A woman showed up at my cabin door, claiming to be a Beta's mate. She said she wanted to rent my herb field for three hundred dollars a month, to grow medicine for her injured mate. Three hundred? Seriously? That land is the only one in the entire pack—blessed ground that drinks in the Moon Goddess's power. Herbs grown there could pull a dying wolf back from the dead. I turned her down. But she wouldn't let it go. So Sun, my dog, barked and chased her off. Figured that'd be the end of it. Wrong. The next day she came back with two Gammas, busting right through my door. They screamed at me, called me a worthless human who had no business touching pack land. Then they tied me up and made me watch as they burned my herb books, beat Sun, and tore out every single plant I'd grown. What they didn't know? I'm human, yeah. But I'm the adopted human daughter of the Bloodmoon Alpha and Luna. That herb field? Their gift to me on my eighteenth birthday. And those herbs they burned? The only cure for her mate's dying breath.

Chapter 1

A woman showed up at my cabin door and said, "hey! Rent me your herb field. My mate's hurt—he needs that land to grow his herbs."

"I'm not asking for free. Three hundred a month. That's basically free money for you, so just take it and be grateful."

I stared at her standing outside my door, and honestly? I almost laughed in her face.

Her name was Josephine Anderson. Beta Owen Anderson's mate.

Ever since her mate got hurt, she's been hoarding all the land that can grow herbs.

Looks like she's got her eyes on me this time.

She saw me standing there and snapped louder.

"Did you hear me or not?"

"My mate got hurt protecting our pack—he needs a ton of good herbs to heal. And you're wasting that prime field on flowers? Useless ones at that? What a waste. Give it to me for herbs, what's the big deal?"

"Three hundred a month is plenty. Besides, you're a human. What right do you have to pack land anyway?"

The way she talked—like she was doing me a favor, dripping with disgust for humans—made my skin crawl.

And for the record? Those "useless flowers" were planted by the Alpha himself. Specifically to treat his Beta. Josephine's mate.

She thought they were junk?

Sure, that herb field amplified anything planted in it. But keeping it running wasn't cheap—I had to dump a fortune into moon-charged crystals every single day to feed the soil, plus pay a witch to ward the field so the Moon Goddess's power wouldn't bleed out.

And she thought three hundred dollars would cover a month?

That wouldn't even buy me one day's worth of crystals.

I wasn't about to waste my breath explaining. So I shut her down.

"Sorry, but this land is mine. I'm using it to grow the flowers that'll save your mate. Not renting. And three hundred? That wouldn't even cover my crystals for a day."

I figured that was clear enough. She'd back off.

But she didn't buy it at all. She just started yelling right outside my cabin.

"You're human. What do you even know about herbs? You're living in a pack house, on our pack land—did we ever charge you for that? My mate got hurt protecting this pack, and you can't even spare a patch of dirt?"

"You're just some lowborn human who showed up out of nowhere. For all we know, you've been using your filthy tricks to seduce some useless Omega!"

"Since you're here, you'd better follow our pack's rules!"

"My mate's a Beta. That little boyfriend of yours is probably an Omega! Watch it—I'll have my mate toss both of you out of this pack."

That did it. The heat shot straight up my spine.

Then some pack guard strolled over and piled on.

"Josephine's got a point! What right does a human have to pack herb land anyway?"

"Josephine's being generous—three hundred a month? You should be offering it up for free. She's a Beta's mate, you know."

I went cold. Bone cold.

I'm the one with the gift for growing herbs. Ever since I took over this patch of land, I've been pumping out over a ton of medicinal plants for this pack every single year. Half the wolves in this pack owe their lives to my herbs, including that guard standing right there, kissing her ass.

But here's the thing—the Alpha kept the herb field off-limits to keep me safe. I kept to myself, barely interacted with anyone in the pack. So pretty much no one here actually knows who I am.

What I didn't expect was that the moment the Alpha left the pack, my herb field became a target.

I wasn't going to entertain this circus. I called for my dog.

"Sun. Get 'em out."

Sun knew exactly what I meant. He trotted to the door and let out a warning bark—but never crossed the threshold.

They flinched and stormed off.

But Josephine turned back and threw one last jab.

"You'll pay for this. I swear it."

I walked away. Didn't even let it land.

In this pack? No one makes me pay for anything.
