Chapter 3

Author: Seven Sevens
"Did you hear? The Alpha ordered an afternoon snack for everyone!"

"You don't get it. It's just because Ms. Renee lost weight from training. The Alpha feels bad for her, so he used the excuse of rewarding everyone to give her extra food. We're just benefiting from this!"

"Huh? But doesn't the Alpha already have a Luna…"

"Keep your voice down. The Luna is still here!"

I stayed silent as I listened to the young warriors gossip.

Even though Yves and I were about to break our bond, I was still the Luna until the final paperwork was issued.

I looked at the premium steaks still streaked with blood that were prepared for the warriors. They were right.

It must have been Yves feeling sorry for Renee training so hard, so he used the excuse of rewarding everyone to give her extra food.

It wasn't that I didn't want to have a bite of his "thoughtful gesture". Unfortunately, my hemophobia made my stomach churn violently the moment I saw the bright red colors.

Back when Yves was pursuing me, he had been just as passionate. As he was afraid I would forget to eat while busying myself with the pack's affairs, he would use reporting things as an excuse to keep me and have meals with me.

When I got hurt but still forced myself to work, he would secretly mix the bitter healing herb powder into the sweet moonflower nectar. He would deliberately trick me into drinking it, and then always laugh endearingly at the way I frowned from the bitterness.

The extremely disciplined pack headquarters had once been vibrant and alive because of the unconcealed love between us.

Sadly, that affection ultimately no longer belonged to me.

I didn't have time to overthink things, as there was still plenty of work at hand. To prepare for the upcoming full moon celebration, I had already been sorting through files for several nights in a row, and today was no exception.

As the night gradually deepened, it wasn't until Yves walked over to me that I lifted my head from the documents.

"Tiffany, are you still busy?" he asked.

I didn't know why he had suddenly come to see me.

"Alpha, do you have any instructions for me?" I asked politely.

He seemed a little uncomfortable with my distant attitude, but he still said, "Hand over the planning of the full moon celebration to Renee."

Although my heart had long been numbed by pain, I still felt a tightness in my chest appear in that moment, and an endless feeling of suffocation spread through me.

Yves went on incessantly, "Recently, there have been some rumors in the pack about Renee that are unfavorable to her. If she successfully hosts this full moon celebration, it would prove her ability and shut them up."

The full moon celebration was one of the pack's most important annual rituals. It was both a time to pray to the Moon Goddess and a grand event to showcase the pack's strength to the outside world.

The planning of the celebration was usually handled by the Luna, and it also served as a stage for her to demonstrate her capability.

Yves was well aware of how much effort I had put into planning the full moon celebration to earn the Elders' recognition.

And now, with just one offhand sentence, he'd demanded that I give it up.

Every word he spoke was in defense of Renee, worried she would face criticism, but he forgot that I would also feel hurt.

I smiled bitterly, finding this whole thing utterly ironic.

"Fine. She can have it. Tell her to come tomorrow and take it over from me," I said curtly.

I had already done everything I could for this pack.

Yves was surprised at how readily I agreed, and a faint sense of unease rose in his heart.

He pulled out a jewelry box from his pocket and handed it to me. "Alright, I know you're upset, so I bought you a moonstone bracelet as compensation. Do you like it?"

It was indeed in a style I liked. But he hadn't given it to me when I wanted it most, and now, the bracelet had lost all meaning.

I nodded and dutifully reached out to take it.

Yves took that as a sign that I had been convinced, and his tone noticeably softened as he draped his coat over my shoulders.

"Stop sulking. Last time was my fault. In a few days, we'll go to the Elders' Council to withdraw the application. Haven't you always wanted to visit the Moonlight Waterfall in the southern lands? After the celebration, I'll take you there."

I still said nothing. Yves took my silence as my consent, and he excitedly began planning for the future.

On the way back, I scrolled through the pack's social media page and saw Renee's new post.

It showed a necklace made from the same material and in the same style of packaging. The difference was that the moonstone on her necklace was bigger, clearer, and more intricately carved than mine.

The caption read: "Thank you for the gift, Alpha. This is too precious. I didn't want to accept it at first, but Alpha said I was excellent and deserved the best, so he insisted I take it. I suppose it's only polite to obey."

That was when I realized that the bracelet Yves gave me was only the complimentary gift that came with the necklace.

I suddenly laughed, so much so that tears blurred my vision.

It turned out that what I had dreamed of for so long was nothing but leftover charity. All the tenderness and affection he had shown me were just scraps left behind by Renee.

It was just like my place in his heart—a free gift that was something worthless and never the first choice.

I instantly sobered up as the last traces of alcohol left my system."We have nothing to say to each other," I said coldly.I pulled Felix to leave, but Yves refused to give up and rushed up to block me."I've already resolved things with Renee, Tiffany. Please give me one last chance," he pleaded. "During this time, when you weren't by my side, my heart felt hollow. Only then did I realize how important you are to me, Tiffany."He kept repeating this over and over again.I cut off his rambling. "Yves, all I feel for you now is disgust. Please don't ever appear before me again."Yves froze for a moment and then looked at Felix. A realization seemed to dawn on him."Do you think he's truly sincere with you?" Yves shouted behind me. "You're a she-wolf who had her bond broken. How could he possibly not care at all?"I froze on the spot when I heard his words. How ridiculous. The one who personally pushed me into the abyss was now standing before me, using the scars he created him

Renee grabbed Yves' hand again as she repeatedly brought up the things he had done for her, as if reminding him that his favoritism toward her was real.Yves impatiently shook off Renee's grip. "Stop it. I have serious matters to discuss with Tiffany."Then, he turned back to me. His tone softened with what he believed was tolerance and helplessness."Tiffany, I know you're still upset about Renee. She and I truly only had a working relationship. I treated her well only because she worked hard and was a promising newcomer. Don't make it more complicated than it is."After all these years of being together, are we really going to end our relationship over a small misunderstanding? Come back with me and stop being stubborn."I never thought Yves could be this shameless. Even now, he brushed off all his favoritism and overstepping as just me "overreacting" and "being stubborn".Renee froze where she stood. Just as Yves was about to walk toward me, her face suddenly turned pale, her

Then, I heard Yves ask, "Tiffany, why did you block me?"Why? The fact that he could ask this question was already the answer.Even now, he was still hung up on the result of being "blocked", yet he had never reflected on the cause that led to it."Yves, I told you, our mate bond was already broken, and I've already left your pack. What do you mean by still coming to look for me?" I retorted. When he heard the words "broken our mate bond", Yves' throat bobbed slightly. It was as if he were struggling to suppress his emotions."It was my fault that we broke our bond," he explained urgently. "I misunderstood you, and in a moment of impulse, I signed that paper. I already investigated what happened on our anniversary. Back then, I wrongly blamed you. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been so reckless to assume it was you. "Now that I know I was wrong, can you give me another chance?"I looked at him with a sarcastic expression. He didn't know that the problem between us had never been

"Yves, when you brought Renee to question me at the restaurant that day, I already made myself very clear. I said I didn't do it. As for whether that anonymous post was from me or not, you just need to look into it, and it'll be perfectly clear who did it. There's nothing left between us that needs to be explained."And also, please pass on a message to Ms. Renee—if she has time to play these petty tricks behind my back, she should spend it on focusing more on her work for the pack," I said bluntly.Without waiting for his response, I ended the call. Then, I blocked and deleted Yves' number. My fingertip hovered over the screen for a moment, and then I pulled up the chat history from before we had become mates. What showed on the screen were the fragments of our years together—his clumsy confession, our promise on the anniversary of our bond, those gentle late-night exchanges…Each one had once been a treasure I thought I could cherish for a lifetime. But now, these sweet memorie

As I awoke from the endless darkness of my consciousness, I smelled a familiar scent of grass and wood.I slowly opened my eyes. Instead of the ceiling at Yves' place, what came into view was a wooden dome carved with laurel patterns. The bed beneath me was soft, and sunlight streamed in through the windows, dyeing the whole room gold.Hadn't I fainted on the way to the airport? Where was I?"Tiffany, you're awake." A weathered and loving voice sounded in my ear.I struggled to turn my head, and I saw the wrinkled and exceptionally kind face of my grandmother, Ruby Hildegard.Beside her stood Uncle Harrison, who looked at me with concern."Grandma… Uncle Harrison…" My voice came out hoarse and dry."My dear…" Grandma's wrinkled hands gripped me tightly, and tears welled up in her eyes. "You've suffered so much out there. It's great that you're back. At the Silvermoon pack, no one will ever bully you again."Uncle Harrison stood beside her, explaining, "After your call was cut

Tomorrow would be the last day of the mate bond breakage process. After that, Yves and I would have nothing to do with each other.I had been watering the moonflowers I'd planted on the balcony when the ring on my finger—the one that symbolized my status as Luna—suddenly slipped off and fell through the gap of the balcony. It was a ring Yves had crafted by hand for me, and I loved the design, so I had always worn it.I instinctively bent down to reach for it."What are you doing!" An arm suddenly yanked me back. "Do you know how dangerous that was?"Yves' eyes were filled with genuine concern and urgency, as if he still cared about me."The ring fell," I said softly.Yves let out a sigh of relief. "It's just a ring. I'll buy you another one. There's no need to do this."Just a ring? He had already forgotten it was the mate ring he'd made for me with his own hands.I looked at his finger, which was empty. So, he had already taken his ring off long ago."Tomorrow is the anniver
