Caught In The Act 

Neither of them heard the footsteps.

They were too lost in each other—in the feel and heat of their bodies pressed together and the deeply intimate position they both hated for loving. It was a very suggestive position.

And then…

“What the hell is this!" 

The voice was familiar. Sharp and enraged.

Sofia's blood ran cold and colour drained from her face.

She immediately broke free from Kael's grip and whipped her head around and found her brother standing at the edge of the ice rink. His jaw was clenched. Too hard, enough to crack, his fists clenched tight at his sides. So tight tiny droplets of blood flowed from his palms to the ice surface.

He looked like he was about to commit murder.

" Sean..” Sofia started.

“Don't." He cut her off and stepped on the ice, his hockey skates making angry scrapping sounds against the surface of the ice.

“Don’t you dare tell me this isn't what it looks like. I just walked in on my twin sister cozying up to the bastard who's made my life a living hell, on the same rink he deliberately injured me on last season.

Kael straightened, but didn't step away from Sofia. If anything, he moved closer, his hand settling on the small of her back in a gesture that was unmistakably possessive and a smirk that dared Sean to do his worse.

“Sean," Kael said, his voice dripping with mockery. “There’s nothing you can do. You can't even clean up your own mess." 

“What did you say?” Sean stepped closer, his eyes blazing.

“Isn’t she the sacrificial lamb you can't even protect?" Kael mocked, taking a few steps forward and closing the gap between him and Sean.

“Don't talk to him like that!" Sofia snapped.

“I’ll talk to him however I like, bitch. He's a coward and a pussy who needs his twin sister for protection. Tell me Sofia, can he sacrifice for you too?”

Sofia unconsciously glanced at her twin. Ashamed of the answer she had but didn't say out loud.

“See?" You can't even defend him because you know he's a selfish, self-centered little prick.

“ You bastard…" Sean lounged forward with a punch aimed at Kael.

But the next second, Kael effortlessly blocked his punch and grabbed him by the neck..

“Kael!" 

Sofia yelled and rushed towards the two men, trying to free her twin from Kael's death grip.

“She’s mine Sean, and you can't do shit about that." Kael sneered in his face before releasing him, letting him land roughly on the ice.

“You. Meet me at the Cafe 4pm tommorow,” he ordered Sofia and left without any more words.

Sofia assisted her brother who was now breathing like a fish out of water, to the nearby bench, teary eyed.

She sat in silence still shaken from what Kael did to her twin.

“I'm sorry Sean," she apologized head bowed. I didn't mean for any of this to happen.

“Be specific Sofia," he scoffed. You didn't want me to walk in on you two almost making out did you?" 

“That’s not…”

“You know what Sofia? Just shut the fuck up!" 

Sofia jerked at the sound of Sean's voice which echoed through the empty arena. She began tearing up again, she wasn't used to being yelled at by her twin brother.

“You were supposed to be helping me, not acting so cheap! Tell me how long have you wanted to get into his bed?" 

“Stop it Sean." 

“Does the truth hurt so much?” You're willing to sacrifice my future for some guy who doesn't even value you.”

“You think I want this!" Sofia yelled back making Sean pause and stare, surprised at how hurt and angry she sounded. “Tell me Sean,” she rose from the bench and glared at him. “How many times have ever been there for me?

“Tell me!" She yelled in his face when he wasn't answering. “I clean up your fucking mess, whenever you make a mistake, I'm always there to take the blame and fix things for you. But what have you ever done for me? Name one fucking thing Sean!" 

“I..I.." Sean stuttered, looking like a lost puppy. 

“See?" Sofia let out a humorless laugh.

“Fine. Sofia. Fine. I know I haven't really been there for you like you've been for me, but I apologize and I promise to change that. But you can't do this to me. You can't be with Kael. He's my arch enemy." 

“You think I want to be with him,” she snapped. “Do you think I want to be playing girlfriend to some cold hearted bastard when I should be training for the viper girls tryouts?”

“Playing girlfriend? Viper girls tryouts? What do you mean? Those tryouts are for figure skaters, and you're not even interested in sports to begin with, hell you've never even skated before.." 

Sofia laughed bitterly. 

“For someone who's supposed to be my twin. You know little to nothing about me.” She looked at her brother, feeling completely hurt and disappointed. Maybe it was time she started putting herself before her so-called family.

“Sofia…" 

Kael caught me Sean.” She dropped the bomb and he froze. “On my first day impersonating you. I had completed your drills and decided to do mine since no one was insight when he emerged from the shadows. 

“What..h.. you…," he stuttered, looking horrified.

“That’s not all. He also knows why you asked me to do it," she continued ignoring her pale looking brother. “And threatened to reveal everything if I don't be his fake girlfriend and clean up his bad boy image. I couldn't let him ruin my future before it even began, and your career too." 

Sean stared at her, shame replacing anger.

“I didn't know," he said. “I didn't…” He ran his h

and through his hair. “God, Sofia. I'm so sorry." 

“Don’t," she said quietly, turning to leave.
