Chapter 12

Lisa lived not far from our campus, in an older apartment complex. She'd rented a storefront on the first floor. The windows were plastered with ads for "massage" and "wellness". She'd even installed a pink neon light that added a suggestive air to the setup.

Since I didn't know whether Harvey had already arrived, I didn't barge in. Instead, I circled the unit and crouched under a window, peeking through the glass.

The massage room was set up right in the living room. A single narrow massage bed sat in the middle. I saw a middle-aged man lying on it while a woman in a skimpy skirt and black stockings kneaded his shoulders.

"My dad died young, and my mom's seriously ill. I've still got a younger brother in school…" the woman shared as she worked, huffing and puffing through her sob story. "Please stop touching me there, sir. Your hand's practically rubbing my skin off… Why don't you buy a massage package?"

There was no mistaking it now. She was Lisa, the woman Fred talked about.
