flickered ominously, and the steering wheel felt unsteady in my hands.I tried to turn the wheel to the right, but the car refused to respond. It continued to speed straight ahead, as if controlled by an invisible force. A cold dread twisted in my stomach. This was not just a coincidence. I slammed the wheel

"You did hit your head, but the tests don't show any memory loss. Cases like this are extremely rare, almost unheard of.”I remained silent, gripping the blanket that draped over me. My heart pounds in my chest as he studies me further, hoping he wouldn't expose my secret. His gaze flickered toward my husband. No, Ethan, who stands by the doors. His posture stiff, his expression unreadable, the sight of him sends a cold shiver down my spine. “If you don't mind,” the doctor says.“ I would like to speak to my patient alone for a moment.” Ethan didn’t move at first, his fingers twitch, his jaw clenches, but after a brief hesitation, he nods. His eyes lingered on me for a second, too long before he turned and stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind him. The moment he's gone, I release the breath I

It wasn't physical pain, but the crushing weight of betrayal, threatening to consume me whole.I shouldn't be here, listening to their conversation but my legs couldn't move no matter how hard I tried. I pressed my back against the cold wall.My heart pounded against my ribs as I heard their voices. Their tone was infuriatingly casual, utterly cruel, as if nothing ever happened.Olivia's voice dripped with scorn and amusement. "She's more useless now than ever," she sneered. Ethan's face was a deep, fiery red, a vein bulging at his temple like a warning sign. His expression was a mix of shock and anger. “You liar!” Ethan roared, his hand twisting into a fist. “She’s my wife.”The man beside me remained calm and composed, utterly unfazed by Ethan's anger. He tilted his head slightly, an amused smirk dancing on his lips, his eyes glinting with a hint of mockery. “I'm lying?” he asked. “That's rich coming from a man who's trying to claim something that was never his to begin with.”Ethan lunged forward, his fists clenched, but before he could reach him, two guards in black suits seized Ethan and Olivia, pinning them in place with an unyielding grip.“Let go of me.” Ethan yelled, struggling against the guard. “You have no right to do this.”Olivia shrieked, trying to claw at the guard's hand,

Every few seconds, it wasn't a look of concern, it was something else: like he was studying me. I shifted my gaze, trying to ignore the way my skin prickled under his stare. The leather felt cold against my fingers as I gripped the edge of the seat, my knuckles turning white.Olivia sat beside him, completely unbothered, scrolling through her phone. I forced my breathing to stay even, my hands resting calmly on my lap. If they suspected anything, I was as good as dead. Olivia walked behind us. Ethan led me down the hall, he stopped in front of the guest room door.He pushed the door open. “This is your room.” I wanted to yell at him right now,
