LEAH

“His eldest brother to be precise,” he added.

Drew Mountains. First of the many sons born to Andrew Mountains. The meanest, most ruthless, and strictest. Straight A student throughout highschool, and college. His parents never had to bribe their way throughout his academics, or so we were told. He was born with an iron fist. He never partied, was never found lacking, and was his father's right hand. He took interest in the family's business from such a young age. He was the definition of a perfect son.

It explained why I couldn't recognize him instantly. I had never truly known him. We only met at important dinners, and rather than entertain girls like me, he had entertained men. Moreover, we had a very large age gap. Ten years, I think, if not more. We never had the same friend circle, or any circle for that matter.

“I know you,” I finally let out.

“I had to make an introduction though,” he replied, pouring himself a glass of wine. He didn't seem impressed with that.

LEAHI woke up to the sound of different movements around. Slowly, I wiped my eyes as I tried to look around. Here, it was impossible to tell what time of the day it was.“You're awake, that's good.” Drew's voice pulled my attention,I turned to find him walking in with two cups of coffee in hand. “I was scared you'd sleep into oblivion.” He said, handing one over to me.He was in a black pajamas, so was it still night time? But he had commented on me sleeping for too long…“What's the time?” I asked,“Check your phone.” I cleared my throat, “I-I-don’t have one.”He took a sip of his drink. I had expected him to react, but he didn't seem surprised. “When did you misplace it?”Oh no. He had misunderstood me. “I didn't misplace it. I don't have any. I've not had a phone for a while…”He took another long sip of his drink. “Take your cocoa before it cools down.”I picked up the drink.“Francis is coming over, probably by noon, to check on you. Are you alright with that?”I wasn't. Fr

Wow. That was a plot twist.” He exhaled,Even I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't lived the story.“Well, that's just how life is. The unexpected always happens.”“Yeah. Look, I'm sorry about all these things that have happened to you. Lucas is one hell of a bastard, and for your ex best friend, I have no words. None.”“I guess I've gotten over it. For her. I mean, she did make a way for me to escape that place, especially after the many death threats by Lucas.” I continued,Francis leaned back on the chair. I watched him stare into space for a while.“I need to get you to a better place. Somewhere you can stay for a while.”I shook my head, “I don't want to be out just yet. I d

LEAHFrancis kept looking out the window. I followed his trail, and although I couldn't see the girl anywhere in sight, I knew he was looking somewhere at her. His eyes were on her food truck.I didn't want to interrupt the moment so I sat still. His hands moved to the key, but his eyes were still on her.“You can go talk to her, I'll wait.” I voiced out,He turned to me, “No, it's alright.” He replied, igniting the engine.“Are you sure?” I pressed forward, but he only nodded, and offered a partial smile. I let it be.“How did you find this food truck? It's basically in the middle of nowhere.”Francis chuckled, “what are you saying? This is the heart of town.”“I guess, but I can't understand why you'd step down from your car to buy food from a food truck. Tell me, how hungry were you?”“Can I tell you something?” He asked, stepping gently on the break.“Yes, sure.”“I wasn't hungry at all.”“Oh. Why then did you stop there?”“Her hair.”“Huh?”“She had dyed her hair a burgundy color

LEAHFrancis came down a few minutes later. His outfit had been switched from a pair of suit to a black pair of joggers, and a white shirt. His hair was rumpled, and wet.“You're done with your meal,” he said walking past me.I was about to reply when I felt a belch come up. “I am. Can I get some water?”“Sure,” he replied,He returned less than a minute later with the bottle. He sat on the chair adjacent to mine. I recalled my bare thighs, and pushed my gown down.“Drew wants to have a talk with you,” he started to say.“Oh, okay. When exactly?”“He said he wants it done today, but I don't think that's a great idea. You're just recovering from something tragic. I think you need time to actually recover before you start planning the next move or course of action.”“I don't mind. It's not too soon.”“Are you sure?”“ A hundred percent.”I saw the hesitation in his stiffness, but he didn't argue. “Sure, I'll tell him to set up a time and venue for you to meet.”“You won't be there?”“D

LEAHYou could always trust Francis to pick out the perfect dress, and shoes for any event. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, admiring my waistline. The dress Francis had picked flowed to the ground, but it had a bare back. Just a few stripes were tied to form a bow at the waistline.I applied the last touch of makeup, and sprayed my hair.“Should I leave it down, or take it up?” I asked myself in a low tone,After much consideration, I decided to leave it the way it had already been-down.As I walked down from the stairs, I was met with Francis who was already prepared, and ready to leave.“Are you done?” He asked,“Yeah,” I replied, hurrying towards him.“You know there's no rush, right? If you're not comfortable with this, you can just cancel.” I nodded. I knew quite well, but I'd be damned if I said I hadn't been waking up every morning for the past six months, waiting for when I could destroy that motherfucker. He held my hand, and led me through the doors.Soon enough,

The entire restaurant will hear me.” I threatened,“You think I give any fuck? With the show you just put out there, you'd best believe everyone already thinks you have mental issues. I just need to confirm it, and it's done.”His grip on my hands tightened. I winced even more, as he pulled me forward. The tears started to well up my eyes. I wanted to cry out, but I just couldn't. LEAH “You have a lot of passion, I like it.” Drew commended me.I nodded. He had no idea how long I had been waiting for a moment like this. One where I could teach Lucas that he was just a beginner at being evil.I was my father's daughter after all…“Well, here's my card.” Drew tossed the card at me, “if you ever need to reach out to me privately. Please call my assistant, she'll tell you what to do.”Taking the card from Drew was awkward, but I received it nonetheless.“I'm waiting for you to reach out,” he said, then walked away. The table grew quiet as soon as he left. Francis angrily poked at his meal.I knew he wasn't mad at me…or so I thought, but I couldn't ask why he was so pissed.“Are you alright?” I tried to ask.“Um, yeah. It seemed like a good plan at that time. If I could get someone that would be interested in me, I would be able to forget you. So, the party was hosted by…um…there's this Ger

LEAHThe drive was fucked up. I was lucky to make it safely to the office.I picked up my bag, the file, and walked through the lot.The sound of my phone ringing, pulled my attention.Drew.“Hello,” I said, stomping forward.I had to kill him. There was no other option left.“Where are you?” “Heading to the office. What do you want?”“I want to know what you were doing at that girl's house. Why are you digging up old wounds?”I paused in my tracks, “I dug up old wounds because I had to prove I wasn't a murderer.”“You're not. She isn't dead.”“Yes, but she almost died. And I had to prove I wasn't the reason for that.”I heard him grunt, and then speak, “okay. What did you find out?”The rage in my body pulsated, as I gripped harder onto my bag.“Lucas, and Kate pushed her off the wall. Can you believe that? The woman whom I have been mourning nearly ruined my life.”“How did you find out?”“She remembers. The girl who got pushed off.”“That's good.”“I know,” I began to walk, “and I

LEAHI knew Lucas was a terrible man, but finding this out was a real change to my perspective.I turned to find her staring at me. She raised an inquisitive brow, then turned to her sister who just shrugged.“I thought I pushed you off the balcony,” I revealed.“You-”“I know. You said I wasn't there, I know.” I cut in. I didn't need to hear it again. I touched my thighs, and then the chair, but I didn't know what to do. “You're sure I wasn't there?”“Yes,” she replied in a low tone. She wasn't harsh anymore, just confused.I rubbed my lips on each other, staring into nothing. Was every part of my life a lie? How deep had my husband cut in?“I was drunk that night,” I began to explain, “drunk, and intensively high, so my memory is jagged. I honestly don't remember all that had happened. Based on what I had been told, I saw you trying to kiss Lucas, and in jealousy, pushed you off the balcony.” I let a breath pass through my lips, “all my life, I have been feeling so guilty. LEAHI shook my hand off her grip. “The next time you threaten me, I will show you the clear difference between a woman born in wealth, and a woman who stole her way there. Don't test me.”With that, I pushed her hand off, and walked off.Her eyes followed me as I strolled out of the building. As soon as I got to the driveway, I took a pause, taking in a deep breath.Francis was a pimp. Yes, he was. How dare he go ahead and tell her about the kiss making it look like it was my fault? We both kissed each other. I didn't force myself on him. I had initiated it, but that didn't mean-“Leah!” A sharp voice called my name,I turned to find Xander sprinting towards me. As soon as he approached me, he quickly corrected himself, “sorry, Mrs Irving. I only called you by your first name-”“What can I do for you?” I asked, crossing both arms over my chest.I could still feel my cheeks flushed in anger.“Here,” he handed me a brown file.“What is this?” “The divorce papers.”“I just authorize

I'm serious, I want to adopt a child.”“And you want me to be the co parent,” he completed,“Exactly.”“No.”“Why?” I cocked my head, “I thought we were a team?” He closed his eyes, then I heard a deep groan. “Why do you want a child?”“Because she's important to me.”“Whose child do you want to adopt?”“Yours.” He was silent for a second. He leaned back on his chair, then finally leaned towards me. I was still by the door, with it slightly adjusted.“That's Kate's child,” he corrected,I clenched my jaw, biting back the words.“What do you say? Are you with me on this or not?”“I'm not with you on anything. You want to adopt a child? Go on, I'm not stopping you, but I won't be a part of it.”“This is your child!”“It's Kate's child.”My lips parted, and I was about to preach on how insensitive he was, but I clamped my lips shut. It was Lucas. Why had I expected better?I turned around, and walked out of his office. As soon as

He tucked at his suit, and straightened his shoulders.“We need to be a team. Your uncle is the enemy, not me.”I glared at him, but didn't say a word as I retreated back to my seat.“Do you like your position in this company?”“Why? Do you want to take that away too? Haven't you taken enough from me?”“I'm not taking anything. Just listen to me. I can give you a permanent spot at this table, but you and I know your uncle is the common enemy. One chance, and he'll displace us permanently.”I looked him dead in the eye, “There is no way in hell you're trying to negotiate my father's company with me.”“Look, I'm not negotiating, I'm just-”I saw the desperation in his eyes, a

She was the first to come up.As I scrolled through, I searched for whatever I could use to debunk whatever he was trying to do.Martina had a master's degree in finance and accounting. A first class degree. She was good.I had submerged myself into reading her profile, until Mary's voice pulled me off guard.“I called, and Mr Drew is not home.” Where the hell could he have gone to?“Were you informed on where he could be?” I asked,“Yes, he's at work.”I released a deep sigh, as I pinched my forehead. “Don't worry about it, thank you.” She nodded, and walked out.The intercom buzzed, and I heard Scarlett's voice.“We are all expected to

I heard the doctor's voice as he came in, and I blocked their voices out.Soon enough, I had picked what I wanted to wear, and I changed into it.As I walked out of the room, Drew's eyes met mine one more time. “Get well soon,” I wished,He nodded, and I left the house.I knew I was an hour late for work. With a groan, I picked up my phone, and swiped it off. What was even the time? I looked at the clock. Five am. It was good enough, I could start preparing for work.I got off the bed, and was about heading into the shower when I recalled none of the maids had brought in my outfit for today last night.Drew's perfectly worming team had forgotten my clothes, but they were somehow perfect at gossiping.I sucked in my teeth, and opened the door.To my surprise, a body fell on the floor. My pupils widened as his head hit the carpet.“Drew!” I screamed out, surprised. His eyelids flickered twice, and then a silent groan escaped his lips.In a bid to help him up, I grabbed his arms. He took off the black gloves on his hands.“What do you mean?” I asked, not moving.“Your problem, I solved it.”“What problem?” “The murder accusation.” He replied, as he threw the leather gloves into the trash can.“How?” That was all I could ask. Nothing seemed to make any sense. He started to unbutton his equally black shirt, “Do you really want to know how?” “Yes,” He grunted, as he took the shirt off, and tossed it into the trash can too. He then took off his socks, and shoes. They got the same fate as the rest of his clothings.“Call a guard for me,”“No.”His eyes flickered, “Don't be stubborn, call a guard.”I refused to move.He sighed, picked up his phone, and I heard the buzzing sounds.“Boss,” I could hear his right hand’s voice.“Come to the gard
