Ava

~~~
Brianna, my stylist, has once again done wonders.
The first time she turned me into art was for Leonel and I’s first photo shoot, when she put me in a sexy, low-cut jumpsuit that caused Leonel to stop mid-speech, and that time he didn’t even like me.
This time she makes sure to make me look like royalty
The dark green dress she fits me in was made specially for me, starting with a high lace neckline that snaps snug around my neck. It stretches into a beautiful, fitted bodice that hugs every curve I have until it flares out in a dramatic, floor-length train, flowing at least 4 inches behind me. The train itself is lined with darker green feathers that flutter against the floor as I walk.
I look at the flower embroidery done in emeralds curving around the dress, making the velvet fabric shimmer in the light.
“At Leonel’s request.” She winked at me, causing me to blush. “He likes you in green.”
Clearly, I think, feeling the best part of this outfit weighs on my fin
    Leonel ~~~ Rafael. Not Ava. Not me. Not the beauty of the wedding. No. Those aren’t the things my guests are whispering about. It’s all my son. “Who’s that boy Madison is carrying?” “Why does he look so much like the Leonel Sinclair?” “Could he be his uncle?” “But why would Leonel allow his ex-wife hold his nephew?” “Don't be stupid! That’s obviously a secret son.” At the word “son”, my knees buckle, and I reach for the table by the window I’m looking out of to steady myself. This cannot be happening. Even in keeping her mouth shut, Madison somehow still made herself and my son the spectacle of the night. “Maybe spying on your guests is hurting more than helping you?” Riley says behind me. I turn around to see her dressed in a flowery pink dress, a single pink rose in her hands, and her usually untamable hair put up in a high, curly bun. “You look nice,” I say absent-mindedly. “And you look like shit.” She replies, “God I can’t believe she’s actually
    Ava ~~~ “This bun is a mess.” Evie mumbles. She pulls the loose strands so tight into the bun that I feel like my head is on fire. That could also be due to the fact that this wedding is meant to start in 20 minutes: the guests are seated, the press is waiting, and I think Leonel is already standing at the end of the altar, expecting me. I could faint, but just as I think my vision is blurring, Bella pulls the corset on my back so tight that I’m forced to straighten. “Bella!” I wheeze. “Do it tighter next time,” Evelyn replies, her voice more stoic than ever. Okay, so I definitely didn’t imagine her trying to yank the hair off my head. “Evie, come on, are you really going to be mad at me?” She loops some hair around my bun, “Mad? Why would I be mad? Just because I think you’re making a big mistake and aren’t thinking of the consequences doesn’t mean I’m mad.” She yanks my hair again. “Uh-huh,” I mutter as I flinch away from her touch. “You do realise the sister of the gro
    Ava~~~ “Madison’s just sitting there.” Riley mumbles, spying out the window, “She’s not talking to reporters but she’s just sitting there.” Leonel doesn’t seem relieved about this like I thought he’d be, “She wouldn’t talk to them. She knows if she says something I’m truly going to walk away forever. She doesn’t want that to happen. She’s trying to start some war but I just don’t know what…” Leonel shakes his head and turns to me, his eyes softening, “Are you okay?” Well, it’s not every wedding you meet your fiancé’s son for the first time, so I think the blatant answer is no. It’s also not every wedding you have to be asked “are you okay” every 4 seconds. But I remember how soft Rafael was to my touch. He seems angelic. I know Madison came here with evil intentions, but actually seeing the boy… calmed me. He’s not nasty. He’s not spoiled. And he still has his innocence. He’s not Madison. So, for that reason, I tilt my chin forward and answer, “I’m okay… he’s perfec
    Leonel ~~~ Enough is enough. It’s one thing for Madison to threaten not to help my business or to come to my house to fight Ava, or even to cheat on me. But this? This is where I have to draw the line. I’m flying down the stairs before I can stop myself, and I feel Ava hot on my trail. “Leonel!” She sounds alarmed. “What are you going to do?” “What I should have done a long time ago.” Before I can move any further, Ava whizzes in front of me and places a hand to my chest. “And what exactly should you have done a long time ago? You just learnt about the boy today; you can’t cause a scene now.” Her eyes are wide as she talks to me, almost like she’s trying to peer into my soul. But if she could see the dark thoughts brewing there, she would never talk to me again. “I’m not going to cause a scene,” I assure her, taking the hand she still has on my chest and intertwining our fingers. “I just want to put a stop to Madison’s nonsense.” Ava glances at our fingers, her g
    Leonel~~~If I was going to stop the wedding planners from putting up décor, I’m damn too late now. My entire front yard has been transformed into what I hoped would be Ava’s fairytale wedding. A million fairy lights stream from a canopy above, matching the ones wrapped around columns in front of the house. Beautiful, intricate silver tables (which I’m sure make Riley extremely happy) glow in the soft yellow light, and 1,000 chairs have been placed for the arrival of my guests. Already, at least 600 have been filled. “Well, fuck,” I mutter, watching from the window as a reporting van pulls up. Luckily, no one is allowed in the house itself. A thick line of security guards, headed by Alaric and Kenzo, makes sure of this. So I’m safe simply staring out the window. Scanning the crowd, I desperately try to make out Oliver, but his head of brown curls is nowhere in sight. I want to believe he’s okay, but it’s 6 p.m. now, with dusk setting, and he left ages ago.I shake off m
