Chapter 3

Autor: Binky Babe
Stepping out of the Bennett Corporation building, the cold wind whipped straight down my collar.

My phone buzzed in my pocket.

"Mr. Morgan, the external cardiac monitor you ordered has arrived," the courier said over the line.

I froze for a second.

Bianca had pulled every string she had to secure that medical device before the soul swap happened. It was still in its trial phase, meant specifically for my grandmother, whose heart condition had been deteriorating.

I rushed over to the nursing home and handed the equipment over to her attending doctor.

Seeing me walk in alone, Grandma glanced toward the doorway twice.

"Where's Bianca?" she asked, "I haven't seen her in two weeks. Did you two get into a fight?"

"No, Grandma," I said, tucking her blanket in around the edges, "She's just been swamped with work lately. She'll come visit you in a few days."

Grandma sighed softly. "At my age, who knows how many 'few days' I have left?"

She began rambling about Bianca again, her voice full of affection.

"Bianca gets stomach cramps whenever she catches a chill. You make sure to keep her stomach warm. Don't look down on that warm compress trick I taught you just because it sounds old-fashioned. Three years ago, if she hadn't brought in those top specialists for me, I wouldn't even be here today."

I lowered my head with a soft chuckle, but my eyes stung with heat.

Even when she wasn't around, her presence was stamped onto every corner of my life.

The equipment was hers.

The Bianca in Grandma's fond stories was hers, too.

All I could do was keep waiting.

Fifteen days left.

That evening, I returned to the villa and pressed my thumb against the door lock.

"Fingerprint not recognized," a cold, mechanical voice chimed through the speaker.

The text feed flashed across my field of vision instantly.

[She deleted his fingerprint! Now he knows who the real master of the house is!]

[Connor already moved in! How does this guy even have the face to come back here?]

[When the teen version said she was giving the main guy a home, she meant it for real!]

I stood motionless at the front door.

Through the intercom camera, the butler, Sebastian Sinclair's face was scrunched up in discomfort.

"Sir... Ma'am gave strict orders. From now on, whenever you return... You have to ask for her permission first."

Connor's voice drifted out from inside. "Mr. Sinclair, let Elliot in. It's cold outside."

The front door clicked open.

As I stepped through the doorway, a thought suddenly struck me.

What if one day, twenty-eight-year-old Bianca stopped loving me, too?

It turned out that my home, my lock, and everything I had taken for granted could lock me out completely with just a single word from someone else.

The realization slowed my steps.

Connor came forward to greet me. "Elliot, please don't hold it against Bianca. She was just worried I wouldn't feel comfortable living here."

I ignored him entirely.

Bianca was curled up on the couch playing video games, not even bothering to look up. "I already contacted a lawyer. We're notarizing everything tomorrow to transfer all assets under my name to Connor."

She paused briefly. "Including this house."

This time, I stopped dead in my tracks.

I could fight to protect our joint marital assets. However, her property was hers to dispose of, and she had every legal right to sign it away right now.

By the time the twenty-eight-year-old Bianca returned, most of those assets would be permanently beyond recovery.

Of course I wanted to stop her. Yet I couldn't open my mouth.

The current Bianca was convinced I was after her money. If I urged her not to do it, she would only see it as my greedy reluctance to let go, giving away even more just to prove her point.

So, I could only watch, utterly powerless to act.

I picked up my bag to head upstairs.

Mr. Sinclair blocked the base of the staircase, looking pained. "Sir... Your belongings... Ma'am had them moved to the guest room."

In the most remote guest room in the house, my clothes and cufflinks were tossed haphazardly across the bed, while several of my leather bags lay slumped on the floor.

I stood at the doorway for a long time before slowly stepping inside.

That was when my mother-in-law, Vivian Bennett, called.

"Elliott, dear, my birthday party is coming soon," she said warmly over the phone, "Come over early and help me host the guests."

"Will do, Vivian," I replied.

Hanging up, I bent down and picked up a pair of trousers off the floor.

Suddenly, I didn't want to count down the remaining days anymore.

I pulled up my messaging app and tapped on my private attorney's chat window.

[Help me compile a complete inventory of all legally divisible marital assets.]

…

Over the next few days, credit card invoices poured in one after another.

Fine jewelry, designer handbags, sports cars…

Bianca acted as if she were desperately making up for every gift her eighteen-year-old self had never gotten to give Connor, showering him with lavish presents.

I didn't bother interfering.

In the study, my old investment banking notes from six years ago were gathering dust. I opened them again and began messaging old colleagues, systematically reclaiming my own personal wealth, career, and network.

"I used to think that loving someone meant giving them the absolute best of everything," Bianca said."Handling all their problems, shielding them from trouble, paving their path smoothly for them."It took me until now to realize that some things can't be done for someone else."I remained silent."Elliot.""Yeah?""In the future, if you want my help, just tell me. If you don't say anything, I won't make decisions for you anymore."I stared out the window at the streetlights sweeping past us into the distance."Hold yourself to what you said today.""I will."…Six months later, Vivian asked me out for dinner.Halfway through the meal, she slid a set of keys across the table toward me."Bianca wanted me to give these to you."I glanced down at them. "What are they?""For the villa.""Why didn't she give them to me herself?"Vivian scoffed softly. "She said if she gave them to you, you wouldn't take them."I couldn't help but laugh. She was right.Vivian continued,

In the past, as long as I opened my mouth, Bianca would have had all the relevant files delivered to my hands within half an hour, even making a neat list of exactly who I needed to contact.I picked up my phone, then set it back down. The next day, I reached out to three former colleagues myself and took them out for dinner. The problem was solved all the same. Not as fast as it would have been with Bianca's help. However, it wasn't nearly as hard as I had imagined either. After that, the thought of reaching out to Bianca crossed my mind less and less.It wasn't that I didn't need her.It was just that I finally remembered I used to solve my own problems, too. When the deal for the Westside Project was officially closed, Gavin gave me a call."Sir, they ended up giving us a two percent concession at the end," he said.I let out a soft laugh. "Don't call me Sir anymore.""Habit of a lifetime." Gavin chuckled. "Miss Bennett said that since you did the initial risk assessment f

"I used to think that was great," I continued, "You handled everything for me, so all I had to do was focus on living my life."I raised my head to look at Bianca."But the day that lock wouldn't open, I realized something terrifying. The second you're not around, I don't even know where I stand."Bianca's throat worked as she swallowed hard. "It was my...""It wasn't your fault," I cut in."It's not wrong that you treated me well. I was the one who handed over too much of myself."I zipped my suitcase shut."So now, I want to take it back."Bianca searched my face for a long time."Does that include our marriage?"My hands froze on the handle. That was probably the first time since she returned that she had asked me something so direct.I didn't answer right away."That agreement doesn't count," she said softly, "If you genuinely want a divorce, we can sit down and negotiate properly."We'll divide the joint property according to the law, and you won't lose out on a sing

"There are also multiple clauses in this agreement that attempt to divide joint marital property," the lawyer said, "We'll be taking care of those shortly."Bianca nodded. "Recover everything that needs to be recovered."After a beat, she added, "And don't you dare touch anything under Elliot's name or his premarital assets."The lawyer blinked, caught off guard. "Of course."Bianca's expression remained dark. "I was reminding myself."Gavin lowered his head, trying hard to hide a smile.I almost laughed out loud, but figuring it wasn't the right time, I quickly turned my head away.Bianca saw me. Her tense expression finally softened just a bit.The last item left to handle was the pink diamond.Connor refused to give it back. He claimed Bianca had personally given it to him.Eighteen-year-old Bianca had indeed done that. After listening to his defense, Bianca simply asked the lawyer, "Which account was used to buy it?""The family office account.""Then process it accord

Yet the very next day, Bianca invited me out again."The third time, I was the one who wanted to see him," Bianca continued, "The fourth time too. And every single time after that."She locked eyes with Connor."Don't flatter yourself into thinking someone else's six years revolved around your face."The glowing livestream commentary floating in front of me froze, dead in its tracks.[Wait... So who were we even rooting for this whole time?][Hold on, who was actually the rebound here?]I didn't feel any surge of victory. I just felt bone-weary."Bianca."Her head snapped toward me instantly."Stop causing a scene in the hospital."She paused, taking a breath. "Okay."Connor opened his mouth to say something, but eighteen-year-old Bianca yanked her arm out of his grasp before he could get a word out."I told you yesterday, you don't get to use people's lives to blackmail him," she said. For the first time, that wild, reckless spark in the teenage girl's eyes was completel

Another message sat right below it.[Miss Bennett, since the family changed their treatment plan, we’ll cancel this trip for now. Let us know if you need anything else.]The notification showed it had already been read.Eighteen-year-old Bianca stared down at the screen."I never opened that," Connor stammered. His face went completely pale.Bianca handed the phone back to her."He was your choice," she said, her voice eerily calm, "Look at it yourself."Eighteen-year-old Bianca stared at Connor as if seeing a total stranger for the first time in her life."Why?"Tears instantly spilled down Connor's cheeks. "What was I supposed to do? You're already married, and I had nothing. Elliot got the spot as your family's son-in-law, your house, your company, and your mom even gave him the heirloom watch."I waited for you for so many years. When you finally chose me again, I just wanted to take back what was supposed to be mine."Eighteen-year-old Bianca froze.Connor reached out,
