Leonel has a sister.

She ushers us into an empty room with a bare mattress and several medical items arranged on shelves lining the walls. Even with all that, she manages to fill the room with the heavenly scent of jasmine and lavender, not hospital antiseptic.

She, as in Arabella, Leonel’s sister.

Leonel places a very pale Helen on the bed, and the blood drains from my face as I watch the mattress soak red far quicker than I thought possible, all from a wound I caused.

Me, I stabbed someone.

I’d always imagined I would have to one day. After all, I didn’t carry my knife around as some sort of accessory, but the feeling of having a blade slide into someone’s skin, to feel it pierce what I assume (and hope isn’t) an organ, was far realer than anything I could picture. I keep seeing her face as I did it, as she crumpled to the floor.

Why had I even done it again? My mind is too scrambled to remember.
