I could hear the sound of laughter coming from the throne room. Blake rolled his eyes as he walked ahead of me and entered into the throne room, where my mother, Luna Queen Vienna and Father, Alpha Rowland, were having what seemed like a private romantic moment together. Mother discussed her meeting with the wives of the Pack’s elders as she gently massaged Father’s shoulders to his liking, and only paused when she saw Blake and me walk into the throne room. “Greetings, father, Luna,” Blake said, with a light bow. “Greetings, Father, mother,” I said, bowing fully. “Greetings, princes of the Silver Crest Pack,” Father stated, motioning for us to have our seats. “Blake, I must say it is a surprise to see that you showed up on time today. That’s really impressive. At least, there’s hope for you, unlike that Liam. We’ll be lucky if he even honours your father’s call,” mother remarked. “Keep my name out of your mouth, will you? Oh, never mind! I forgot for a second that you always have to make me look bad in a bid to make your unfit son seem worthy enough to be crowned the next Alpha of our Pack,” Liam retorted, as he strolled into the throne room leisurely. “That’s no way to speak to your stepmother, Liam!” Father barked furiously. A smirk played around Liam’s lips as he eyed mother all over. “I don’t think it counts as disrespect if I don’t recognise her as my stepmother or even the Luna of this great kingdom. To me, she has always been and will always be my mother’s maidservant,” Liam said. I clenched my fists tightly, trying my best to suppress my anger. “That’s enough, Liam,” I said in a more gentle tone than I had intended. “Or what?” Liam snapped, glaring at me. “We both know there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a maidservant’s blood running through your veins. You shouldn’t even get to speak to me, loser,” he said, and with that, he offered a simple bow to Father and took his seat. It was true that Blake, Liam and I were brothers and had been born on the same day, but we had different mothers and the story behind it all created a perceived enmity and division between us. At this point, mother had had enough and decided to gracefully exit the throne room, but not without having the last word. Stopping right in front of Liam, she scoffed, looking him directly in the eye. “You called my son a loser when you’re the biggest loser. You’re condescending, arrogant and overbearing. It is true that I was once a maidservant, but doesn’t it irk you to know that if the people had a chance to vote, they’ll choose a maidservant’s son over you to lead them? Little wonder your mother died the moment you were born. She couldn’t stand seeing the disappointment you’d turn out to be,” mother said, then walked out of the throne room, satisfaction written all over her face. Liam stood up as though to go after her, but Father stopped him right in his tracks. “If you still have any interest in becoming the next Alpha of the Pack, you would sit down right this minute and quit disrespecting my wife!” Father thundered. “You heard what she said!” Liam fired back at Father. “Well, you started it first, so sit down and stop making the rest of us remain here longer than we want to,” Blake told him. “How do you expect me to not voice out my frustration when the mere presence of her provokes me?” Liam retorted. “Just learn to ignore her like I have,” Blake responded. “Easy for you to say. Your mother isn’t dead. She was just chased out for being an adulteress,” Liam said. Blake snapped, grabbing Liam by his collar. “Repeat what you just said,” he dared Liam. Father shook his head, his face covered in disappointment. “Why do you three always have to constantly prove to me that you’re not ready for the throne?” He sighed. Blake slowly let go of Liam and returned to his seat, while Liam adjusted his collar with a scoff. Father cleared his throat. “The reason I called you here today is because of the mission that would determine who becomes the next Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack,” he said. Liam leaned back confidently, a smirk playing around his lips. “Then there’s nothing to discuss. I’m the first son of the legitimate Luna. The throne is mine by right.” “The throne is not won by entitlement, Liam,” Father brushed him off then continued. “Many years ago, before his death, the late priest made a prophecy concerning the three of you. He said that on the celestial day of your twentieth year, your mate would appear before you at Knight’s Tale forest.” My heart skipped slightly at his words as Ciara’s face instantly appeared in my mind. “Does that mean…” I started. “Yes. The maiden you encountered yesterday wasn’t a coincidence,” Father cut in. “I’m sure you all must have felt a connection to her. That’s because she is your mate,” he explained. “What? That doesn’t make any sense at all. How can we be mated to the same person?” Blake asked. Liam rolled his eyes. “The question you should be asking is what that wench being our mate has got to do with any of us becoming Alpha,” he stated, spitting distaste. “Oh, she’s got everything to do with you becoming Alpha… because whoever is able to win her heart is the one that’ll take my place once I’m gone,” Father dropped the bombshell. “But father—“ Blake interjected. “I am finished. You may take your leave now,” Father stated. “But this makes absolutely no sense!” Liam fired. “Guards!” Father called. Almost immediately, two guards rushed into the throne room and bowed. “Escort the princes out. I’ve said all I needed to say,” Father ordered firmly. “Don’t you dare put your filthy hands on me,” Liam warned, then coldly regarded Father with a mock salute and stormed out. “I’ll do as My Lord pleases,” Blake said with a light bow then walked out after Liam. I bowed gently and proceeded to leave when Father suddenly called out to me. “Don’t you have anything to say?” He asked, his expression softened. I thought about it for a moment and then shook my head. “No, Father. I trust your decision, and I hope the best man wins Ciara’s heart,” I said, then bowed once more and left the throne room. I could have said this game was rigged against me. I could have also said I didn’t know the first thing about wooing a woman. But then again, I had never wanted anything in life the way I wanted Ciara.-AldenTo some, I was a hero for exposing the Omega everyone had presumed to be dead, while to a few others, I was evil for what I had done. They expected me to have been more loyal and considerate towards Ciara instead of just exposing her without warning. However, I couldn’t care less about what anyone thought of me. I had done what needed to be done and I truly believed my own opinion was what mattered the most.“Are you happy now?” I heard my half-brother, Blake, yell at the top of his lungs.I looked up and saw him approaching me with long strides.“There’s never been a time when I was sad, I’m a cheerful soul,” I joked. He eyed me with a deadly stare. “You know that’s not what I was talking about. I don’t want to judge you hastily, so I’d give you time to explain yourself. Why did you do what you did? Why did you feed Ciara to the wolves?” Blake inquired.I squinted my eyes a bit at the overpowering rays of the sun. “Technically speaking, we’re all wolves so—““Alden! Stop tryin
-LiamI growled at them, showing off my fangs, and with my claws, I began to tear the ones closest to me to shreds. Blood immediately flowed freely and fell to the floor from their cuts and bruises. At first, they tried not to fight back maybe because of my princely status, but soon, they snapped out of it and began to start fighting back, aiming to cut me up.As the fight intensified between us, the guards holding their crossbows started firing at my tail, the only place permissible to hurt a person with royal blood running through their veins. However, they were on the receiving end of their own attacks as I dodged every arrow aimed at me and continued fighting against them without pausing to rest for even a second, and eventually, I defeated them all.Nodding my head in satisfaction after seeing them all sprawled on the floor in extreme pains, I shifted back into my normal form and made my way through the gate of the dungeon.I could perceive Ciara’s scent as I ran through the pr
-LiamI paced around the room, trying to control my emotions, deeply in thought. I was still processing the fact that Ciara had been lying all along about having amnesia and the sudden twist where she was a fugitive on the run, but what kept me stuck was the fact that Alden had shocked everyone by betraying Ciara. My anger towards him grew with every passing second, until I was practically shaking with frustration and rage. All I wanted was to find him and punch his stupid face until there was nothing left, but I knew fully well that doing that wouldn’t solve anything and would probably only make things worse than they already were.Still, I vowed to have my revenge, but reckoned that I would be better off doing that after I had seen Ciara and seen how she was faring.“Where’s Ciara now?” I asked, heading towards the door.“Why? What are you going to do?” He retorted, obstructing my path.“I have to see her first. Only then would I determine how best to deal with that unfortunate Alde
-Liam My ego was badly wounded and I didn’t even know how I was ever going to face anyone again. A mere fly like Alden had succeeded in beating me to a pulp and humiliating me in front of over a hundred people, and I had even ended up sustaining some injuries as a result. “Greetings, Prince Liam,” the Pack’s doctor said, entering into my bedroom. “Greetings,” I said, looking away from him. He drew a stool to sit opposite me and began to take out the bandages he had wrapped around my injuries just the previous night. “You’ve healed up nicely,” he noted. “That’s not surprising for a prince, is it?” I retorted. He took out a medicated balm and began to apply it, massaging it gently into my skin. “No, but one would think that after what happened last night, you—“ “Don’t you dare complete that statement!” I ordered even before he could land because I already had an idea of what was coming. He was going to use the fact that Alden had won in the fight against me to say that si
-CiaraI tightened the apron around my waist neatly and peered out of the Royal kitchen. Once I was sure that there was no one in sight, I began to make my way to Lady Elodie’s quarters, holding a tray and disguised as one of the Cooks in the Royal kitchen.Everyone was busy with one thing or another due to the ball so it was easy to gain access into the kitchen. Also, the commotion that had been earlier caused by the brothers made all the servants who were not even involved in the whole ball event, gather at every corner, wagging their tongues and discussing about what they had witnessed or what they had heard from someone who had witnessed everything that had happened. As I walked, I minded my own business, greatly ignoring the desire to correct some servants I heard discussing on some facts which were either not true or had been twisted. However, I knew I couldn’t waste any of my precious time. For all I knew, Josiah could already be by the fountain waiting for me and also, the bal
-Ciara“Excuse me,” I said, stepping away from Liam and Blake, and without thinking it twice, I walked straight to where Alden and Blair were still dancing, lost in each other’s eyes and spilled the wine all over Blair’s dress.“Oops,” I said, acting like it had not been on purpose.“What did you do that for?” Blair’s face turned red with visible annoyance.“My apologies, little princess. I guess you’d have to run along to get that cleaned up, or the stain would never go away,” I said, a smirk playing around my lips.I watched her face go from red to pale, shrinking in fear. “You! I’ll get back at you!” She threatened, then awkwardly walked out of the hall, calling helplessly for her maids to follow immediately after her.“What did you do that for?” Alden eyed me, apparently unimpressed.I shrugged. “What do you mean? It was a mistake,” I said.“No one’s buying that story. I know you did it on purpose. What do you want from me?”“Good. Now, you’re asking the question I needed to hear.
- Ciara“Yeah. You don’t have to answer though… I just wanted to… I mean, it’s just that I have been seeing her around and I was just curious, not that I care if she’s here or not… I don’t mean I don’t care about her… I—“ I stopped speaking when I saw his smirk shift into a big smile and the next t
-Ciara“I didn’t push you, Ciara. It was your fault that you fell. We need to see each other. I must tell you something,” Alden’s voice resounded in my ears.My eyes sprung open to the dark room which was suddenly buzzing with eerie whispers. Lightning struck and thunder crashed, the curtains blowi
-CiaraLiam helped me get off the horse after we arrived at a beautiful lake. It was surrounded by trees and the scenery was perfect in every sense of the word. I loved the cool air and the sound of birds singing.“Wow,” I said, drawing near to the lake which had the sun’s image reflected on it.“D
- CiaraA knock came and the door opened, jolting me from my thoughts. A young servant girl entered the room, wheeling a suitcase, and bowed politely.“Greetings, Lady Ciara. I will be your personal maid from now on,” she said.Personal maid? I had a personal maid? An Omega like me?I stood up, con
